On the last day of November, I took the day off from work.
I slept in till quite late - I guess I must have been tired. But the down side of sleeping in is I lose most of the morning!
For brunch, I cooked scrambled eggs and the shredded potato hash browns my daughter likes:

I used two medium sized potatoes and hand grated them and formed them into patties because that's how she likes them.
In the afternoon, I ran errands. First, I went to pay my homeowner's and earthquake insurance. After that, I went to Costco for a stock-up - toilet paper, cat food, meal replacement/nutritional drinks, and some holiday cookies, daughter's favorite chocolates, and pastries. On the way home, I stopped at the pet supplies place and bought two 30-lb. containers of cat litter.
All this stocking up makes me feel like I am preparing for a siege! But, I'm preparing for when I am having my treatments, since I've been told to avoid public places when my immune system will be compromised. This way, I won't have to go shopping for cat food, etc. Or ask anyone else to, either. I think it's fine to ask my cousin or neighbor to pick up some groceries, etc., when they are shopping, but I don't want to bother them to pick up cat litter, etc.
Later, I did another load of laundry and cooked shrimp for dinner (along with rice and broccoli). Took the trash cans out, too, to the curb, for pick up in the morning.
Tomorrow, daughter will go back to Berkeley for the week - she has two final exams on Wednesday and then, she'll be back on Thursday night to go with me to my treatment on Friday. Busy days for her.
Today, I'm grateful for:
- Sleeping in!
- A day to run errands
- Being able to stock up
- A friend sending me an idea for a new quilt
- Words of encouragement from friends of friends, who are themselves undergoing treatment.
How was your last day of November?
Sounds like a very productive day. I've always wanted to make my own hash browns, but have just never gotten around to it. My Monday was alright. Little Wolf is running a low fever and is feeling a bit better.
ReplyDeleteJess, glad to hear that Little Wolf is feeling a little better. Hope he continues to feel better and the fever goes away. You take care of yourself and your little one.
DeleteYou had a very productive day! Love potato pancakes! My husband's family is Polish and it's a staple. :) Just curious ... Do you find that the pet supplies store has a better price than Costco on cat litter? Am always looking for a good deal! Glad you had a great day!
ReplyDeleteCarolyn, to be quite honest, I haven't checked into Costco prices for cat litter! I've always bought the litter from Petco - I think, because we picked up the first cat from a cat rescue group at a Petco and just picked up all the supplies from there. And we've just continued to buy their scoopable litter, using the reusable buckets. Refills of 30 lbs. cat litter goes on sale for $9.99 (regular price $11.99). How much is the Costco cat litter?
DeletePurina makes a non-clumping cat litter that is so much better and lasts longer. It's called Tidy Cats Non-Clumping Litter for Multiple Cats (even though I have just one). I will never go back to the clumping.
DeleteThanks for the info. I've always used clumping but I'll talk to daughter about trying the non-clumping.
DeleteSeeing that you mentioned paying earthquake insurance (makes sense in California), I thought you would be interested to know that we also pay earthquake insurance. We live in the Ottawa Valley which is a seismic area, and although tremors are rare, we have had them and we do live on about 150 feet of sand, (an ancient sea bed), so earthquakes tend to ripple through from far away and who knows what a close one might do. DH decided he wanted to pay the insurance and we have done this for years.

Bushlady, that's so interesting! Somehow, I never realized that you have earthquakes up there, too!
DeleteYou really accomplished a lot. Proud your getting all your stuff done..
ReplyDeleteThanks, Judy. Some days I am quite productive and then, other days, I'm just a slug!
