Wednesday Groceries |
Today, I spent some time in the morning responding to blog comments and commenting on a couple of other blogs. Then, I practiced the piano for a little bit, emptied the kitchen trash, and turned around and it was 12:15 p.m., already, and time to leave for my podiatrist's appointment. My appointment was at 1:30 p.m., but I always like to leave a little earlier than necessary because I never know how congested the freeway might be. Traffic wasn't too heavy, today, and I got to the clinic in plenty of time, except they were closed for lunch and I had to wait!
While I was at the podiatrist's, I received a text from the pharmacy stating that another medication refill was ready for pick up (I've given up trying to coordinate the refills to be ready all at the same time). So, after my appointment, I drove straight to the pharmacy, picking up a hamburger on the way, since it was already 3:00 p.m., by then, and all I'd had was a cup of tea in the morning and a couple of saltine-type crackers while I waited for the podiatrist's office to open after lunch.
At the pharmacy, I picked up my refill and then, I went to the dollar store, next door and bought a salad mix ($1.49), a box of cereal ($1.99), a bottle of soy sauce ($.99), a box of pudding mix ($.99), two packets of chicken salad with crackers and one packet of tuna salad with crackers (@$.99). My total came to $8.49. The packets of chicken/tuna salad and crackers are for me to take with me when I go to various appointments, along with the bottle of water I usually take with me. I used to keep them in my office desk drawer when I was working, as part of my earthquake supplies, along with some granola bars.
After that, I went to the regular grocery store in the same mall to pick up some eggs, as I had finished the eggs I had bought earlier (in January, I believe). The eggs were $2.79/dozen if I bought one carton, but $1.49/dozen if I bought two cartons! So, I bought two cartons for $2.98! I don't eat a lot of eggs, normally, but, I guess I'll be eating more eggs than normal for the next few weeks! Maybe I'll ask friend R if she'd like some eggs!
My February grocery budget was $185.00 ($75 regular monthly budget + $10 carried over from January + $100 for prayer gathering related items).
Spent to date: $32.71 + $41.86 + $26.41 + $12.00 + $4.40 + 8.49 + $2.98 = $130.85
Balance remaining in the February grocery budget: $185 - $130.85 = $54.15
It was almost 5:00 p.m. by the time I came home! I put away the groceries, opened a few windows to air out the house, had a cup of tea, and rested on the family room sofa, watching news on TV. I had a crocheted blanket over my legs and Dancer decided he, too, wanted to be warm:
As snug as a bug in a rug? |
I didn't water the front garden because I was tired from grocery shopping, etc. Then, after dinner (leftovers: rice, chicken curry, dhal, the last of the green beans, pappadum), I practiced the piano (I might have memorized a fourth piece), did some paperwork, did a little cleaning in my bedroom (just a little bit), and video chatted with my daughter.
Today, I am grateful for:
- The podiatrist's appointment went well
- I had a safe drive there and back
- The pharmacy had another refill ready without any problems
- I was able to run a couple of errands
- Scented candles
Today's joyful activity was video chatting with my daughter.
Wednesday's To Do List:
- Doctor's appointment - DONE
- Continue to tidy my bedroom - DID SOME
- Water the front garden
- Practice the piano - DONE
- Paperwork/filing - STARTED
Thursday's To Do List:
- Practice the piano
- Piano lesson
- Water the front garden
- More paperwork
- Continue to tidy my bedroom
How was your Wednesday? What would you do with an extra dozen of eggs? What are your plans for Thursday?
I'd make some individual egg muffins and freeze them for future easy breakfasts. Either that or make a couple of quiches and freeze in portions.
ReplyDeleteIs memorising the piano pieces getting any easier? You're doing well to have memorised the ones you have even if you don't manage them all before the lesson. That was a challenging homework this time.
Good suggestions for the eggs. I might try making a quiche.
DeleteI am not sure if memorizing the piano pieces are getting easier or not, but, I think I need fewer pieces to memorize at a time! They are not difficult pieces, but, there's only so much my poor brain can absorb at one time! LOL. The only way I can memorize is through repetition, so, more practice!
First comment - Well done for being disciplined with your piano practice.
ReplyDeleteSecond comment - I'm intrigued by the two cartons labelled chicken salad & tuna salad. I've never seen anything like that in a British supermarket. What is inside the box? Is it fresh/vacuum packed/canned?
Thank you, Angela. I have been trying to practice at least 30 minutes, twice a day.
DeleteThe boxes with the tuna and chicken salads each contain a small can of already made tuna or chicken salad (can has a tab to pull open), a sealed foil packet of 5 or 6 small crackers, and a small plastic spoon with which to spread the salad on the crackers. Not at all zero waste, but, it is a convenient snack and while it is, of course, cheaper to make your own tuna or chicken salad and carry it along with some crackers (or make a sandwich), this is good to have on hand for an emergency. It's shelf stable, so, doesn't need refrigeration, unless you want to store any leftover tuna or chicken salad.
What is it they say? Pratice makes progress. I think you're going to get another sticker this week.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Live and Learn. I think I am making progress! I'll let you know if I get a sticker or not! :D
DeleteLove the picture of the kitty, all covered up with the blanket!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteBut look at the time you would have saved, if you didn't reply to all the comments, left on your blog.... >,-))))) And just commented on their blogs.... >,-))))

Thank you, Wisps of Words. Kitty does love to snuggle up to a blanket. :)
DeleteI think that, if someone takes the time to comment on my blog, then, it is only polite for me to respond. Not everyone who comments on my blog has a blog of their own, anyway, and if I don't respond to their comments, then, there is no "conversation" as such, is there?
I don't think I have EVER had too many eggs in my fridge, especially now with my diet. I have a 2 egg omelette every morning. Whenever I make a loaf of keto bread, I am using 6 eggs. When I make my moussaka later in the week, I will need 3 eggs for the bechamel sauce. Two dozen eggs doesn't usually last me a week, unless I am very careful.
ReplyDeleteYou mentioned to me yesterday that you have a weekly cleaning plan that seems to work out well for you. Would you like to share it with me. I like to know what schedule works well with others.
And does Dancer know how well he has it made?
I didn't like eggs as a child and, even now, I generally eat maybe two eggs a week, if at all! But, I do know of a few recipes that require quite a few eggs, so, maybe I will make some of those.
DeleteHere is the link to my original cleaning schedule, posted on April 1, 2019:
https://bless2cents.blogspot.com/2019/04/weekly-cleaning-schedule.html
I modified it just slightly, but, haven't posted that. I think the main modification I made was moving cleaning the bathrooms from Wednesday to Friday, because I found that I was too tired after vacuuming to clean the two bathrooms, as well. And, of course, running errands are often done on other days, especially if I am already out and about, but, that's how I make the schedule work for me. :)
Dancer still thinks that life would be better if he had unlimited access to tuna! LOL.
Dancer looks so sweet under your lovely crocheted blanket.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Stephenie. :)
DeleteYou are wise to pad out your time traveling to appointments. Too bad the place was still closed though. Dancer looks adorable!
ReplyDeleteI don't think we eat as many eggs as we should but we usually have egg salad sandwiches for lunch once a week and an omelet for supper another time, either with cheese or mushrooms. I also use them for baking but don't bake as often as I would like. If I am feeling energetic in the morning (rarely) I will make pancakes or boiled eggs for breakfast. If I were a lady of the manor my staff would serve up all kinds of exciting things in the morning, from kippers to scrambled eggs! 😄
Thank you, Bushlady. I hate driving while feeling pressed for time, worrying if I'll make it on time for an appointment. I'd rather go early and wait.
DeleteI had two eggs, today! One in the fried rice I made for lunch and the other was scrambled and eaten with toast for dinner. Ah, yes, it would be nice to have staff to serve up tempting breakfasts, wouldn't it? :)
I love the way that you write what you are grateful for, each day. Bless.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Ratnamurti. It's important to count our blessings, I think. :)
DeleteI hope you get a sticker! I need to practice the ukulele and the piano daily but lately I have been running out of day.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Anne. Yes! I got both a sticker and chocolate chip cookies! :D
DeleteYou were smart to get the 2nd dozen and I'm sure you will come up with ways to use them.
ReplyDeleteAnd reading the comments, it seems you already are.
Yes, I have started on the eggs, already! LOL. I think I might have some French toast for breakfast this weekend, and that will be my 3 eggs for the week! :D
DeleteAww, Dancer is just precious!!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Mandy. :)
