A Day Spent in Bed

I didn't sleep well, last night; kept waking up every hour or so until early morning and then, I finally fell asleep.  Woke up at 11:00 a.m. and had a cup of tea.  Replied to comments on my blog and spoke with my friend who called to check on me and with my aunt.  My cousin called too, to offer me a ride to the rosary prayer gathering tonight, but I told her I will not be going because I wasn't feeling well.  I also received a call from the friend who was hosting the rosary prayer gathering, to say she received my message and she's sorry I'm not well and can't attend; she said she will send me some dinner through my cousin.  I thanked her and told her not to worry, but she said it would be no trouble.

After that, I took two Tylenols and went to bed and slept all afternoon.  I didn't wake up until 7:30 p.m.!  I realized I hadn't eaten anything all day, so, once I got up, I opened a can of tuna and made myself a sandwich.  Dancer got a spoonful of tuna, too.  I opened my last can of coconut water to drink; I know I haven't been drinking enough water these past couple of days.  I hope I will feel better, tomorrow.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Being able to take it easy and rest
- A long afternoon nap
- Family and friends calling to check on me
- My friend offering to send me dinner
- Another dry, sunny day

It is supposed to rain, tomorrow.  I am not planning to go anywhere or do anything.  I do need to do the dishes, though.

How was your day?  Are you having a fun weekend?

  1. Oh, I just commented on your last post! So sorry you are feeling worst, but it is good that you have people to watch out for you. Maybe you need to do what the hospitals do and have a jug of water and glass beside you, so you can sip at will. I have been working in the garden, clearing the bed at the back of the house ready for the air condition unit to be installed Tuesday. Have my Roast Pork cooking, smelling yummy. Have a restful night. Sharon

    1. Thank you, Sharon. I just replied to your earlier comment! :) Glad to hear that you are getting an air conditioner put in. I woke up feeling better, this morning, but apparently, I've lost my voice! I tried to call out to Dancer for his morning treat, and could only croak!

  3. Oh dear - amazed at how positively you write after such a bad night and ask after your blog readers. Your gentle spirit comes thru. Having said that I will be glad when you see the doctor(s) on Mon and Tues. Healing thoughts Bless.

    1. Thank you, Sandy. I try to keep a positive attitude; it's too easy to get mired in the negativity and there's plenty of that going around, isn't there? I've been known to grumble a bit on occasion, but I tend to do that with my daughter and in my emails with a long-time friend, not so much here, on my blog. Maybe that gives a false picture of me? Hm, something to think about!

A lack of sleep doesn't seem to bother me too much; 5-6 hours seem to be my normal and sufficient. And I really am interested in hearing/reading about what others do, how they spend their days, etc. I understand that we all choose to share only so much of ourselves on what is essentially a very public forum, but, even so, I like to think of everyone of you who comment as a friend. :)

I woke up feeling much better, today, but I'm still coughing and I seem to have lost my voice! Oh, well. It's not like I was planning to give a speech or something, today. :)

Hope your day is going well, Sandy. Take care.

  6. So sorry you are still struggling with this "bug". I do hope you get better really soon. Poor Dancer will have to strain to hear you. At least you still have your written "voice" to share with human family and friends. I sympathize with your bad night. I simply couldn't get to sleep on Friday night and ended up coming downstairs and sorting through some old photos again. I was okay during the day, and slept well last night, but still need a nap to catch up on the hours lost.

This morning when I woke up, I was thinking about the bottles we will need for the maple syrup season. I looked in some catalogues to see what we can send away for. We may just be able to buy some in the next town though. We do recycle certain bottles but only if we can buy new caps for them.

I braised some pieces of lamb for supper yesterday but today I have some thawed out lean hamburger. I'd like to make some kind of pasties, but I suspect I may end up making cottage pie instead.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. I think I am on the mend, once I recover my voice, that is.

Yes, maple syrup season is almost upon you, isn't it? I hope it will be a good season. A lot of work for you, but I'm sure much appreciated by all who receive a bottle of syrup from you.

Pasties sound good; so does cottage pie, for that matter. I used to find lamb chops at the regular grocery store, years ago, and used to buy them, occasionally, when they went on sale. They must not have sold well, though, because now, I don't see them at the regular grocery store. The ethnic store, however, sells lamb legs. At $4.49/lb. this week, it costs a little more than the beef T-bone steaks on sale for $3.99/lb., but I know of many people who will not eat beef and eat lamb, instead.

  7. Hi Bless
I am sorry that you have been unwell these past few days, and echo what other readers have said about the love and support that your friends and family provide, which I know you return. That is priceless

I have spent the weekend watching the Labour party implode still further, whilst beingv cross that President T seems to have banned the BBC. Its the BBC.

Seeking some relief I have watched some of In which we serve- Noel Coward at his brilliant best and booked a cottage holiday in Wales near the Pontcysytlle adeduct....one of the world heritage sites in the UK

Sending warm wishes that you are soon feeling better

    1. Thank you, Siobhan. I've seen the doctor and received some treatments and medicines. I've a follow-up visit scheduled for Friday, so at least things are being taken care of.

Hope all is well with you and your preparations for getting your house on the market. When are you going on your holiday in Wales? Hope you'll have lovely weather during your stay.

      Take care.

  8. I'm sorry you haven't been feeling well, Bless. I hope that you have been able to take it easy today, too. I hate the aches and pains and general discomfort of being ill, particularly when it compromises my sleep. And then there is that all-encompassing weariness which is usually what really takes me out of the game. It's amazing how our bodies force us to heal, sometimes.

My parents visited over the weekend, which is always nice since we don't get to see them very often (they live in PA). We had lovely weather and spent a lot of time outside.

    1. Thank you, Laura. I'm feeling a lot better, today. So glad to hear that your parents visited you over the weekend. I'm sure they and you would have enjoyed the visit no matter what, but how nice to have good weather, as well. :)

  10. I'm glad you got to rest on Saturday, obviously your body really needed it since you felt much better the next day (save for losing your voice!). I need to drink more water too, I wake up at night and I feel parched. But I'd almost rather feel parched than have to go use the bathroom every couple of hours, ha.

I hope your Monday goes better.

    1. Thank you, Nathalie. I am feeling better. I was doing well with my water intake until I got sick - then I didn't feel like drinking water! It just didn't taste good to me. But I don't want to get dehydrated again, either! So I am trying to drink more water. Don't have any problems with needing to use the bathroom more frequently, so that doesn't bother me. Believe me, it's better than fainting and falling in the bathroom! I still have a dent in my forehead from where I hit it on the edge of the bathtub/shower door edge!
