Better on Tuesday

Torn Cardigan Sleeve

I developed a tear in the sleeve of my favorite cardigan.  I knitted this cardigan in 2002, I believe, so I am not surprised that it is tearing in places.  It is the same cardigan I mended back in February:  That time, there was a small tear in one of the front sides and I embroidered a flower bud to disguise the mending:

Embroidery to Disguise the Mending

This time, however, I just mended the hole with some darning with a contrasting color: visible mending.

Visible Mending

I went to sleep at an early for me time on Monday.  I kept waking up every so often and I would drink some water and go back to sleep each time.  I got about 9 hours of sleep altogether and when I finally woke up, my headache was gone.  I checked my blood pressure and it was normal.  I checked my sugar, too, and that was quite normal, too (below 100).

In the afternoon, I took daughter to her clinic to get her flu shot at the walk-in clinic they had set up and then, I dropped her off at home.  Then, I decided to go an get my flu shot, too, because my area is supposed to get some heavy rain on Wednesday and Thursday and there were flood warnings.  I didn't want to be driving around in the rain as roads and intersections in my neighborhood often get flooded when it rains.

So, I went to the pharmacy as a walk-in and received my flu shot with hardly any waiting.  Afterwards, I stopped to put gas into my car; $50 worth at $4.35 per gallon for unleaded.

I ate some garbanzo beans left over from the almsgiving for my brunch (daughter ate some chicken curry and leftovers).  For dinner, daughter treated us both to Japanese food from our nearby Japanese restaurant.  We ordered the food to go and picked it up, as we are still not eating out in a restaurant yet.

I am planning to go to bed at a more reasonable time tonight, too.

Today, I am grateful for:
- My headache went away
- My pressure and sugar levels were good
- The availability of flu vaccines
- The availability of gas for the car
- Daughter treating us to dinner

Today's joyful activity was enjoying some yummy food that I didn't have to cook!

Plans for tomorrow, Christmas Eve, include seeing gardener friend M before he takes a few days off over the holidays and hopefully making a batch of jam to give as holiday gifts.

How was your Tuesday?  What are your plans for Christmas Eve?

    1. Thank you, Sharon. I made sure to get 8 hours of sleep last night and everything seems to be fine this morning. That's my favorite cardigan, although I only wear it around the house (it's a bit big on me as I've lost some weight since I knitted it). It keeps me nice and warm.

  4. It seems like you were back to feeling like yourself. Rest is the great healer isn't it?
And you are smart to get your flu shot since your weather is predicted to be bad.
That was nice of your daughter to treat to the Japanese food.

    1. I'm feeling well, again, Debra. Yes, rest is good, especially after all the excitement of the almsgiving, etc. I'm glad I got my flu shot, on Tuesday. It's been raining, quite heavily at times, since last night and we've already had two emergency alerts about flooding. The garden is getting a nice soaking. :)

  5. It's Christmas Eve here and very cold 1C. We have our son, daughter and granddaughter staying until New Year so quite busy. Daughter has just put all the presents out along the fireplace ready for tomorrow. There's a pile from Father Christmas too for our granddaughter. I'm not doing much around the house while they are here just keeping up with the washing. Happy Christmas to you and your daughter x

  6. Glad you are feeling better. I'm home this Xmas eve, and having Christmas day dinner with friends. I'm going to my sister's on the weekend. Do keep safe with all the flooding. The news shows terrible pictures of it. I hope you and daughter have a joyous and restful Christmas.

    1. Thank you, Celie. I hope you've had a lovely Christmas and enjoyed getting together with friends for Christmas dinner. I hope you have a safe drive to your sister's. There has been some terrible flooding and mudslides, here, but the rain was not too bad, today, and we did go to our friends' house for Christmas lunch, after all.

  8. That cardigan is well worth mending! I have to have another go at my favourite wool gloves, as they have worn thin in another spot. I wonder how long I can mend them before the original fingers are no longer there!

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. My daughter calls it my "magic sweater" because I can be feeling cold one minute, put on the cardigan and feel warm after just a minute of wearing it. :D She tells me that I have to keep mending it because it is my magic sweater. :D I wonder how long you can keep mending your gloves?! At some point, it might require you knit new fingers from the bottom up!

  9. I am glad you are feeling better Bless. I hope you and your daughter have a marvelous holiday.
As for noticeable mending, if it is your favorite sweater, who cares if it is visible or not.

    1. Thank you, Anne. We did have a wonderful holiday. I think I'll be doing more visible mending on my sweater as I've just noticed that the cuffs are starting to unravel!
