In the afternoon, daughter and I went shopping again! She needed more leggings, some black pants, and a new pair of sneakers. She also bought a green t-shirt and some lilac colored fabric to make costumes to wear to the Anime Expo, next month. While we were shopping for her stuff, I was able to buy myself two new pairs of black pants, as well; Danskin straight-leg pants, on sale for $9.00 a pair. They are considered "active wear", but I think they'll be well suited for "casual wear", as well. I suppose we can say that I am getting my retirement wardrobe ready! I also bought more yarn to knit us more sweaters! A bright blue for myself and a mint green for daughter.
Four in One Cake |
We bought this cake that is one-quarter chocolate cake, one quarter German chocolate cake, one quarter carrot cake and one quarter red velvet cake! We sampled a small slice of each type with our tea! Daughter liked the German chocolate cake, the best, followed by the other chocolate cake (she doesn't like cream cheese frosting, so found the carrot cake and red velvet cake to be a bit dry after she removed the frosting). The rest of the cake will be frozen and kept for another occasion.
Dinner: Baked Chicken, Baked Potato Wedges, Salad |
Daughter made her potato wedges for dinner, and doctored up two of the chicken breast halves I had cooked and frozen, earlier (she coated them with a glaze made of plum sauce, soy sauce, sesame oil and ground black pepper and baked them again) and made a salad with lettuce, cucumber, carrot, peaches and strawberries:
Salad |
She'll take some of the leftovers with her when she leaves, tomorrow, so she won't have to cook dinner and there'll be something for her to take for lunch, on Monday.
Today, I am grateful for:
- Spending the day in daughter's company
- More yarn for knitting!
- Daughter making dinner
- A fun shopping trip
- Cake for tea!
How was your Saturday? What have you planned for Sunday?
How does your daughter carry the leftovers on the plane?
ReplyDeleteShe just takes it in her carry on luggage, as that's all she ever takes, no checked luggage. We pack them in containers or baggies. She is able to take any food that doesn't have liquid (so nothing with gravy, unless it is frozen solid) and, we found out that things like peanut butter, even in an unopened, sealed jar, is considered "liquid". But she's had no problem with taking cooked food, fresh produce, bread and cake, etc.
DeleteI love the 4in1 cake. What a brilliant idea. My Saturday was brilliant but tiring. Sunday as busy as ever. But sunshine all the way!
ReplyDeleteYes, I think I'll be buying more of this type of cake if I need to take one to a function and I don't have the time to bake. Glad you had a sunny weekend, even if busy and tiring. Hope you have a good week ahead.
DeleteOh my goodness! That dinner does look good. I think I must be getting close to supper time because I would like to devour that salad. Ha,ha. That cake IS a fantastic idea. In the past, I have been able to buy cheesecakes like that in the frozen food section (seven good slices I believe, all of them different) Not everyone loves cheesecake, so this is a wonderful alternative.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Susan. The salad is almost gone! Daughter took half of what was left and I have the other half set aside to take for my lunch, tomorrow! They had those variety cheesecakes, too - larger 12 slice ones and smaller 6 slice ones! It's a good thing I don't go to this particular store all that often!
DeleteIt's nice to shop with a daughter, isn't it? I don't get the opportunity all that often but it's lovely when we do. We usually treat ourselves to lunch too. I love cake (unfortunately for my waistline). Such a good idea to but it in quarters.
ReplyDeleteMy daughter was laughing at me (in a good way) for waiting until she comes home to go shopping! But, it is more fun to shop with her than anyone else. Yes, the variety cake is a good idea, isn't it? They had two options of variety cakes; we chose this one because of all the chocolate cake! :)
