| In the Rose Garden |
We had a busy day on Friday. Daughter had the day off from work and we had planned to go to the botanical gardens, again. Daughter had gifted me (and herself) with a dual annual membership, last year, as I had so enjoyed my previous visit to the botanical gardens last November. We couldn't go earlier because I was experiencing sciatica flare ups and other health issues. But, I'm feeling better now and so, we decided to visit.
So, on Friday, we packed a lunch (roast beef sandwiches, tangerines, bottles of flavored water and plain water) and set off to visit the gardens. I will do a separate post about it, but we spent about an hour enjoying the botanical garden, as one hour of walking (with short breaks to sit for a few minutes) is about the extent of my stamina,, these days.
In the end, we decided to come home and eat, so, we brought our packed lunch home and enjoyed it in the comfort of our home.
After lunch, I showed daughter how to sew hooks and eyes on her dress and she finished sewing her dress.

She was still putting some final touches to her dress when her friend V arrived to spend the evening. I had tidied the living room and dining area, on Thursday, and daughter had vacuumed Thursday evening, in anticipation of V's visit, so the front rooms were company ready. They chatted and played some games for the next three hours or so.
M also arrived to tend to the garden and he brought us an Easter treat:

M was happy to hear that we had visited the botanical gardens again.
- A safe drive to the botanical gardens and back
- An enjoyable visit to the botanical gardens
- The sound of laughter as daughter and her friend chatted and played their games
- M's help with the garden and an Easter treat

Buying a membership to the gardens was a smart move. That way you can visit multiple times without pushing to see more when you're tired because you want to get your money's worth.
ReplyDeleteYour daughter's dress is pretty. Does she have a special occasion where she is going to wear it?
Thank you, June. Yes, that is the plan - to visit the gardens many times and just see one or two areas at a time. There are still several areas of the garden that we have not seen, yet.
DeleteSince this is the first time daughter sewed a dress, it was sort of a practice piece and she wasn't planning to wear it out, but, I've suggested she could wear it to our friends' house for Easter and she might do that.
It does sound like you had a good day! Your daughter's dress is lovely. I like the deep color and style. And the cupcakes look yummy! I will spend Easter at home, and then Monday I drive to my sister's in Indiana for a week visit. Weather should be fine for the trip.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Celie. It was a good day and I enjoyed it. :)
DeleteDaughter's dress turned out well, didn't it? The fabric was something my mother had bought that we had in the stash! I know my mother would have been happy to know that her granddaughter made herself a dress with it. :)
The cupcakes were delicious; I get to have all the jelly beans because my daughter doesn't like them! I must remember to buy myself a packet of jelly beans after Easter, when they go on sale.
I wish you a very happy Easter, Celie, and a safe drive to your sister's and back. Have a lovely visit with her.
The gardens look lovely. How nice of daughter to gift you both with a membership that you will enjoy throughout the year.
ReplyDeleteThe dress looks beautiful!
It was very nice of daughter to gift us with the membership, Sharon. We plan to make full use of the membership.
DeleteThank you, Sharon; the dress turned out quite well considering it was her first attempt. :)
How lovely to see the mountains behind the rose bushes! I hope you and your daughter make many trips to the gardens. How lovely that the material for the new dress came originally from your daughter's grandmother's stash. That makes it very special. I do like the look of those cupcakes!
ReplyDeleteIt's a pretty view, isn't it? Thank you, Bushlady; we are hoping to make many visits to the gardens.
DeleteMy mother used to go downtown to the garment district with M's aunt, quite often, and buy fabric at a greatly reduced price. I still have several pieces of fabric that she purchased, waiting to be sewn.
Someone did a great job decorating those cupcakes, didn't they?
You had a great day.
ReplyDeleteI love your daughters dress. I wear that style a lot, but I am old and wear a shrug or sweater over it, cause no one wants to see my arms!
I love that M brought y'all cupcakes.
Have a nice Easter, celebrating it or not!
Thank you, Anne; I enjoyed my day on Friday. :)
DeleteI'm sure you have well toned arms, but, yes, daughter can wear a sweater with her dress if the weather is cool.
It was very kind of M to bring us cupcakes. He's a good friend.
Thank you for the Easter wishes; hope you, too, have a lovely Easter, Anne. :)
Beautiful photos! It looks like a wonderful day!
