Spiritual: The goal is to live a spiritually meaningful life.
- Continue with daily prayers and gratitude; focus on being positive - On-going
- Take time for meditation - my friend and I have decided that we will attend the Friday night meditation sessions at the temple! - Attended 3 of the 4 Fridays, both with and without my friend. The one time I didn't go was because I felt too tired.
- Cultivate non-attachment - continue with the attempt to declutter; the goal is 100 items in May; also, schedule a pick up for the items decluttered and set aside for donations, so far - I didn't achieve this goal. However, I did practice non-attachment and let go of some smocked items my aunt had sewn that I had held on to for 45 years! I was able to give them away to her three daughters to share among themselves. I figured the items would have a greater sentimental value to them.
- Attend ceremony at the temple to celebrate Vesak; send a donation to the other temple - I didn't attend the main ceremony, again, because I felt tired. Instead, I made donations to the temple.
- Attend the monthly rosary prayer gathering - Accomplished; gave one of my cousins a ride there and back, as well.
Environment: The goal is a clean, tidy, uncluttered house and a well-maintained garden.
House:
- Focus on decluttering and maintaining cleaned areas - Work in progress! I am not good about maintaining, especially cleared horizontal surfaces! A cleared table or counter just seems to invite things being dumped on them and left!
- Deep clean the family room, my bedroom, and the spare room (yes, this is a lofty goal, but I am hoping that writing it down will help me to at least get started) - Um, I deep cleaned the laundry area, instead!
Garden:
- Deep clean the family room, my bedroom, and the spare room (yes, this is a lofty goal, but I am hoping that writing it down will help me to at least get started) - Um, I deep cleaned the laundry area, instead!
Garden:
- Maintain (water 2x per week; weed) - Accomplished for the most part, although, some weeks, watering was done only once for the week.
- Plant some flowers and vegetables - I planted some flower seeds that didn't germinate. Didn't plant any vegetables.
Daughter: The goal is to continue to have a close relationship with her (without being over-protective!)
- Daily texts, phone calls, emails, and video chatting - Accomplished.
- Look forward to her visit at the end of the month (Memorial Day weekend) - We enjoyed a lovely weekend, spending time together, although she got to meet up with some of her friends, as well.
Family & Friends: The goal is to keep in touch with various family members and friends.
- Call, email, wish people on their birthdays, etc. - Done.
- Will be seeing several members of the family and friends at the monthly prayer gathering (hopefully) - Accomplished.
- Weekly calls with neighbor T/have coffee with her one day - Accomplished the weekly calls, but not the coffee date.
- Get together with friend R for lunch - We talked about going out to lunch to celebrate Mother's Day, but neither felt quite up to it on the actual day!
- Maybe visit with cousin who is visiting from Australia (if our schedules allow it) - Met with her and had dinner with her (and other family members) a couple of evenings, back to back.
- Maybe visit with niece who is visiting from New York (again, if our schedules allow it) - Visited with her and her baby son, one evening.
In addition, I spent one Friday going sari shopping with one of my cousins and her daughter and I treated them to lunch.
Community: The goal is to become more involved in my community.
- Continue to participate in the blogging community - On-going.
Career: The goal is to continue to work while planning for retirement.
- Continue to do my assignments in a timely manner - On-going
- Meet with supervisor to go over assignments and establish priorities - Accomplished
- Attend the retirement seminar (scheduled for 5/3) - Attended the seminar and received much information. Scheduled the final counseling session for June (to fill out and hand in the retirement paperwork).
Finances: The goal is financial security.
- Continue budgeting and spending mindfully, with purpose - On-going; I did go over one or two budget categories, but savings in other categories more than made up for it.
Health & Well Being: The goal is good health.
- Attend the appointments with my various medical doctors - 1 scheduled for May (with oncologist for a routine check up) - Accomplished; she diagnosed an iron deficiency and told me to take supplements for it; she also put in a request for authorization for several additional procedures (bone density scan, mammogram, colonoscopy).
- Do the required blood tests prior to the appointment - DONE
- Continue to monitor blood pressure, sugar levels, and weight - On-going
- Continue to focus on a healthier diet, drinking enough water (8x 8oz), exercising regularly (walk for 30 minutes during the work week), and getting sufficient sleep - Struggling on all fronts! Especially the exercising and getting enough sleep!
- Focus on accomplishments and staying positive - Work in progress!
Time Management: The goal is having enough time to do all what I want to do!
- Procrastinate less - Didn't get around to it!
- Implement routines and schedules - Work in progress!
Leisure/Crafts/Hobbies/Me-Time: The goal is to relax doing something I enjoy doing for the pleasure of it.
- Set aside 30 minutes a day to do something relaxing, such as readingbooks blogs, or doing a craft - I read more blogs than books, this month! Blogs are like auto biographies in the making, don't you think? Or preludes to memoirs! I also crocheted a baby blanket and started knitting a sweater.
So, that is my goals update for May. I was right - I didn't accomplish as many goals as I would have liked. Much room for improvement in several areas, I feel, but that's the nice thing about goals - they are something to strive for!

I like the thought that a blog is a prelude to a memoir. It is a nice way of looking at it. I think we all do what we can, keep doing what we need to and like you put more stuff on a cleared horizontal surface!
ReplyDeleteYes, you are right - we all do what we can and need to and dump stuff where we shouldn't! LOL.
DeleteHa,ha Procrastinate less--"Didn't get around to it." *snort*
ReplyDeleteYou're too funny.
No I didn't make a list of goals for May. There must have been a lot going on in my life back at the beginning of the month. I will have to go back through my blog to see what it was. In any event, I DO think you accomplished much. It was a great success.
Glad you liked my assessment of the procrastination segment, Susan. :D
DeleteYes, I think you had a lot going on in May. You accomplished a lot, too, so it worked out well for you. Hope June will be a good month for us both!
