| Moo: "I don't like this wet stuff, Lady" |
It rained all night on Tuesday and all day on Christmas Eve. Some roads and freeways flooded and there were mudslides and hundreds of accidents. It is supposed to rain all day on Christmas Day, too.
Daughter and I had been invited to join some friends of ours for Christmas dinner, but, after receiving two weather alerts and flood watch warnings, we took a "rain check" on the invitation! Especially since we saw on the news that the freeway and the intersection under the freeway that we would need to drive through to get to our friends' house were flooded and closed to traffic.
I hadn't planned anything for a special Christmas dinner at home, but, I can put together something and we'll plan a festive New Year's Day meal, instead.
M came to visit during a break in the weather (it was still drizzling, but, not raining hard), with a gift for us:

He offered to water the garden for me! Ha, ha! Very funny, M!
I had made waffles and sausages for brunch. At tea time, instead of tea, I made hot cocoa with the last of the whipped cream squired on top:

For dinner, I made some curry puffs:

- Our friends understood our reasons for declining their invitation to Christmas dinner
- Electricity (friend R called to say her power went off for several hours due to the storm)
- A working heater

Happy Christmas to you and your daughter. It's wise to stay home and safe from the flooding.
ReplyDeleteHappy Christmas to you, too, Celie. I hope you had a nice celebration with your friends. The rain stopped long enough for us to visit our friends for Christmas lunch, so it turned out well.
DeleteI hope the rain eases soon. It's probably a wise idea to stay home. Hope you and your daughter have a Happy Christmas
ReplyDeleteThank you, Sharon. I hope you, too, had a good Christmas, even though it was a difficult one for your family. The rain paused long enough for us to visit our friends for Christmas lunch, so that was good.
DeleteI heard on the news about your heavy rains. I think you are wise to take your rain check.
ReplyDeleteEspecially since the areas you would need to drive through are already flooding.
Yes, I am sure you will pull something together for some good food on this day. No one will go hungry in your home that's for sure.
You've got dessert covered with those delicious looking treats from M.
Merry Christmas to you and your daughter.
All the best to you both.
Thank you, Debra. Merry Christmas to you, too. In the end, the rains paused long enough to visit our friends for lunch. Especially after the younger daughter called my daughter to ask if we could still join them. I didn't have the heart to say no (this is my late friend A's family).
DeleteNot only did I not have to make lunch, another friend dropped off dinner, too! :D
Merry Christmas day to you and I hope you are always safe from the flooding and rains. And glad you kept the power on. Your food looks delicious. andrea
ReplyDeleteThank you, Andrea. Merry Christmas to you, too, and your loved ones. There was a pause in the rain today, but, I just read that over 100,000 households are without power!
DeleteYour cat 🐈 is adorable. I think you were right in postponing your invitation with weather like that. Your health and safety are the most important. The puff pastry triangles look and sound delicious 😋 your hot cocoa and whipped cream looks fantastic.
ReplyDeleteThe pastries and cakes also look wonderful.
Thank you, Linda. The rain stopped for a bit and I changed my mind and went to our friends' home for Christmas lunch, after all. :)
DeletePoor Moo! That is one bedraggled cat. The pastries look yummy and your curry puffs look very professional.
ReplyDeleteThank you, Bushlady. The pastries were delicious and the curry puffs turned out well (except the bottoms got a bit "over browned"!)
DeleteMoo looked thoroughly fed up about the wet stuff!
That is a drenched cat! Sounds like you made the best of the situation and had a cozy time at home.
ReplyDeleteThe garden cats have sheltered spots to avoid the rain, but, they still get wet when it rains for days. We did end up going to our friends' house on Christmas Day, but, I was ready to celebrate at home, if needed. :)
