On the way home, afterwards, I went to the bank and then, to the Armenian grocery store that is located next to the bank. And I realized that I haven't posted any of my December grocery shopping!
I had done some grocery shopping on December 1. The whipped topping, apple juice, eggs, etc., were meant for the almsgiving. The other items were for my personal use.
December 1 Groceries |
Purchases included the following items from the dollar stores:
1 packet of 3 Cup Noodles soup = $1.00
1 bag mini marshmallows = $1.00
1 bag pistachios = $1.00
2 boxes instant pudding mix @$.50 = $1.00
Total = $4.00
And these items from the regular grocery store:
2 packets of hot cocoa mix, @$.99 = $1.98
18 eggs = $2.89
Frozen breaded fish fillets = $3.99
2 whipped topping, @$2.49 = $4.98
1 apple juice = $1.99
1 package of 4 ground beef patties = $1.49
1eye of round roast = $9.36
1 frozen shrimp scampi = $2.99
Total = $29.67
Bargain Ground Beef Patties |
I also bought a box of brand name storage bags, because the bargain ones I bought from the dollar store didn't close properly! I do not include the price of that in my grocery budget, however, as I count it as household items.
December 1 Grocery Receipt |
I got a good bargain on the frozen shrimp scampi too, I think. Originally priced at $8.99 (I wouldn't have bought it at that price!); on sale for $3.99 and another $1 off because it was a participating item in a buy 4 items and save $1 per item sale.
December 1 grocery shopping total = $4 + $29.67 = $33.67
I had intended to go grocery shopping on the Saturday after that for fresh produce, but then, I fell on Friday and plans changed.
Today, I went grocery shopping again and bought a lot of fresh produce:
December 12 Groceries |
I bought:
1 can 15 oz. of fish (mackerel) = $1.69
1 container (1 lb.) yogurt = $1.99
1 lb. unsalted butter = $2.50
1 package sesame crackers = $2.54
1.66 lb. small white potatoes, @3 lb/$1.00 = $.55
1 lb. carrots = $.45
1 Romaine lettuce = $.34
1 zucchini (.35 lb.) @ 3lb/$1 = $.12
.55 lb. broccoli @ $.49/lb = $.27
1 cucumber = $.34
.35 lb. green beans @$.99/lb. = $.35
1 container (6 oz.) blackberries = $.99
2.15 lb. apples @$.39/lb = $.84
1.52 lb. bananas @$.49/lb = $.74
.85 lb. Bosc pear, $.49/lb = $.42
1.49 lb. Satsuma tangerines @$.79/lb = $1.18
Total = $15.31
December 12 Grocery Receipt |
I bought small quantities of a variety of fresh produce, today.
Total spent on groceries in December so far = $33.67 + $15.31 = $48.98
I had almost $41 ($40.91 to be exact) leftover from my November/almsgiving grocery budget. I will carry it forward to December.
December grocery budget = $75 + $41 = $116
Amount left in December grocery budget = $116 - 48.98 = $67.02
After I came home and put away the groceries, I had a late lunch and spent the rest of the afternoon and early evening doing office work. I also emptied the waste bins and recycling and took the trash cans to the curb for trash pick up tomorrow. Dusted the living room coffee table and piano. Did the dishes. The referral to the neurologist was approved and I received the authorization in the mail, today. So, I called and made an appointment. The earliest they had available is in mid-January.
I had made a cheese sandwich for my breakfast today and had taken it with me to the clinic, but I wasn't very hungry and so ate only half of it for breakfast. I brought the other half home with me and grilled it and had that with a bowl of tomato soup for my lunch. A banana for dessert. For dinner, I pulled out some of the roast beef I had prepared and frozen, earlier (with the eye of round I had bought on December 1), added some of the potatoes, carrots, and green beans I bought today, and made myself a sort of pot roast:
Pot Roast Dinner |
There is enough leftover for another meal, later this week. Yogurt and gelatin for dessert (I made the gelatin yesterday).
Today, I am grateful for:

How was your Monday?
I'm so pleased your MRI results were clear. It must be a weight off your mind. I'm off to the supermarket this morning to stock up the store cuoboard. I'm not very good at keeping a good store of dried and tinned goods and I'm hoping to change this. X
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jules. Yes, both my daughter and I are very relieved and thankful.
DeleteHope you had a successful shopping trip. Having a few basics on hand is a good idea, especially if you live in an area where the roads might be blocked due to bad weather, etc.
I am happy to hear that your fainting was probably caused by dehydration because that can be easily fixed. Also, your lunch of grilled cheese and tomato soup is one of my favorites, but I haven't had it for a while. I'm gonna have to change that. :)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Live and Learn. Yes, it looks more and more as if the fainting was due to dehydration and not something worse. I am so thankful. As you say, the dehydration is easily fixed.
DeleteGrilled cheese and tomato soup is a classic combination, isn't it? Hope you get to enjoy some, soon.
So happy to hear your good results! I'm sure it's such a relief. Your shopping bargains look really good. I don't seem to find too many of them. Might be a little easier when I get a car again and can go shopping on weekdays.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sharon. Yes, it is a big relief!
DeleteHope you find those grocery bargains!
Sending hugs. I'm glad you got the approval of the neurologist. I hear you about the bags. Sometimes you just have to spend a little bit extra to get what you need. Take care x
ReplyDeleteThank you, Lyssa. I am usually quite happy with the dollar store products for a single use/disposable item, but I needed bags that closed properly! I might stock up on a couple more boxes of the brand name products when they go on sale, next.
DeleteWonderful news, Bless!!!! Prayers answered!!! Amazing how something as simple as not enough liquids can wreak such havoc. Glad you're on the mend!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Carolyn. Never realized just how little water I was actually drinking!
DeleteSo happy to hear the MRI was ok..
ReplyDeleteYou find really good deals on produce.. and the shrimp scampi was really a good deal.
Hope you have a good week.
Thank you, Judy. I am so thankful and relieved. :)
DeleteThis one particular store seems to have the best prices on produce. Sometimes, some of the other stores have good prices, too, but their quality is not always the best, or I don't like to shop there.
I haven't tried the shrimp scampi yet, but the price seemed right!
{{{Hugs}}} I am so delighted to see vegetables in your photo. I ran downstairs and offer a toast and best wishes to you with a glass of V8.
ReplyDeleteHow can we persuade you to be more mindful of hydration? Possibly add a strip of glasses/cups to your electronic journaling to strike out as fulfilled? Possibly because our air is so dry here, we consume a lot of liquid, particularly, water, tea, coffee, soup, sport drinks and nearly bathe our skin in quality skin care products to avoid chapped, rough skin.
Yesterday we finally had a break in minus 25 weather, wind chill minus 33. My poor dog misses his 3 daily walks but he hardly manages returning to the door having done 'business' on the patio at his favorite spot. The 1st night he returned to the door on only 3 feet, 4th was too cold to walk on, nor could he hop up through the open door!
Thanks, Hon! Raising my glass of water to you, in return! :D I have a 16 oz. glass that I fill with water and keep track of how many of those glasses I drink a day, now, making sure I drink at least 4 of them. Not taking into account the 2 cups of tea or any juice, etc.
DeleteMy goodness, but it is cold up there! Bundle up and keep warm!
Delighted to hear of your excellent MRI result! Also that there is no apparent cause for your fainting except most likely dehydration. You can deal with that.
ReplyDeleteI try to remember to check my grocery receipts but I don't always keep an eye on the cash register, so yesterday I was a little annoyed later to find that I had been charged for 2 containers of frozen yogurt instead of one. (especially since I had only bought 2 other items!) So I went back to the store and got a refund and was happy with that.
Bushlady
Thank you, Bushlady. Definitely making it a point to drink enough water!
DeleteI, too, don't always watch the cash register; sometimes it's hard to do, especially when the cashier starts checking things out while you are still putting items on the conveyor belt. Glad you were able to go back and get a refund for the extra container of yogurt!
Excellent news Bless. So happy for you, I really am. Keep drinking that water :) Will you be booked in for more hydration sessions or will you just need to self monitor? xx
ReplyDeleteThank you, Suzanne. Yes, I've another hydration session scheduled for this Friday. I think there might be one or two more, but not sure. In the meantime, I am drinking my 8 8-oz. glasses, a day!
