Lemons and Roses |
When M pruned the citrus trees on Friday, he cut a few branches with lemons still hanging on them. I picked up one or two of those branches and cut a couple roses to display on the mantel, along with my Easter candy.
Late yesterday evening, around 9:00 p.m., actually, there was a knock on the door and, as I wondered who it could be, a voice called out, "Bless, it's your neighbor". So, I opened the door and it was my neighbor from a couple of doors down (whose dogs bit me, last year!) with some Easter bread she had made! She apologized for the lateness of the hour, explaining she had just finished baking them:
Easter Bread from a Neighbor |
It is a cloudy day, today, and it must have rained, earlier, because the ground was wet when I woke up and opened the drapes. I am planning to take it easy, today, and just relax. Maybe practice the piano. Maybe read. Maybe sew or knit. There's cooked food in the fridge, so I don't need to cook unless I want to.
Today, I am grateful for:
- Kind friends and neighbors
- Gifts of Easter candy and bread
- A relaxed day
- A warm house in which to stay
- The garden in which to walk

How is your Sunday?
You have wonderful neighbors, and I know you are a wonderful neighbor yourself! Beautiful bread....I love your lemons and roses...and I have those little lamb chocolates...delicious....and too cute to take the foil off and eat! Andrea
ReplyDeleteThank you, Andrea. I do try to be a good neighbor. The bread was delicious (I froze the smaller loaf for later). The little lamb chocolates are so cute, aren't they?
DeleteI never saw chocolate Easter lambs before, they are cute and a lovely variation on the bunny theme, not like those odd toy characters that show up in chocolate form!
ReplyDeleteI've been in touch with a couple of friends by phone today and have also been in touch with some via e-mails to and fro. The internet and phone really help at this time. Whatever must it have been like during the Spanish Flu pandemic?
This is the first time I've seen chocolate Easter lambs, myself. I might have to sample one, tonight!
DeleteI'm glad you were able to connect with some of your friends through phone calls and emails. I think people were more used to not hearing that often from family and friends during the "good old days" when everyone depended on letters to keep in touch. I'm glad we have the modern technology that we have now!
Your roses look amazing. That bread looks delicious, too.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Stephenie. The roses are enjoying the mild temperature we've been having - too often, they start to bloom and there's a heatwave and they get desiccated while still on the bush! The bread was delicious. :)
DeleteOoh that Easter bread looks so delicious. Now I’m hungry! LOL
ReplyDeleteI also haven’t seen Easter lambs before. Is it milk chocolate?
The bread was very good! I had some for breakfast, some with my evening tea, and will probably have another slice (or two!) as a late night snack! :D
DeleteYes, the lambs are milk chocolate. :)
The bread looks absolutely delicious. What a lovely gift from your neighbour, as are the chocolate treats from M.
ReplyDeleteThe bread was lovely! I am afraid I ate about half of the bigger loaf! I froze the smaller one for another day. I am holding off on the chocolates! :D
DeleteI love the lemons and roses together. How nice to get Easter bread from your neighbor. My niece always bakes some for Easter, but not this year. Maybe next.
ReplyDeleteThank you; I suppose the roses would have been fine by themselves, but, I liked how the lemons looked on the branches and thought, why not include them, too? :)
DeleteI was very touched that my neighbor brought me the bread. Hopefully, your niece will be able to bake her special bread, next year. It'll be something to look forward to. Hope you had a good Easter, Live and Learn. May the week ahead be a good one, too.
The bread looks wonderful - how nice of your neighbour! I'm not sure the chocolate would have lasted that long in my house lol. I must admit that I have added chocolate to my weekly shopping essentials. It is a weakness of mine. I went out for a walk this morning but other than that I shall be inside - not that it's a lot different from the new 'normal' but I sometimes sit in the garden - as it is cold and wet and the temperature has dropped 30+ degrees from yesterday...brrr
ReplyDeleteThe bread was delicious! I froze the smaller loaf, but, ate most of the bigger loaf! LOL. I'm glad you added chocolates to your weekly shopping list! I'm sorry it is so cold and wet there, today. Sounds like the perfect day to stay indoors, read or knit or do some crafts. We just have to make the best of each day, don't we? That's what I tell myself. :)
DeleteWe had a very non-traditional Easter, but we remembered the essentials ... both religious and secular, so it was a good day, although the lack of a family gathering was strange and a bit sad- I am just glad all of us are well and managing to plod our way through these times-
ReplyDeleteWhat a pretty arrangement you made- I will try to curb my envy about your fresh citrus- we have masses of roses though- whatever I did (or more likely didn't do) to Paige's plants has resulted in the most prolific blooms ever- I go out every morning and gather them by the basket ... such yummy scents too-
You continue to have thoughtful friends and neighbors- now is definitely a time for everyone to be thankful for the small kindnesses- you have always been caring, and it is good to know you are being remembered while you can't be 'out and about'-
Please continue to take care- I keep telling myself that all this will eventually resolve itself and become a memory-
As always, fondest thoughts from here-
Barb
I'm glad you were able to do the essentials this Easter, Barb, and I know that at least one little girl had her chocolate Easter bunny and her mommy and grandma were there to watch her enjoy it. :)
DeleteI wish I could send you some of my lemons (I did that for another friend, earlier), but, I am not going to the post office, these days. In fact, I had planned to send a package to my daughter, but, I am unable to do that, either! But, I'm glad you have so many roses! Perhaps all the rain you've had helped!
I do have some lovely friends and neighbors, don't I? They are spoiling me and I'm afraid I'll get used to that very quickly! LOL. I will have to do something nice for them when all this is over. :)
Thank you, Barb. I hope you continue to take care of yourself and your family, too. Please know that I continue to keep you all in my prayers, especially Whitney.
Hope you have a blessed day.
Little pleasures, they do mean so much. How lovely of your neighbour, Bless.
ReplyDeleteEspecially at a time like this! I am blessed with some of the best neighbors one could have.
DeleteChocolate, that is what was missing from our Easter. That bread looks wonderful as well.
ReplyDeleteOops! Sorry you missed out on the chocolates, Susanne. The bread tasted as good as it looked! :)
DeleteYour roses look very nice with the lemon branches.
ReplyDeleteI cut a big bunch of daffodils from the yard and brought them in and they make me happy.
I, too, have never seen those chocolate lambs. They are the cutest little things. :)
That's so nice that your neighbor brought you the Easter bread. It was so thoughtful.
Take care
Thank you, Debra. Daffodils definitely say spring, don't they? I planted some, one year. But, they are grown as an annual, here, and have to be dug up and refrigerated over winter, which I didn't do. A few of them returned the following year, but, after that, they all just died.
DeleteThe little lambs are very cute, aren't they? Yes, it was very kind of my neighbor to bring me the bread. I think I will be making a few more jars of jam, this year, to give as gifts, later on. :)
Your mantle looks lovely with the chocolates lined up beside that gorgeous vase. Oh yes, and the roses and lemon branch are very pretty, but I noticed the vase first. I like to add structural elements to my flowers as well. I will add leaves or grasses to a bouquet. I like the addition of the lemons.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Susan. The vase is Japanese. I have two of them; different shapes, but, similar designs. They were very popular in the 1980s, I think, which is when my mother bought them for me. :)
