Wednesday's Recap

Black Two Piece

Eek!  I really need to clean the mirror!  Lots of spots and smudges on it!   But this is the outfit I chose to wear to the office, today.  A black skirt with a row of buttons down the front, and a black cross-over blouse with 3/4 length sleeves with brown/beige patterned collar and cuffs.  I wore it with a black cardigan (not pictured) for warmth.  I tried on a brown jacket I had, which my aunt had given me, but it was too big.  The black skirt is a definite keeper as it can be worn with any blouse.  I used to wear the top with either this skirt, black pants, or brown pants, but both pairs of pants are too big, now (although I still have them in the closet).  The top, too, fits, so I will continue to keep and wear it.  So far, I have put aside two blouses and the brown jacket into the donations bag.

Today, I went to the office and had a fairly productive day.  Came home and haven't done anything much (except clean the mirror!)  One of my aunts and a friend called to check on me, another friend called to let me know when the next monthly prayer gathering will be and that she'll be hosting it, and my daughter called to say she arrived in Berkeley from her trip to Atlanta.

Yesterday, I cooked some rice casserole (at least, that's what I call it): leftover cooked rice, mixed with a can of cream of celery soup and cut up sausages, and baked.  It had the consistency of risotto and was quite flavorful.  I took half of it to my cousin and her daughter across the street, had some for my dinner, and packed up the leftovers to take to the office for lunch.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Daughter had a safe flight back from Atlanta
- The toothache is much better (only needed 1 dose of Tylenol all day!)
- A safe commute to the office and back
- Family and friends calling to check on me
- A relaxed evening

Tomorrow is going to be a fairly long day at the office because I have to attend an evening meeting for a project I am working on.  It is scheduled to go on till 7:00 p.m. and I won't get home until almost 8:00 p.m. I am definitely not planning to do anything much after I come home!

How was your Wednesday?  Did you have a good day?

  1. My bedroom mirror is permanently covered in little black specks of mascara because I have to stand that close to it to see what I'm doing.

Glad to hear the toothache seems to be under control, I hope it stays that way.

Used to hate after hours meetings at school, I'd much rather give up my lunch hour and leave on time. The headteacher wasn't keen on them either so she always wrapped them up as quickly as possible and to be fair our 'after hours' would start at 3.30pm, 4pm at the latest so I can't really complain.

Hope your meeting doesn't drag on and you get home on time. xx

    1. You sound like my daughter! She really can't see when she takes her glasses off and she needs them off to do her eyes. I use a small magnifying mirror when I do my eyes. :)

I don't like after hours functions, myself, but the occasional evening meeting is part of the job and I do get paid overtime for them. It used to be worse because they used to be scheduled from 6 to 8 p.m. We've since changed them from 5 to 7 p.m. A little bit better. So, I am not complaining. Plus, someone always brings some refreshments... ;)

  2. When I clean out my closet, I try on pieces with different things than I normally wear together. Occasionally, I find a really good combo that I had never thought of and it feels like a I just got a new outfit. Have you discovered anything like that yet?

    1. Not yet, but the other day, a new combination did occur to me: my one remaining formal, long dress has a separate over-blouse and I thought I might be able to wear it as a regular blouse with a pair of pants or a skirt. The over blouse is a solid plum color, very plain, in a double knit fabric. I haven't tried it out, yet, though, and don't know if the blouse even fits me anymore. Something to try this weekend, perhaps.

Once, several years ago, I made a list of every item I had in my closet and listed all the other items it might be worn with - that was a fun exercise and I came up with some interesting combinations. But, more recently, I've just tended to keep to the same tried and true combinations.

  3. I am so glad your toothache is better. That is so good to hear.

I have made a casserole similar to the one you make and it is comfort food for us. Sometimes that is exactly what we need after a long day. :)

    1. Thanks, Debbie. Life is much better when the tooth doesn't hurt and the jaw doesn't ache! The rice casserole was easy to eat as it was soft! I've made a version of this rice casserole with ground beef, too, using cream of mushroom soup or chicken and cream of chicken. I add some vegetables like bell pepper, etc., and it becomes an easy one dish meal.

  4. Just catching up. I don't know how you manage to keep up your blog so faithfully! I do hope that you will soon be able to get the tooth problem resolved. I like your outfits, and I am sure you come over as a very elegant lady. I think if something doesn't fit but you absolutely love it, then it is worth hanging onto for a while longer and perhaps altering it one day if your weight doesn't change. It's always a challenge, isn't it, to deal with one's wardrobe? I still remember a lovely pleated skirt I donated and I'm sure it would have fitted me again one day! A few years ago I put certain items together and photographed them flat on the bed to remind me of possibilities of different outfits. Haven't done that for a while, and I think some of those clothes have gone since.

    1. The blog has replaced my daily journal, Bushlady; for years, I used to write faithfully in my journal. It was a habit I started in high school. So, almost every day, I feel the need to write a blog post! :)

Yes, I am hopeful that I will get the medical clearance next week and I can get my teeth attended to.

I am trying to tell myself that I should keep only the items that fit well and maybe just a handful of garments that I can easily alter (replacing elastics in the waistband, as opposed to unpicking and taking in a jacket!) I like the idea of taking pictures of possible combinations. That might be the next step - after I weed through what I have!

How is the mosquito situation? All under control?

    2. House is more or less free but I am super careful and don't go in and out much. Mosquitoes and blackflies are frustrated by this and wait for me with their bibs on ready to dine! 🍷

  5. Ha, ha! I can just imagine the scene! Feeding frenzy at the Bushlady Gardens! "We'll have a serving of maple syrup to go with it, please!"
