Today, I went to the office and had a fairly productive day, including attending a meeting, where one of the topics discussed was the Zanja Madre (or Mother Ditch), which was the first aqueduct, built within one month of establishing the City of Los Angeles in 1781, to bring water to the city.
Lunch was leftover fried rice from last night's dinner and pineapple. After my lunch (eaten at my desk), I went for my walk.
Today's walk was one of the old routes - past the former cathedral, up the block, past the community garden, and back. Not a long walk, but, today, I was all achy and walking was slow and painful. But I walked for 40 minutes (the distance was the same but my pace was slower). As a result, I was slightly late for the afternoon meeting (that I had forgotten we were having!) Oops! It wasn't a big deal, though (me being a little late), especially since the meeting dragged on for 30 minutes longer than it was supposed to last!
These bicycle racks are starting to appear in more and more places, downtown:

The pharmacy texted that one of my medication refills was ready for pick up, so, I went there, directly, after work. There was a long line of people waiting to pick up their medications, today. I picked up a hamburger on my way home from the pharmacy as I was hungry (and had been wanting a hamburger for several days). It was past 7:00 p.m. when I came home and it was too dark to put water to the front garden. I will have to get up a little earlier, tomorrow morning, and water the garden before I go to work.
Today, I am grateful for:
- Another sunny and pleasant day
- Being able to go for a walk
- Medication refills without drama!
- Being able to relax, knowing housework can wait another day or two
- Video chatting with my daughter
- Go to the office - DONE
- Bring the trash cans in - DONE
- Pharmacy - DONE
- Water the front garden
- Put away the laundry - DONE
- VacuumWednesday's To Do List:
- Water the front garden
- Go to the office
Tomorrow will not be an easy day for me, so I will just keep the to do list short, because I know I will not get much done, anyway.
How was your Tuesday?
I'm sorry you're sore!
ReplyDeleteI love those bikes, my Daughter and I rented them when we were in Chattanooga last summer and were able to bike downtown, it was very nice.
I hope you're not sore today, Bless. Have a great day!
Thanks, Nathalie. The soreness is due to the side effects of the cancer medication I take (Anastrozole - bone ache, joint pain, etc.). But, most days, it's manageable. Other days, it hurts more. I have been told to take a Tylenol or other pain medication, but I don't like to, unless it gets really bad. It was much better, today. :)
DeleteI haven't seen too many people using those bikes, but, I am glad that they are available.
Oh dear, 40 minutes is a long time to walk when you are achy and in some pain. I think you may need to be gentler with yourself! I chuckle at you being late for a meeting which dragged on anyway. Meetings depend on the chairman, some people have more knack of keeping control than others. I used to attend local council meetings and some were quite entertaining because certain councilors could be relied on to get on their pet hobby horse and flog it for all it was worth. Then we got a new mayor who managed to keep them in line!
ReplyDeleteI just went along one of the routes I've taken before, Bushlady, which normally takes 30 minutes. I just walked slowly, so it took longer. I didn't want to cut down on the distance.
DeleteIt was one of those "working meetings" where we were going through a draft document, trying to iron out the wording and format, etc. A dozen or so people around the table, almost each one having something to say, and then, one of the supervisors came by with something completely off topic and we ran out of time to finish all the items on the agenda! LOL! My daughter has been known to take control of the meetings at her work place, taking it upon herself to write down things on the white board to help keep track of things under discussion so people don't go off topic, too much!
It looks lovely, bright and sunny. The bicycles here would be covered in snow lol.
ReplyDeleteIt is sunny and warm, Sharon; in the upper 70s/low 80s and well above average.
DeleteI am in admiration of you still going out for walks during your work break, even while in some discomfort. My "exercise" is shoveling in the winter and gardening in the good weather.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Susan. As I told one of my friends, I don't want to give in to the aches and pains and make that an excuse for not walking. Shoveling snow and gardening (especially when it involves moving wheel barrow after wheel barrow of pebbles!) is excellent exercise!
Delete"first aqueduct, built within one month of establishing the City of Los Angeles in 1781, to bring water to the city" - didn't realize that LA was that old. I continue to learn the history of the United States.
ReplyDeleteGlad you were able to walk. I always tell myself "it is not a race" so time is not important.
Yes, in some countries that is not very old, but, for the US, that is old, isn't it? This area of California was claimed by Spain in 1542, the city was officially founded in 1781 by the Spanish governor at the time, became part of Mexico in 1821, was purchased (along with the rest of California) by the US in 1848, and was incorporated as a municipality in 1850, a few months before California became a state. :)
