January Roses

January Roses
One of my goals for this year is to bring in flowers and/or greenery from the garden on a more regular basis to enjoy inside the house.  Today, I picked some more roses from the garden and arranged them in a vase for the mantelpiece.  What a blessing to be able to pick roses in January!  Later this month, however, the rose bushes will be pruned so they can rest until spring.  This is not an ikebana inspired arrangement, but, roses, lemon leaves, and a couple of crocosmia leaves make a nice arrangement, I think.  The vase was a gift from my sister, several years ago.

I called the piano tuner this afternoon.  This is the same piano tuner the store from which I bought the piano sent out to tune it a few days after it was delivered, 21 years ago!  He's been tuning the piano for me since then and I've not had another tuner!  We scheduled the piano tuning for tomorrow evening.  Then, I dusted the piano, again, because, it was already dusty after being dusted on Monday.

In the evening, I called neighbor S to inform her that my piano book had arrived and confirmed the first lesson for tomorrow afternoon.

It has been a relatively quiet day.  I did some tidying and putting away, but, not as much of cleaning as I had planned on doing.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Roses in January
- Piano tuner was able to fit me in sooner than later
- How excited S was when I told her my book had arrived and I can start tomorrow
- Friend R calling to check on me
- Video chatting with my daughter

Today's joyful activity was arranging flowers.

Thursday's To Do List:
- Piano lesson
- Vacuum the bedrooms
- Tidy the kitchen
- Have the piano tuned

How was your Wednesday?  What are your plans for Thursday?

    1. Thank you, Andrea. I've seen the beautiful bouquets of flowers you always have. I think I need to plant more flowers, this year!

  2. Those roses are a welcome sight here in the cold, gray January days of my area. They are so pretty. Does Dancer ever bother your indoor plants? All of the cats I have ever had have chewed on, eaten any plant or arrangement that we have inside. Some have done it more than others but all take a chew. I usually end up putting the flowers in an extra bedroom behind closed doors, especially if some of the plants are toxic. But then we don't enjoy them. However, one of my friends says her cats never bother her plants and she has ones all around.

    1. Thank you, Live and Learn. Yes, Dancer does like to chew on the indoor plants and flowers! I've done what you've had to do - hide them from him or put them up high where he can't reach them. Lately, however, he seems disinterested in them - maybe he's learning in his old age!

    1. I live in southern California, so we get to garden year round.
But, these will probably be the last roses for awhile. The rose bushes will be pruned by the end of the month.

The first lesson went well, thank you. I was a nervous wreck, though!

  4. Lovely roses and I particularly like the Peace rose (I think that is what it is).
I wasn't going to clear the Christmas tree but this afternoon I really felt like putting most things away, so now all that remains is the tree and the lights on it, the creche on the mantel, and the angels on the dining room window and sill.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. I no longer remember the names of the roses I have left, but, I do remember having a couple of Peace rose bushes.

You had a very productive afternoon! I was thinking I would like to decorate the mantel for winter, but, without it looking too much like Christmas! Maybe I'll just group some candles and leave it at that.
