I told my daughter to take lots of pictures to post on my blog! She laughed at me, but obliged. I selected a few more to publish. Keep in mind that this is not the scenic route. The scenic route is US Route 101, which hugs the coastline. It is a longer route as the road winds along the coastline and takes longer to drive. I have always chosen the alternate, U.S. Interstate 5, which takes one through mostly farmland. Not much scenery, but the road is mostly straight and I can usually drive it in 6 hours or under.
The first part of the drive takes us through some mountains as we climb up to Tejon Pass at an elevation of 4,144 feet. There are some mountains towards the end of the drive, as well, as we approach Berkeley.

A View of the Mountains |
The road winds through the mountains.

Another View of the Mountains |
The route takes us through the Central Valley, which produces much of
the State's agriculture. We pass miles and miles of vegetables,
alfalfa, fruit orchards, etc.
|
Farmland on Either Side |
We passed several signs protesting the water rationing due to the drought:

Sign Protesting Water Restrictions |
And the results of those water restrictions:

Dead Orchards |

Life-Sustaining Irrigation |

Irrigated Orchards |
And some cattle ranches:

Hope you enjoyed the pictures.
What beautiful scenery... Hope you two have a great time.

DeleteIt's nice to see mountains! We don't have any here. Our elevation is 102 ft. LOL. Thank your daughter for me, I love seeing photos!
ReplyDeleteThat was one of the first things I noticed when I came to California - all the mountains. I will convey your thanks to her!
DeleteI love your pictures, they give the impression of wide spaces, which is amazing. x
ReplyDeleteGlad you like them. :)
DeleteGreat photos. They show the vastness of the country and the wonderful sky that we don't see when we are in the midst of houses and trees.
ReplyDeleteBushlady
Yes, it's beautiful open country. Not congested like in the cities.
DeletePretty :-)
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jess.
