Dancer's Battles

This Little Kitty...

This little kitty went to the vet's clinic, again.

Dancer has been battling fleas, again.  I had given him his flea prevention treatment at the end of September, but, we had to give him another treatment a week before the next treatment was due.  However, we've been noticing some tell-tale signs that the treatment hadn't been very successful.  I've been flea combing him daily and changing the sofa dust covers daily, too, and daughter has been spraying the house with indoor flea spray.  She even bought a different spray that is supposed to be stronger.  And we've been vacuuming daily as a precaution.

However, on Friday, we saw signs that he has tapeworms, again.  So, I woke up quite early on Saturday and called the vet clinic at 7:15 a.m.(they openat 7:00 a.m.) and made an appointment to bring him in at 12:30 p.m.  They wanted a stool sample and this time, I was able to collect the sample right away.

I gave him his sedative an hour before we left and I took him to the vet's clinic by myself as daughter was having a migraine.  Of course, he threw up.  But, I suppose I should be glad it wasn't worse!  He received a pill for the tapeworms (this time, the technician gave it to him) and had his nails trimmed. He's been sleeping it off ever since we came home.

Daughter was feeling better by the time Dancer and I came home from the vet's.  She vacuumed the house while I helped a little bit.  Then, I stripped my bed and did a load of laundry.  Daughter sprayed my mattress cover with the flea spray since Dancer sleeps on my bed at night.

I had a bagel with cream cheese for breakfast and both daughter and I had leftover Mexican rice for lunch.  I was summoning the energy to cook dinner, but, daughter ordered pizza as her treat.  There is something about dinner being delivered to my front door that appeals to me.  LOL.

I still need to make my bed with the sheets I washed and dried.  Then, maybe I'll go to sleep at a more reasonable time, tonight.  I had 4 hours of sleep last night and didn't take an afternoon nap.  I wonder if this will reset my internal clock and reset my up-side-down sleep schedule?

Today, I am grateful for:

- I was able to get Dancer in for a same day appointment
- The availability of medications and treatments for him
- Daughter helping with the vacuuming
- Working appliances
- A safe drive to the clinic and back

Today's joyful activity was knitting.

Plans for Sunday include some cardmaking and more flea control!

On the lookout for the enemy!

How is your weekend coming along?

    1. Dancer is an indoor cat, but, I guess we unknowingly bring fleas in from the garden cats and he gets them. I am hoping that the stronger flea prevention treatment will help.

  2. Poor Dancer. I hope he's since recovered from his ordeal, and that you manage to get on top of the flea situation.
I think I'll need to give Boo his flea treatment today - I've noticed that he's been scratching rather a lot over the weekend, and it's due this week, anyway. Then they both need their annual vaccinations, so have been booked into the clinic (on separate days) next week. X

    1. Thank you, Jules. He's back to being his vocal self this morning. I am going to pick up the stronger flea treatment medication from the vet's clinic on Monday and hopefully, that will help.
Oh, good luck with getting your two to get their vaccinations! Very wise of you to book them separately!

  3. Poor Dancer and poor you. I have dealt with fleas and tape worms before with my cats and it's no fun. At one point, we had to flea bomb the house to get rid of them totally. I didn't want to do it, but it worked.

    1. Thank you, June. I don't think this infestation is quite bad enough to flea bomb the house, but, we have discussed it. However, I think I need to spray the garden, again. The garden cats have fleas and I think we are unknowingly bringing the fleas or the flea eggs inside when we come into the house from the garden.

  4. Poor Dancer and poor you for having to deal with another vet visit and all the rest. Maybe try spraying for fleas outside too. They can be so hard to get rid of once you have them. I hope you were able to get some rest last night. Have a great Sunday!

    1. Thank you, Martha. Yes, we've been spraying the outside too, because I have stray cats in the garden whom I feed. But, I might have to get a professional pest control service to spray the garden, or use a stronger product!

  5. I'm so sorry Dancer has fleas and worms. Getting rid of fleas is a battle. I hope the meds work quickly. Professional spraying outside is a good idea.

  7. Oh no! Poor Dancer. Hope he feels better soon. It sounds as though you are doing everything you can to get rid of the fleas. I don't suppose the warmer weather you have helps.

    1. Thank you, Sharon. The warm weather is not helping! But, hopefully, the new medication I will be picking up from the vet's clinic will help rid Dancer of the fleas.

  8. Poor Dancer is just too attractive. The fleas obviously love him. I do hope you can get rid of them all. They must bother him.

    1. I know, Bushlady. I picked up the prescription strength flea treatment today and we shall see how that works. In the meantime, we are flea combing him daily and daughter is vacuuming daily, too.

  10. Fleas are awful to get rid of.
One thing we found helped was to plug a nightlight into a low level socket and put a saucer of water with a squirt of dish soap underneath. The soap breaks the surface tension of the water so any fleas bouncing towards the light fall in and drown. It didn't get rid of all fleas, but it really helped reduce the numbers.
Malevolent cat was allergic to flea bites and her lips used to swell up. We knew that there was an issue when she looked like she had had lip fillers gone wrong.

    1. Ooh, thank you for the nightlight idea! I usually have a nightlight on in my bedroom. It would be easy to put a bowl of water under it (and hope Dancer doesn't try to drink from it!) At this point in time, the fleas seem to be mostly on Dancer and not anywhere else, for which I am very thankful.
Oh, wow! I've never heard of a cat being allergic to flea bites! Poor Malevolent cat!

  11. Oh gosh. What an ordeal the flea thing is for both you and Dancer. Poor Kitty and Poor Bless.
I went through it once years and years ago with my dog and it's a battle.
Interesting idea from Lyssa with the dish of soap water. Let us know if it helps at all.
Good luck and I hope Dancer feels better soon.

    1. Thank you, Debra. I picked up a different flea treatment medication from the vet's clinic on Monday. It is prescription strength and we applied it to him on Wednesday. Hopefully, it will take effect soon.
