| Mixed Fruit Dump Cake |
It was rather cloudy on Wednesday and "cool" with a high of 65F. But, it was a good day to garden and M repotted the blueberry bush that was drying up and losing its leaves and he transplanted the raspberry plant. It had been growing in a planter and we planted it in the ground. He also sprayed some copper spray on the fruit trees and we placed a "collar" of wire mesh around the trunk of the Asia pear tree as the garden cats have started to sharpen their claws on it and have damaged the bark!
I mended one of the long sleeved T-shirts daughter had decluttered which I had taken for myself. There was a small tear near the hem and I mended the hole and rehemmed it. I also unpicked the large tag/label with the clothing company name that had been sewn on the back because the label felt scratchy when I wore the top.
I spent the afternoon watching some videos and knitting. Later, I sorted through one of the pantry cabinets and one of the freezer shelves. As part of the freezer shelf organizing, I pulled out a package of homegrown peaches, a package of homegrown blueberries, and a small package of strawberries. I put the frozen fruit into a square glass baking pan and poured half a package of yellow cake mix on top and dotted the top with some pats of butter. Then, I baked it at 350F for 30 minutes and made what I'm calling a mixed fruit dump cake. I didn't add any sugar to the frozen fruit as the cake mix is sweet enough.

Daughter and I enjoyed some of the mixed fruit dump cake after dinner, while it was still warm.
- M's help with the garden
- Working appliances and electricity and natural gas to run them
- Being able to mend and to knit

Dump cakes are so good and your combination of fruit sounds delicious. I am having M envy again. I want him to come spray our fruit trees. :)
ReplyDeleteIt's been a while since I made a dump cake. This one turned out really well with the unsweetened frozen fruit. I need to use up some of the frozen fruit to make room for this year's anticipated fruit. M takes very good care of my garden, doesn't he?
DeleteYour dump cake looks good.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Jean. It turned out well and since I used items I had in the freezer and pantry, it was a nice frugal treat, too. :)
DeleteThursday today and we visited our daughter this afternoon after she finished work at lunchtime. It was a lovely relaxing catch-up on all the news. We really enjoyed it. I had left a beef stew in the slow cooker for hubby so I did a couple of jacket potatoes in the air fryer when we got home. I had salad with mine. Yummy.
ReplyDeleteYour cake looks so tempting 🥰
Angie
Thank you, Angie.
DeleteSounds like you had a lovely visit with your daughter. Your dinner sounds wonderful, too. :)
Your dump cake looks delicious, dear friend!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Linda. I enjoyed it. :)
DeleteThat dump cake looks really good. Reminds me I have last year frozen fruit in my freezer, mainly strawberries and blueberries and apples, I was thinking of making jam, but that cake looks like a good idea. we dont have yellow cake mix, but I am sure that a sponge mix would do the job.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sharon. A sponge mix would definitely do the job and would, in fact, be better than the cake mix, I'm sure. :)
DeleteThe dump cake looks yummy! I was interested that you felt the need to remove a label that was irritating when wearing the t-shirt, because I remember my mother would have to fix labels and cover irritating seams on garments like nightdresses, and then one day I also found certain labels a problem and I also take them off. I think our skin gets thinner and less tolerant as we get older!
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bushlady. Both my mother and my daughter found labels to be irritating. I am now starting to find them irritating.
DeleteI'm not sure why I seem to be unable to reply individually to each comment! I shall try again, but, in the meantime, thank you everyone for commenting!
ReplyDeleteSounds like M has a good method for protecting your fruit tree trunks from those little monsters!
ReplyDeleteYour dump cake looks good. And a good use of your summer fruit.
Thank you, Debra. The wire mesh surround was actually my idea, but, he did the work. :D I'm enjoying my dump cake.
ReplyDeleteMy husbands favorites cakes are dump and slump cakes. They are so easy and comforting.
ReplyDeleteThey are easy to make and have become my "go to" dessert when I need something quick. :)
