More Grocery Shopping on Sunday

Mourning Dove
There was a mourning dove looking for food in the back yard, today.  The picture was taken through the sliding glass door which is a bit dusty, but, I didn't want to open the door and startle the dove.  As it was, it had seen me standing there and was checking to see what I was doing.  It should have been looking in the other direction though:

Better Watch Out for the Kitty, Mourning Dove!
Do you see the white form in the second planting circle?  That's Snowball, one of the garden cats!  She had her back turned to the bird, so, I guess the bird was safe.  Nevertheless, it was a very brave bird!  It flew off shortly after I took this picture and Snowball turned to see what was going on.  But, she was taking a nap among the pruned rose bushes and not inclined to chase after birds, I guess.

Today, I washed my bed sheets, practiced the piano, and fitted a few more pieces in the jigsaw puzzle.

Later in the afternoon, I went to the pharmacy to pick up my medication.  The lower dosage flagged an automatic consultation with the pharmacist who checked with me to see if I knew why the dosage was changed.  I'm glad they check to make sure that the patient is aware of a change in the dosage.

After that, since the dollar store is right next to the pharmacy, I went in there and did some grocery shopping.  I bought bread, bananas, two bags of salad mix, 2 cans of apple pie filling, 6 cans of coconut milk, a 4-pack of lemon lime soda cans, and a box of microwave popcorn,  My total came to $14.26.

Then, I went to the regular grocery store, which is also in the same shopping mall, and bought half a gallon of milk ($2.19), 1 box of brown sugar ($.99), and a small container of chocolate chip cookies from the bakery section ($1.49).  My total came to $4.67.

I didn't take a picture of my groceries, though.

Today's grocery shopping came to ($14.26 + $4.67) = $18.93

January grocery budget = $75
Spent to date = $21.56 + $1.50 + $23.11+ $18.93 = $65.10
Balance left in the budget = $75 - $65.10 = $9.90

Well, obviously, I changed my mind about saving $20 from this month's grocery budget to buy tea!  But, that's okay.  I will wait until February and buy tea with February's budget!

Today, I am grateful for:
- Drama-free medication refills
- Pharmacist checking to make sure I was aware of the change in the dosage
- Flexibility in the grocery budget
- Being able to stock up
- Freshly washed bed sheets

Today's joyful activity was playing the piano (after I did the practicing, I played a few songs that I knew by ear, for fun).

Monday's To Do List:
- Call to schedule a car service
- Take the trash cans to the curb
- Water the front garden
- Do the dishes
- Put away the rest of the laundry

How was your Sunday?  What are your plans for Monday?

  1. Sounds like a productive, calm Sunday for you. Just right. Our Sunday was busy with relatives, but good. I did manage to get some laundry done before we start the work week.

    1. It was a very good day, Live and Learn; the right balance between relaxing and being productive. Spending time with relatives is also good. When my maternal grandmother was alive, my mother and I used to spend almost every Sunday, visiting her. Granny lived with one of my aunts (cousin P's mother). It was a long bus ride there (two buses, actually) and back, but it was what we did most Sundays. :)

    1. Thank you, Andrea. :) Yes, a very brave dove! There's another bird, a type of finch, I think, that is also brave and comes to eat the cat food. I've not been able to take a picture of it, but, I always tell it that it's going to end up being cat food if it's not careful! :D

Those regular car services are important, aren't they? They help to keep our cars running smoothly.

  4. Lucky bird!!!!!! -grin-

I did the sheets today too!!!!!! It is delightful to get into a freshly made bed. Makes you want to do so, when you make the bed. -smile-

Good thing to be flexible with your plans. Get tea next month, I mean.

    1. Yes, lucky bird! It seemed quite oblivious of the cat!

Dancer cat will agree with you about wanting to sleep in a freshly made bed - he's always there to try it out as soon as I put on the sheets! Often, while I'm trying to make the bed! LOL.

Yes, I still have one more box of tea bags in the cabinet, so I can wait a little longer to buy the tea. I just like to stock up before I get to that last box. :)

  5. I was amused to read that you also have to contend with dust on the windows if you want to take a photo without opening them. I love the mourning doves and their call reminds me of that of the collared doves in England. Such sweet gentle birds.

I have to say that I admire you for taking your time with jigsaw puzzles. I find them addictive and time disappears so fast with them, that I don't do them very often. Perhaps if I had a Dancer to lie on top of one I would be able to tear myself away after a reasonable time!

    1. I get very lazy about washing my windows, especially from the outside, since I have to climb a step ladder in order to do so. I should probably get one of those long handled squeegee things. Every so often, gardener M will clean the sliding glass door for me. :)

I'll spend about an hour or two a day, doing the jigsaw puzzle. After that, I feel guilty about "wasting time"! :D

  6. You are so excellent with you budgeting. I am always amazed at what you spend. I just discovered the Dollar Store near me. They have such excellent deals. Sunday was wonderful and relaxing, up in the mountains. Today I have been catching up on chores.

    1. Thank you, Stephenie. Of course, all bets are off when I go to the Asian markets, especially the Sri Lankan store! LOL. But, dollar stores are a good thing. My daughter does the majority of her grocery shopping at the dollar store (there's one across the street from her apartment); she budgets $100 per month for her groceries, but, she includes things like shampoo and dishwashing liquid in her grocery budget.

That's so nice that you can go up to the mountains for a day of relaxation and come back feeling refreshed to tackle the chores. :) Hope you have a lovely week ahead.
