| Jacaranda Tree in Bloom |
The merry month of May as some refer to it. I celebrated the start of a new month with milkrice and seeni sambol for brunch and a delivery of groceries. M was unable to tend to the garden as he got delayed at another client's house and he called and asked if he could do my garden on Saturday, instead, and I said yes. Daughter tidied up the family room and I baked two of the frozen pot pies and a bread pudding for our dinner and dessert.
On Saturday, M tended to the back garden, tidying it up, planting some cucumber seedlings he shared with us, and watering. I watered the front garden.
Later, I tidied up the dining area and I sorted through one of the kitchen cabinets. I have decided that the kitchen will be my "room of the month" in May. The cabinet I sorted through is where I store my stand mixer and crock pot, plus a basket with extra kitchen supplies such as parchment paper, cling wrap, sandwich bags, and sponges, etc. I took the opportunity to update the list of extra supplies I keep taped to the inside of one of the cabinet doors. I plan to sort out the divided drawer above that cabinet. next. I keep things like the currently in use box of foil, cling wrap, and sandwich bags in one side of that drawer and the other side is my "all purpose a.k.a. junk" drawer. It's been a while since I last sorted through it.
In the afternoon, the phone company technicians were here to install an upgrade to our internet service. Our neighborhood just received high speed internet as our current internet services are being phased out. We are hoping that this upgrade will enable my daughter to participate in work meetings from the spare bedroom rather than the family room and/or dining area which is what she has been doing. If the reception is good enough in the spare bedroom, we have plans to turn that room into a home office for her. Then, she can close the door and do her work without being disturbed by me doing housework or cooking, etc. Currently, I do mostly quiet activities while she'sworking because I don't want to make any noise and disturb her. Of course, that will mean I will no longer have any excuses for not doing housework! LOL.
Brunch was leftover milkrice and seeni sambol. For dinner, I cooked a chicken curry (and daughter put the rice to boil). We had rice, chicken curry, kale mallung, broccoli, and sauteed cabbage for dinner and bread pudding for dessert.
Looking ahead, I have a dental appointment, some lab tests to be done, and an appointment with the oncology nurse practitioner scheduled for this month.
At the start of May, I am grateful for:
- My daughter's help with all the work involved in switching over to a new internet service
- Helpful technicians
- M's help with the garden
- Water for the garden
- Working appliances
Joyful activities have included piecing my quilt top, gardening, spending time with my daughter, and watching videos.
What are your plans for May?

For me May is a getting ready month. We will be out of the country for 3 1/2 weeks and I need to get a lot done between now and trip time.
ReplyDeleteSounds like you will be busy! But, May is a nice time to travel, isn't it? Depending on where you are going, it will not be too hot or too cold. :)
DeleteThat tree is lovely. Is it in your garden? It has finally warmed up here enough to start garden work. I need to make a new flower bed somewhere, as the old one is now too shaded by a tree that's growing. I'm running low on sunny spots!
ReplyDeleteIt is a lovely tree, isn't it? It's one of the street trees on the parkways on my block. This particular one is growing in a neighbor's parkway. I have a small one growing in my garden, too, but, it hasn't flowered yet. I hope you are able to make a new flower bed in a sunny spot in your garden. In the meantime, you might plant some shade loving plants in the shadier spots.
DeleteDH and I have doctor's appointments, DH has to have a tooth out, and we are busy getting the yard out of winter mode and into spring. Of course the plants are doing their thing anyway, but I want to put out the 3 or 4 solar lights we have, and clean the surface of the front porch. Also I shall be looking out for some plants to place beside the front steps.
ReplyDeleteGood luck with all the medical and dental appointments, Bushlady, and all the yard work, too. I hope you are able to find some lovely plants for your front steps. I have potted succulents along one side of the steps leading to my door. :)
DeleteI think your new internet will work well for your daughter. A dedicated office space that can be closed off will be good for both of you. I remember when my husband and I were working from home and how we had to plan our activities around each other’s work meetings.
ReplyDeleteThank you, June. That's what we are hoping for. It'll be good for her to be able to close her door and I can clean or run the washing machine during the day when she's working without disturbing her. :)
DeleteWhat a good idea to have a 'room' of the month! I think I may adopt this as it seems a bit more focused than the haphazard way I'm going about decluttering! Not sure what room I'll pick as May is a busy month but I shall concentrate on just one.
ReplyDeleteIf May is a busy month, I suggest picking a room that will be easy to declutter and organize in the time you have. A room that will be a "quick win" so to speak. Some rooms might take more than a month, but that is okay, too.
DeleteWhat a wonderful spring tree.
ReplyDeleteThat will be nice if your daughter can create her own separate office.
I hope the new internet works out.
It's always fun to create new spaces and get things all set up the way you want.
It is a beautiful tree, isn't it?
DeleteYes, it will be convenient if daughter has her own office - she can close the door and work in it and I won't have to worry about disturbing her when I'm doing housework, etc. :)
