Wednesday's Progress

"Cotton Candy" Blanket

Today is a nice, sunny, relatively warm (mid 60's) day.  I got up at 6:30 a.m. and was out of the house by 7:30 a.m. to go to the clinic.  My appointment was for 8:45 a.m.  I was there on time and had the injection and was out of the clinic by 9:00 a.m.  Home before 10:00 a.m. as traffic was light going away from downtown. 

When I came home, there was a message from one of my friends - he was bringing me lunch today!  How lovely!  I have the best friends, ever!  He brought me a big plate of rice and vegetarian curries; I ate half and kept the other half for another day, as I couldn't eat it all at one sitting.

After I came home, I started on the office-related work.  Need to spend more time on that, this afternoon.  In between, I took short breaks to to a few items from today's To Do list.

I called the pharmacist to request a box of anti-bacterial masks.  The pharmacy near my house didn't stock them (daughter had looked for them), so I called the pharmacy near my work place, where I had bought my current box.   The pharmacist there was able to locate one box (I had wanted two) and said she'll order another box.  Each box contains 50 disposable, one-time-use masks.  I wear one each time I go to the clinic  and sometimes even when I go for a walk around the block, so go through several masks a week.  Over the years, I've made friends with the pharmacist at that particular store, so she said she will bring the box of masks to me over the weekend.  Have I mentioned that I am blessed with the best friends, ever?

I have been able to sort through the pile of paperwork I put off doing, yesterday.  There's some filing to do, but that will be kept for another day.

And then, I put away the laundry from yesterday.  Among the items were two blankets I had knitted when I was pregnant with daughter.  The pink one pictured above is knitted with a pink and white fuzzy yarn; I refer to it as the "cotton candy" blanket, as that's what the yarn reminds me of!  I had meant it to be a baby blanket, but my mother encouraged me to make it bigger and so, it's more like a throw to curl up under when napping on the sofa!

It is an adaptation of a pattern I have in one of my knitting books.  I remember doing a sample square of the pattern as given in the book (still have that sample square in my yarn bin!) and then, simplified it to feature bands of alternating garter stitch and stockinette stitch once the flower petals were knitted. The original pattern had rows of bobbles and more texture.

The second blanket was also meant to have been a baby blanket, but ended up being twin bed sized!  A lot more useful than baby blankets, I guess - they are still being used today and the "baby" for whom they were made is going to be 23 on her next birthday (in about 6 weeks!)  The center is knitted and then, I crocheted the border, around.  The colors of lemon and white reminds me of lemon meringue pie!  And they remain a favorite color combination for baby gifts, especially, (although, these days, more and more people know the gender of the baby before hand).

This blanket is knit using a knitting technique known as "entrelac"; it produces a woven basket effect.

So, here's how today's To Do list looks like at 1:00 p.m.:

- Injection in the a.m. - DONE

- Office-related work - Started

- Put away dried laundry - DONE

- Do another load of laundry

- Vacuum bedrooms

- Paperwork - DONE

- Call pharmacist - DONE

Plans for the rest of the day include doing office-related work, vacuuming the bedrooms, and another load of laundry - quilts, this time.  :)

Today, I am grateful for:

- Being able to drive myself to the clinic for my injection and back without any difficulties
- Sunshine and warmer temperatures after the recent colder and grey days
- Lunch from a friend
- Pharmacist friend will bring me a box of masks
- Birds singing outside in the sunshine
