Windy Monday

Spring Flowers

My arm feels much better, today.  Almost back to normal.  But I still rested and took it easy, today.  I had been up until 4:30 a.m., so I couldn't wake up when my alarm went off at 9:30 a.m. and slept till 10:30 a.m., instead.  It didn't matter, though, because I have the day off from work (due to Cesar Chavez Day; daughter's work place will observe it on Friday).

I spent a quiet morning.  Then, in the afternoon, I called my next-door neighbor and took her several pieces of the cake I baked last night.  She invited me in to have a cup of coffee and we sat and visited for about half an hour over a cup of coffee.  I was happy to see that she had the sunflower wreath I had given her last year for her birthday, on her front door.  When I was leaving, she said she really enjoyed the visit and told me we needed to do it more often.  Later in the evening, she called me again, to say she enjoyed the cake and the visit.  I shall try to visit her, again, next week.

It was a sunny but windy day, today.  Some oranges had fallen from the tree, so I picked them up and picked a few more off the tree, as well.  Then, I picked a few African daisies and some grass seeds from the garden to bring in (#10 on my spring joy list).

I had a tuna salad sandwich for lunch and some crackers with peanut butter in the evening.  Dinner was some of the frozen honey glazed chicken wings I had bought, corn, and a salad, followed by an apple and a slice of cake even though it still tasted bitter.

I had wanted to water the garden today, but it was too windy to do so.  I did do the dishes and cleaned the litter box and took the trash cans to the curb.  I also renewed my library book, on line, and put a hold request on another book (I'm #19 on the waiting list, but there are several copies available).

 Monday's To Do List:
- Do the dishes - DONE
- Clean the litter box - DONE
- Water the indoor plants - DONE
- Empty the trash cans - DONE
- Take the big trash cans to the curb - DONE
- Water the garden, front (by hand) and back (sprinklers)

Tuesday's To Do List:
- Put away washed dishes
- Bring the trash cans in
- Water the garden, front and back
- Return my friend's containers
- Tidy the house a bit

Today, I am grateful for:
- Visiting with my neighbor
- The eucalyptus tree withstood the strong gusts of wind!
- More oranges from my tree
- Another restful day
- Easy meals

How was your Monday?  Did you have a good start to your week?

  1. My Monday was good as I got to enjoy nice weather and do yard work. It's so nice to work outside.

    1. Glad your weather was nice enough for you to do yard work, Live and Learn. I'm sure you are enjoying discovering things about your new garden, although, I know there is a lot of work involved, as well. This morning, I discovered that yesterday's wind had knocked over one of the pots I keep on the doorstep in the front and it flattened some of the plants that were growing in the planting bed, below! Gladiolus bulbs that were coming up, and some other bulbs my gardener planted. I hope they will continue to grow, though.

Hope your nice weather continues and you can spend more days in your yard.

  2. That's nice that you had a visit with your neighbor. I think we all should do more visiting, it seems people are a tad bit lonely these days. Hope your wind dies down!

    1. Jane, I agree about the need for more visiting. This particular neighbor lost her husband just before Christmas, last year, after more than 50 years of marriage. Her son lives out of state and her daughter lives on her own, but visits her once a week or so. But neighbor is lonely and that's quite understandable. I call her when I go grocery shopping or go to the pharmacy to see if she needs anything and, occasionally, she has had me pick up something for her. I feel it's the least I can do.

The wind has died down and there is only a nice breeze. Hope you are having a lovely week.

  3. Hello Bless! Glad your arm is feeling better. Your flowers look beautiful on the mantel. I am partial to those vases. I bet your neighbor really appreciated your visit. It is nice to read how caring you are to them. Have a wonderful week! Hugs, Jen

    1. Hi, Jen. Thank you, yes, the arm is just about completely fine. I love having flowers on my mantel, but need to watch out with a cat who likes to eat them! African daisies are supposed to be non-poisonous to cats.

My neighbor did appreciate my visit. She is recently widowed after 50 plus years of marriage, so I imagine she feels very lonely.

Thank you for stopping by and commenting, Jen. I hope you have a lovely week, too.

  4. How very pretty are your African daisies with the green grass seed.

Monday we had light rain all morning but it cleared up in the afternoon, staying very cloudy. I did some laundry and managed to get in my walk, so a good day all in all.

Good news to hear that resting your arm is helping. Shame about the cake still has a bitter taste to you. Kind of you to share with others.

    1. Thank you, Sandy; I have lots of these flowers in my garden and they are not poisonous to cats (from what I read), so I don't have to worry about Dancer eating them! :)

Glad the rain cleared and you got to walk. I need to be more consistent with my own walking.

As for sharing the cake, glad to spread the calories around! :D

  5. I often learn something new from your blog, Bless, and this time I had to look up Cesar Chavez, and was pleased to learn about this important civil rights activist. What a wonderful man!

How nice to have a good visit with your neighbour.

I had a Monday afternoon surprise - a magnificent fox walked across the snow just a few feet away from my kitchen window! I called to DH who was upstairs and he managed to get a good look at it before it disappeared to the path down to the ravine.

DH is bustling about happily with organizing sap collecting and a couple of his helpers will arrive later this afternoon to empty pails. The sap has been freezing but will be thawed enough to collect soon as the temperature is well above freezing.

    1. Bushlady, how lovely to see a fox, and so close to your house! Glad your husband got to see it, too. Sounds like the sap collecting is well under way. Glad to hear it. Hope you have a nice, long sap running season. Have a lovely day and keep warm!

  6. Pretty flowers! (I just enjoyed reading your comments on my blog and answering them.) What a nice day you had! Such a nice visit to your neighbor. If only everyone took the time to stop and talk to each other! That is neat to be able to pick your own oranges. Andrea

    1. Thank you, Andrea. Too often, people are too busy going to work, taking care of the family and household tasks, etc., to sit and visit with neighbors, which is a pity. A lot of my neighbors tend to keep to themselves, but I do speak regularly with some of the nearest neighbors.

  7. What pretty flowers. It was kind of you to visit with your neighbor. You had talked before of a neighbor whose English wasn't very good, I take it that's a different neighbor? Greg's dad also passed away after 50 years of marriage to his mom but she seems to be doing OK, getting involved in the HOA of her neighborhood, playing Mah-jong, babysitting her newest grand-daughter.

    1. Thank you, Nathalie - so far, Dancer has left the flowers alone, so I am happy! The lady I visited yesterday is my neighbor to the right. The neighbors to my left are the ones who don't speak much English. I have visited them, too, but it is hard to hold a conversation (they used to have a daughter living with them who used to speak English and who used to translate for us; she has since moved away).

So glad to hear that Greg's mom is doing OK and getting involved in things. It is important to have some interests that keep one occupied and involved.

  8. I was alarmed about your arm. Any pain in the left arm is a warning. I read about a woman who complained of pain in her left wrist and doctors could find nothing wrong until she had a heart attack. Please see a doctor even if it gets better.

    1. Thank you for your concern. My arm feels much better now, but I will mention the pain to my doctor when I see her next. I have an appointment coming up, next week.

  9. So happy you had the wonderful visit with your neighbor. I do , think there are so many lonely people around us. You are very sweet to remember her.

    1. Thank you, Judy. Yes, a lot of lonely people. Sometimes, it is hard to find the time to reach out to them when one is busy, but so important to try to do so. Hope you're having a good week.

  10. That's a beautiful posy you made, with such simple components! I don't think I have ever seen osteospermum used in a vase before.

Lovely to hear that your neighbour enjoyed your visit so much. It's nice when neighbours can be friends too.

    1. Thank you, Lady Ella. Osteospermum don't really make a good cut flower because they don't last for more than a couple of days. But, they grow well in my garden in the spring, so, I have plenty to pick.

Neighbor T is someone who tends to keep herself to herself, but, she was one of the first neighbors to welcome me, introducing herself over the fence (which has since been replaced with a wall!)
