A New Sweater on Saturday

New Sweater

It was such a cloudy day, today!  I was expecting it to rain at any moment, but, it didn't rain.  But, it was the type of day where I wouldn't want to go anywhere even if I could!  I was very glad that I didn't have to go anywhere and could stay at home and just relax!

Today, I finished sewing together my new sweater.  I can't quite remember when I started on this sweater, sometime in November, I believe, because I took this photo on December 12, for the WPSH December link up:

Sweater when it was in progress
I took a break from knitting it for some time, and I have an awful suspicion that I knitted the second sleeve with a different size needle than the first sleeve, but, now, it is done!  And if one sleeve is a little bigger than the other, oh, well.  Afterwards, I put all the leftover yarn from the last couple of knitting projects into one bag and tidied my knitting needles.  Then, I sorted through the yarn stash.  I have enough yarn for three more sweaters!  There's the, even lighter blue yarn I bought to knit a sweater for my daughter, the purple yarn I bought to knit a cardigan for a friend, and a burgundy colored wool I bought to make myself a sweater.  Plus, several balls of novelty yarn I bought to knit scarves.  Maybe I'll make a scarf as my next knitting project.  I like to have something to knit while I watch news.

After I finished sewing up the sweater, I tidied the family room a bit - removed the sofa dust sheets and put them to wash while I covered the sofas with the other sheets, put away a load of laundry, and put away some items that were on the family room table.

For brunch, I made coconut flat bread, using whole wheat flour.  By substituting a packet of coconut sambol (grated coconut, mixed with finely minced onions, green chilies, chili powder, salt and lime juice) that I had in the freezer for regular grated coconut and adding a few fresh curry leaves finely sliced, I turned it into savory coconut flat bread:

Savory Coconut Flat Bread (Pol Roti)
I had them with some fish curry and another type of onion sambol called katta sambol, which is basically a mixture of chilies, onions, Maldive fish flakes (a type of dried fish used as a condiment in Sri Lankan cooking), salt, and a bit of lime (or lemon) juice.  I might have eaten two more of the coconut flat breads with my tea, in the evening.  Dinner was frozen potstickers (gyoza) that I cooked according to the instructions on the bag (basically, saute in oil and then, add water and boil until the potstickers are cooked and the water has been absorbed).  I drank my 8 cups of water, today, plus two cups of tea.

Today, I am grateful for:
- A new sweater
- Video chatting with my daughter
- Clean water to drink
- Working appliances
- Being alive

Today's joyful activity was finishing my sweater!

How was your Saturday?  What are your plans for Sunday?

  1. The sweater is lovely, Bless, both the colour and the pattern. I must start a new project myself. Lily will definitely be in need of some new sweaters by the autumn, as she is growing at an alarming rate. X

  2. I do like your new sweater ... lovely colour and pattern.

I've just received my food delivery so will be doing some cooking today. I also want to look through the spare bedding as a neighbour is asking for donations of unwanted sheets and duvet covers to make scrubs for the NHS. She also wants pillow cases to make bags for the NHS staff to put their dirty uniforms in ready for washing at home. I'm sure I have some I can let her have.

    1. Thank you, Eileen.

I'm glad you've received your food delivery. It's a blessing to be able to have food delivered, isn't it?

That's kind of you to go through your spare bedding to see what you can give your neighbor and very kind of her to sew the scrubs and the laundry bags.

Have a good day and enjoy your cooking!

  3. I love your new sweater, both the color and the design. Are you thinking about Christmas presents with the rest of your knitting projects?

We had potstickers for dinner last night, also. Great minds... :)

    1. Thank you, Live and Learn. Well, yes, that is exactly what I am thinking of - Christmas presents, although I wonder if the young ladies on my gift list are tired of receiving handknit scarves from Aunt Bless!

      Yes! Great minds! LOL!

  4. That is a gorgeous sweater and I love the colour. It is yet ANOTHER project in your cupboard that is done. Good for you. You are just belting out all of these unfinished start-ups. Where are you finding your motivation? I need to get me some of that.

Those savoury coconut flat breads look so yum. At the same time, they are home made and probably very nutritious. If you eat more of those, it might make it easier to drink those extra glasses of water or cups of tea. Just saying.

    1. Thank you, Susan. Ha, ha, yes, this might be the Year of The Finished Craft Projects! Or, not! LOL. We shall see! My secret motivation is...procrastination and a lack of motivation to do other things, like cleaning and paperwork! I'm being productive in other ways!

The savory flat breads are addictive! I snacked on one, late last night, and had one for breakfast, today! I don't know just how nutritious they are (probably not very!), but, I used whole wheat flour to try to bump it up a little. It's comfort food, as far as I am concerned. :)

  5. Your sweater is very pretty with a nice pattern on the front.

Your flat bread looks delicious. I make potstickers we get from Trader Joe's that we cook in the same way you described. They are a good thing to have in the freezer when the mood hits.

    1. Thank you, Debra.

I am so glad I gave into temptation and bought the bag of frozen pot stickers on what turned out to be one of my last grocery shopping trips! It was when I went to look for toilet paper for friend R, a week or so before we were asked to stay at home. I almost didn't buy them because I was going over my March grocery budget, but, as you said, they are a good thing to have in the freezer. :)

  6. Bless, I swear I am going to show up at your door one day begging for the delicious food that you describe and photograph!!
The sweater is a gorgeous colour and I'm sure you will get a lot of wear out of it.
Well the weather is not smiling on us today and we are glad of the wood furnace as it is damp and cold outside. We could bundle up and go out but it is actually raining a little and it is so much easier to stay home and stay warm! I might just decide to bake some date squares and make the kitchen cosy with the oven on.

    1. LOL, Bushlady, the welcome mat is always out for you, whenever you do show up! Just bring a bottle of your maple syrup with you, OK?

Thank you; I'm looking forward to wearing the new sweater. :)

Sounds like you have an ideal day for staying at home, where it is warm and dry, and baking something delicious! Enjoy the rest of your weekend, Bushlady, and stay safe!

    1. Thank you, Stephenie. Knitting relaxes me and it's something I can do while watching TV. :) Next up might be a pair of socks with the leftover yarn from the sweater! :)

  8. First up: what are potstickers? I've heard of the expression but have never known what they are. Secondly: your beautiful sweater!! And I love the colour.I am an autrocious knitter but I do love handknitted things. I also do think that knitting is an amazing skill, and one that I have always wished I could do.

    1. Potstickers are a type of dumpling - usually a circle of dough filled with a ground mixture of meat (usually, chicken or pork, sometimes, shrimp) and vegetables and the edges sealed to keep the filling in.

Thank you for your kind comments about the sweater. I am wearing it, today. :)

  9. I really like the color of your new sweater. Is it wool?

After this semester is over, I'm going to crochet something with sleeves. :)

    1. Thank you, Nil. No, the yarn is acrylic (Red Heart brand), but, I wore it, today, and it kept me warm. I don't think you'll have any problems with making something with sleeves, Nil. I really like how your crochet top looked.

Hope you have a good week, next week.
