Ten on the Tenth - October

Joining blog friend Joy at Forty Three The Final Front Door with October's ten photos taken on the 10th of the month.

In honor of October being Breast Cancer Awareness month and celebrating it being 11 years since my lumpectomy (done on October 2, 2015), I'm going with a pink theme:

A Pink Ribbon Sticker on my Bananas

Pink Lantana

Pink Rose 1

Pink Rose 2

Pink Oleander

Pink Pony

Pink Pipecleaner Flowers

Pink Pipecleaner Rose

Pink Crocheted Phone Carrying Pouch

Pink Silk Sari (My Mother's 'Going Away' Sari; October is her Birth Month)

Thank you, Joy, for hosting the Ten on the 10th Photo Challenge.

  1. Lots of pretty pink there...The climate and path report indicated this area might have flooding and feeder bands but I have seen no evidence of either. Hopeful that no more occurs and Nov. 30 arrives quietly.

    1. Thank you, e. I, too, hope that you don't get any of the rains and floods and high winds due to hurricanes and storms. Hope you manage to stay out of the storm paths.

    1. Thank you, Angela. The silver used in the sari has tarnished in some areas; I washed the sari to see if that will help remove some of the tarnish, but, I don't think it helped.

    1. Thank you, Celie. My mother's sari is discolored in some places because the silver threads used in the design have tarnished. I washed it to see if that helped, but, it didn't. So now, I am wondering...do I continue to keep it? If so, then, for what purpose? I don't think I can wear it with the discoloration and there are some tiny tears, too. Or, do I thank it for its service and declutter it?

    2. Maybe you could make something from parts that are still good? A scarf, or small quilted/patchwork throw pillow. I have a quilt my grandmother made as a young woman, that is mostly in shreds but there's just enough still nice that I could make a sofa pillow. Just one of many things I'd planned to do once I retired...

    3. I think there might be enough undamaged parts that might be used to make smaller items. After all, a sari consists of 6 yards of fabric. I was thinking of making a scarf or, maybe, even a blouse (especially if I lined it for extra strength). I hope you are able to make the sofa pillow with your grandmother's quilt. That might be a project to work on after you return from your trip. :)

    1. Thank you, June. It's a topic that is, for very obvious reasons, important to me and when I saw the pink ribbon sticker on the banana, I knew what my theme should be. As for the sari, as I stated in my response to Celie, above, I am wondering if I should continue to keep it (it is tarnished in places and there are tiny tears) or to declutter it.

  8. Are there parts of the sari that are still good? Could you frame a small portion as a keepsake or make a small pillow?

    1. I am going to take another look at the sari. I think there are some parts that are still good and can be used to make something else. I'll add it to the projects to do this winter. :)
