On Thursday

Peach Tree in February (2/9/26)

Remember how the peach tree looked in February?   Well, all the flowers are faded now, but, look what's there in their place:

Baby Peache (3/1/26)

I woke up to gusts of Santa Ana winds blowing on Thursday morning.  I kept looking at the eucalyptus tree, anxiously, but, fortunately, nothing happened to it.  Some potted plants, including the passion fruit vine toppled over (with the vine still clinging to the trellis), but, no broken tree branches, etc.  Thank goodness for that!

In the afternoon, I went to my doctor's appointment, accompanied by my daughter who took time off from work to go with me.  I left early, at 12:15 p.m. for a 1:30 p.m. appointment, in anticipation of traffic, but, I didn't have to go all the way to the very center of downtown, and traffic was fairly light.  As a result we were early for the appointment, but, I prefer to go early and wait rather than feel rushed.  The appointment with the doctor went well enough.  I had lost weight since my last appointment at the beginning of December and my A1c level had come down to a very good level.  I had also, apparently, shrunk at least one inch since my height was last measured!  No wonder I've been finding it harder to reach the higher shelves, recently!

We experienced some traffic on the way back and I stopped to pick up a pizza, some breadsticks, and a coffee drink for daughter once we got nearer to home.  We got home around 3:30 p.m. and daughter went back to work.

After daughter finished her work for the day, we went to the pharmacy to pick up a medication my doctor had prescribed.  I received another $2.00 Extra Care Bucks coupon so we picked up yet another box of cereal that was still on sale for $1.99.  Afterwards, we stopped by the dollar store because daughter wanted to look at their craft items, but, they didn't have anything she wanted and we didn't buy anything else.

On the way home, I passed by the same gas station where I filled up on Tuesday.  The gas that was $4.69 per gallon on Tuesday was $5.09 today!  It went up $0.40 per gallon in just two days!  Makes me feel very glad that I filled up when I did!

I made us cups of tea after we came home and watched the evening news.

We had pizza for a late lunch and we had pizza again for dinner, too.  There are two more slices of pizza left for daughter's brunch, tomorrow.

On Thursday, I was grateful for:

- There was no damage due to the Santa Ana winds
- Access to medical care
- A safe drive to the doctor's office and back
- The availability of medications
- Daughter was able to take time off from work to accompany me

Thursday's joyful activities included playing Sudoku and watching videos.

Plans for Friday include the follow-up appointment with the oral surgeon and tending to the garden with M in the evening.

How was your Thursday?  What are your plans for Friday?

  1. If the blossoms are any indication, you're going to have a lot of peaches this year. Glad you appointment went well.

    1. Thank you, June; yes, the appointment went well.
We usually thin out the peach fruits at least twice before they ripen, otherwise the branches can't bear the weight and, also, the resulting fruit tend to be small. Even so, I usually get enough peaches to share with friends and neighbors. :)

  2. Sounds like a busy day and I am glad the Santa Ana winds didn't do any damage. It sounds like a good dr appointment even if you did shrink an inch. I think we all shrink a bit as we get older. I am glad your daughter was able, and willing, to take some time off to go with you for the appointment and stops here and there.
Have a wonderful weekend- xo Diana

  4. I hope the peaches ripen and you can enjoy them before birds and squirrels do! I'm glad the dr appointment generally went well, but sorry she couldn't be more helpful for the sciatica. I hope that is doing better now.

    1. Thank you, Celie. I will have to find a way to keep the birds and earwigs, of all things, out of my peaches!
The sciatica pain comes and goes and changes legs. Last week, it was the left leg; this week it is the right leg. It was good in the morning, but, now, after driving to my appointments and a couple of other errands, my right leg is complaining.

Lily and I have enjoyed pizza this evening. It's a quick and easy treat at the end of a busy week.
It looks like you'll be getting a good peach harvest this year. Xx

  6. I hope you have a huge peach yield. Getting food from your yard us always wonderful and you seem to have some almost idyllic growing conditions.
Thursday was uneventful here, but a good day. And today is also pretty uneventful but I am getting a good bit done.

    1. Thank you, Anne. Our climate is good for growing things, as long as we have enough water. Uneventful days are good too, as they allow us to reset our lives.

  7. The traffic must be so busy where you are, when you have to get out onto the main roads! You do well to leave plenty of time for your appointments. Good to know your visit to the doctor went well.

    1. We do have a lot of traffic congestion in my area, Bushlady, and I try to leave plenty of time to get to appointments without having to rush. I'd rather be too early than too late to appointments. Thank you; the doctor's visit went well. :)

  9. Well it all bodes well and I hope you get the thinning/saving balance right to help the tree. And then I hope the birds are kind enough to share!

    1. Thank you, Lady Ella. According to M, only about 1/3 of the fruit should be allowed to develop fully and ripen, but, I try to limit the thinning to about 50%. The birds seem to think that I am growing my garden for them! They've eaten my celery and carrots tops and even the tops of my potatoes! I suspect the mourning doves because I see them walking around the garden pecking at things.

  10. PS. Lost weight (hooray!) but shrunk? Is that where the weight came off, I wonder. Hope not, but now it will be even harder to reach the high shelves in the kitchen!

    1. Yes, I've lost height! I wasn't that tall to begin with, but, now, I'm even shorter!

  11. I think you're going to have a good year for your peaches.
I'm glad you didn't lose any branches with your wind.
Today I've been sawing up the last of the branches that were too big to put in the yard waste can. Now I only have one left. But this one is a monster that I cannot handle by myself.
It is jammed into the ground like a spear from the high winds during the blizzard and at least 15ft high lodged into a large maple tree.
I will see if my friend with a chain saw is free to come over.
I hope your doctor's appointment was a good one.
Yeah! for another box of free cereal.

    1. Thank you, Debra. I am hoping I'll have a good peach harvest this year. I keep eyeing that eucalyptus tree! I need to get the tree trimmer out, soon!
Oh, my! You've had fallen branches to deal with! I do hope your friend with a chain saw can come over and help with that last monster branch!
The doctor's appointment went well enough. She's a rather old school, "Take an aspirin and call me in the morning" type of doctor and I'm sure she thinks I'm a bit of a hypochondriac! :D I complained about some aches and pains and she told me, "You're 70 years old; of course you will have aches and pains"! LOL.
