Tuesday

This morning, on my way to work, there were several cars waiting for the light to change at an intersection and, when it changed, we all took off driving along a rather deserted stretch of road, at more or less the same speed, which might or might not have been the posted speed limit!  No body noticed the motorcycle police officer watching from the other side of the street, until he turned on his lights, did a U-turn and drew up behind the first car.  It was that driver's unlucky day and I am sure the rest of us thanked our lucky stars!

I had a busy day at the office.  Lots of little fires that needed putting out!  It didn't help that I got two projects mixed up in my mind and, as a result, there was some confusion about a document!  But my supervisor pointed out the fact that I had got the projects mixed up and so, that was sorted out!  I told him this is why I think it is time for me to retire!  But he was kind and told me that anyone could have made that mistake, that that is why two pairs of eyes are better than one.  I am so glad I had rescheduled my doctor's appointment that was scheduled for this afternoon!  Otherwise, I would have been very stressed trying to do everything and still make it to the appointment on time!

I also spoke to my immediate supervisor and the supervisor above him to inform them about a slight change to my retirement plans.  I will talk about that, more, later, in another post.  But for now, I will be taking some vacation time off, first, before I retire, so the retirement date has been pushed back, a bit.

Today's lunch salad:

6/19 Salad
I promise I am not showing the same picture of the same salad!  It's mostly the same ingredients, though, except, I used iceberg lettuce, today.  I had finished the "artisan" lettuce I had bought earlier.  I put their stems in a container of water to see if they will root.  The last time I tried that, the whole thing just rotted!  In addition to the salad, I had a roast beef cold cuts sandwich and some mini crackers.  I didn't eat the yogurt I had packed for breakfast; I had it for dessert, after dinner, instead.

I received a bill from the hospital for one of the surgeon's services from when I had my catheter port removed, saying they haven't been able to resolve the bill with the insurance and for me to either pay the bill or contact my insurance.  So I called the insurance and they say that it wasn't that they rejected the claim, they asked the hospital to submit the bill through the clinic, because that is how it works, since I belong to an HMO (Health Maintenance Organization).  They tried to call the hospital billing department while I was on hold but I guess the billing department was closed.  So, the insurance person said they'll try to call tomorrow and call me back with the information.  I will follow up with another call, if I don't hear from them, tomorrow.  Again, the bill is not for a large amount and I will definitely pay it if it is my responsibility to pay, but if the insurance can take care of it for me, then, that's better!

Daughter's original flight was cancelled, but she managed to catch an earlier flight, which worked out better.  I picked her up from the airport, we had dinner, and then, as usual on her first day home, she fell asleep on the sofa!  I've remade her bed with fresh sheets, washed today's dishes, and will be going to bed, shortly, myself.  Just need to sort through one or two documents for tomorrow's retirement counseling session before I do that.

Hopefully, I can fall asleep early, tonight.  I need to wake up early, tomorrow morning!  I want to leave the house by 6:15 a.m. to get to the counseling session in good time.  They start at 7:30 a.m. and I want to be there a few minutes before they start.  It'll take me about 15 minutes to walk from the parking garage to the building where the counseling session will be held.

Today, I am grateful for:
- It wasn't my turn to get pulled over, today!
- My getting my projects mixed up didn't have any consequences.
- My supervisors were agreeable to my change of plans.
- My daughter was able to get an earlier flight home.
- The insurance company will work with me to get the hospital bill sorted out.

How was your Tuesday?  Have there been occasions when you've thanked your lucky stars that it wasn't your day to be pulled over by a traffic officer?

  1. I'm so relieved you didn't get pulled over Bless. An unpleasant surprise for that driver though. I have (so far) only ever been pulled over once, just to inform me I had a brake light out. The embarrassing thing was that they automatically breathalyse anyone pulled over, so there I was, in my uniform at 10pm being breathalysed by the side of the main road!
It must be lovely to have your daughter home again. Do you have any plans? X

    1. I've been pulled over a couple of times. The first time was when I was driving my car through a neighboring city; I was pulled over and asked if I owned my car! I said yes. I was then told I could proceed, so I did! I don't know why I was pulled over, but that city is predominantly white and maybe I didn't fit the profile of someone who would own that type of car?

The second time, unfortunately, was because I was speeding! I was so chagrined!

Well, daughter went with me to the retirement counseling session this morning, and afterwards, we went out to lunch. We were planning to go shoe shopping, this evening, but I was too tired. We will do that, tomorrow. She's working from home, tomorrow and Friday, but the evenings are free.

  2. I hear it's not good to be the first in a line of cars or the last. Those are the ones that get pulled over. Sounds like you were in the right place yesterday. Thank goodness.

    1. Yes, I guess they are easier to detect and pull over. I am glad I didn't get pulled over, although, I felt sorry for the guy who did!

  3. On the interstate I try to be the car in the middle. Just hedging my bets because I may or may not drive the posted speed limit!

    1. Sounds like a good thing to do, Anne. I have also heard that, on the freeway, it is better to drive on the lane that is most to the right (the "slow" lane) as highway patrol, etc., generally look for speeding cars on the left-most lane (the "fast" lane), first.

  4. I don't see a huge problem with people being moderately over the speed limit, if they are all driving sensibly and it is a good road. What I would like to see the police sort out is the idiots who cannot bear to be behind another car and tailgate all the time trying to pass, even though the driver in front is going at the speed limit or just over. The other week one of these hoppers was racing towards us past a stream of cars and DH had to pull off onto the shoulder to avoid a head-on collision! That's my rant for the day.

I'm with the family in the big city for a few days and we will be celebrating granddaughter's 12th birthday. I've been "earning my keep"😊 by doing a little weeding, which I enjoy because there are no mosquitoes and black flies like at home!
DH is on a trip and will join us on his return.

  5. I never know why some people are in such a hurry to get somewhere that they put everyone else on the road in danger!

Happy birthday to your granddaughter! I remember you mentioning her when she was just a toddler! How soon they grow! I'm sure she's enjoying having you there for a few days and glad your husband will be able to be with you when he returns from his trip.
