Sculpture in the Gardens: World Pollinators Display

Pygmy Possum and Banksia Flower

When we visited the Descanso Botanical Gardens, last week, we were fascinated by the artwork we found in the model train area.  It was called, "World Pollinators" and featured sculptures created with various plant material, depicting a selection of pollinators and their host plants.

Yucca Moth and Yucca Flower

Black and White Ruffed Lemur and Ravenala Flower

Day Gecko and Trochetia Flower

Long Tongued Fruit Bat and Banana Flower

Euglossa Bee and Vanilla Orchid

Male Mosquito and Blunt Leaf Orchid

Chocolate Midge and Cacao

Red Milkweed Beetle and Butterfly Milkweed

Honeycreeper and Lobelia Flower

I don't usually put links on my posts, but, I am providing a link to the website that provides additional information about the sculptures, the pollinators and their host plants here.

I loved this display.  My photos aren't the best, but I hope you enjoyed the sculptures.

  1. A fabulous display, thank you for sharing the pictures. What a contrast between these large scale models, and the miniatures I posted about on Thursday

    1. Thank you, Angela. Yes, quite a contrast, but each is unique in its own way, isn't it?

  2. What amazing sculptures! They are rather lovely - although some of them look rather menacing on a large scale!

    1. They are amazing, aren't they? At first, I didn't realize that they were made out of plant material.

  10. That was a lucky encounter! I like the honeycreeper best. Not sure which bit the lobelia is, but ours are very different. The possum is quite cute but I don't think I would care to meet one IRL!

    1. It was, wasn't it? I'm so glad I got to see it. The lobelia shown in the sculpture seems to be the Oahu Lobelia (Lobelia oahuensis) which is endemic to Hawaii.
