Tired on Wednesday

I couldn't fall asleep last night until past 4:00 a.m.  So, I found it practically impossible to wake up when the alarms went off at 7:00 and 7:30 a.m.  I turned one alarm off and kept hitting the snooze button on the other until past 8:00 a.m.  By the time I got up, showered, had a cup of coffee, made sandwiches for my lunch, etc., it was past 9:00 a.m.!  I was so tempted to call my supervisor and ask her if I could work from home, today.  But, instead, I called her and left a message saying I was just leaving the house and forced myself to go to the office.  I've taken to calling my supervisor before leaving the house, so that she knows to expect me in the next hour or so.

I had a productive day at the office and the drive home wasn't too bad, traffic wise.  I was hungry when I got home, so, instead of having a cup of tea or coffee, I decided to heat up some of the food my friend had given me and had my dinner early.  One of my aunts called while I was eating and we chatted for a while.  I think she called mostly to find out why I didn't come to the birthday dinner on Saturday, but I didn't go into details about it.  It's one thing to grumble here, on my blog, to readers who don't know me and my family personally for the most part; it's quite another thing to say anything to family members who will have a field day with it!

Once I finished dinner, I did a load of laundry and hung up the clothes to dry.  Looks like I will have to buy myself a new washer one of these days.  The spin cycle doesn't work too well and the clothes are sopping wet when I take them out and I need to wring them out by hand!  But, even so, some of the heavier items, like sweat pants, etc., still drip on the floors - I put old towels under them to catch the drips so my wooden floors won't get water marks, but, it might be time for a new washer, along with a new dryer.  I've had my current washer and dryer since before my daughter was born!

I also cooked the shrimp and chicken I bought, yesterday.  I just sauted the shrimp with some soy and teriyaki sauce, etc.  I cut some of the chicken thigh meat into small pieces and stir-fried them.  Then I made a curry with the rest of the chicken.  I still have some of the fish curry I cooked over the weekend, too - might need to freeze that.   The cooking tired me so I just video chatted with my daughter and didn't try to clear the dining table, etc.

I am behind with reading and commenting on blogs.  I don't have as much time during the day as I used to have, with going to the office, etc.  Sometimes, I read, but don't comment as I am at the office.  I have been able to comment as Anonymous on one or two blogs during my lunch break at the office, but, not all.  So I apologize if I haven't commented on your blogs in awhile.  I promise I'll catch up, over the weekend.

How was your Wednesday?  What did you do?

  1. I'd say that you got your money's worth out of that washer and dryer. I never like spending money on new appliances, but sometimes it's a necessary thing.

    1. Yes, I believe I got good use of my old appliances and it's time to get replacements. Just need to go shopping. I hate to go shopping!

  2. I do hope you manage to sleep better tonight Bless. I am amazed at how long your washing machine has lasted. Unfortunately, I don't imagine a new one will last anywhere near as long. X

    1. My sleep patterns are really messed up, Jules. It was past 3:30 a.m. when I slept last night. Well, better than 4:30 a.m., I suppose! No, new appliances don't last as long, I think.

  3. It is smart of you to not say too much on the phone. I wish I could hold my tongue more! Good luck with your washer. It must be so frustrating to not have the clothes spin, plus they would take up more dryer time. It is hard appliance shopping now because everything is so energy-efficient they don't clean as well as the good old washers! Andrea

    1. Sometimes, it is a case of "least said, soonest mended". I just need to go to the store and pick out what I want, but I get overwhelmed by the arrangements - to have the old machines picked up, new ones delivered and installed, etc.

  4. So proud you were able to go in to work late.. A very good idea, to call supervisor , so she is aware of when you should arrive [we never know, when something can happen].
Proud you got the food cooked..That is tiring. The curry sounds so good.
I had one of those sleepless nights too [asthma trying to pop in.eeeh].. I didn't do much on Wed. Washed some clothes.

I think you are in need of a new washer/dryer.. You have had good service with them. However, I really think the appliances we bought back then, lasted longer and were better quality than what we get now.
Hope you have a wonderful day.

    1. Thanks, Judy. Being able to go in late to the office is a blessing, right now. I make up the time by working from home in the evening and so forth.

Sorry to hear your asthma kept you awake. Hope you slept better, last night and are doing OK, today. Take care.

  5. "The red gingham apron my mother sewed for me - when I tie it on to cook, etc., it feels like a hug from her" - agree 100% - I have a couple of my mum's aprons. Aprons were such a part of her life.

You got an awful lot done on 4 hours sleep. Have you spoke to your daughter about this? It doesn't seem good for your recovery to be up almost the entire night. I go to sleep o.k. but wake up several times. My doctor said "go to bed and get up at the same time no matter what occurred" - I am actually envious of those who simply go to bed fall asleep and wake next morning. I do sympathize with you.

Oh yes my dear, get yourself a new washing machine and dryer. It is surely time. You will find them much more cost effective and a joy to use.

Hope you slept better last night.

Wednesday it rained almost the entire day breaking a record. We are no longer in a drought situation. As usual we went to the midweek Advent light dinner and service (pizza, salad and cake).

    Hugs.

    1. Sandy, I used to get by on about 5 hours of sleep a night for years. But that was back when I was well and not recovering from treatments. I am just trying to put in a full day's work at home after I get home from work! That's why I need to work on my schedule. I find it hard to get home at 6:45 p.m. and do all what I have to and want to do before 10:45 p.m., so I could fall asleep by 11:00 p.m. (which is what I'd need to do in order to get 8 hrs. of sleep and wake up at 7:00 a.m.) Never could manage it and still struggle with it.

Talking to daughter about it doesn't help - she's a night owl, too, often staying up till the wee hours of the morning, herself! I've spoken with my doctor and she has made some suggestions, but, as I said, hard for me to implement!

Glad you got enough rain to solve the drought situation. That advent service and dinner sounds like such a nice thing. I'm so glad you are able to participate in it.

  6. You went into the office and that showed real character. Sending hugs. re commenting - I always love to hear from you, but don't worry about me. I just love reading your blog. Sending more hugs. Also, don't expect a new washer to last as long - they are not built like they used to be - quite literally. I miss the first washer I had. It went on and on and was awesome for years. Now they only seem to last five minutes. Take care of yourself. Sending a stack of hugs x

    1. Thank you, Lyssa. I really don't know how much it costs to do laundry in a laundromat, but, assuming it is $1 per load, and I do 2-3 loads of laundry per week, then, to wash them would cost from $104 to $156 per year. If I can get a new washer for approx. $300, then, it would have paid for itself in approx. 2-3 years, depending on how many loads I do per week plus there's the convenience factor - that has to count for something, too, right? So, if it lasts me 3 years, then, it would be worth it! If it lasts longer than that, then, it is a bonus! :D

    1. (((HUGS))) Debbie. I keep thinking, if we can do as much as we do on as little sleep as we tend to get, imagine what we can do on a full night of sleep! :D Except, I think, I just feel groggy when I get a lot of sleep! Having said that, I slept for 11 hours, last night/this morning (I had taken the day off from work and didn't have to worry about getting up early). I just need to change that from going to bed earlier so I can wake up earlier and still get 7-8 hours of sleep! Good luck to both of us!

    1. It really is, Lady Ella. But, if I don't have anything that can be heated up, my go to quick meal is scrambled egg and toast! :)
