On the Second Day of the New Year

Today was a productive day!

I had just woken up and fed the cats, this morning, when Aunt C called for a chat.  Later in the morning, I did a load of laundry.  Then, I joined my daughter in doing an abs routine.  She is doing a 30-days abs routine, this month, and yesterday was the first day.  I joined her, then, too.  She did her routine at a higher level, while I did it at the beginner level.  Today's routine was 100 cross body crunches; I managed to do 60.  I am proud of that!

In the afternoon, daughter helped me to go through and declutter my closet!  She did most of the physical work of pulling everything out, asking me if it fitted, if I liked it, if I wanted to keep it, etc., and either putting the item back in the closet or putting into a big trash bag for donating.  I tried on a few items that I was not sure of and she helped me decide whether to keep them or donate.  She took 11 of the items for herself - 2 purses, 1 dress, 3 blouses, 3 skirts, the wig I wore when I had no hair (she will use it for one of her cosplay or Halloween costumes), and 1 knitted hat.  I need to alter the dress and one skirt for her; I'll do that tomorrow.  I had her put back the rest of the items with the hangers turned the other way.  As I wear each item, wash it, and return it to the closet, I will put them back with the hangers turned the regular way.  Some time in July or August, I will check the closet again and see if any hangers are still left, facing the other way.  If so, that will mean that those items were not worn since January, and I will probably donate them.  I didn't count the number of items she put into the bag to donate, yet, but, at last count, there were about 35 empty clothes hangers on the bed to be put away!

Later in the afternoon, I brought the trash cans in from the curb and put water to the front garden.  I also picked the last pomegranate that was left on the tree and removed the pips to share with my daughter:

Pomegranate Peel
Maybe a candidate photo for the winter photographic scavenger hunt, No. 9 Peel/Peeling?  I have another candidate photo for the same prompt, which was taken earlier today:

Tangerine Peels
Later in the evening, I washed the dishes and made fish rolls for dinner:

Fish Rolls
A bit like sausage rolls, but filled with a fish filling.  I made 32 of the rolls and froze half for my daughter to take back, with her.

After dinner, I called cousin N to check on her, because her mother had mentioned that cousin had sprained her foot over the weekend.  Cousin had been to the doctor's and has a boot to wear and some anti-inflammatory medication to take for the swelling.  We agreed to postpone our New Year's visit until she is feeling better.

Later, I oiled my daughter's hair and braided it, and she returned the favor.

I also called the vet's office, today, and made an appointment to take Dancer in for his various vaccinations and a check up:

"Oh, no!  Not the vet's!  I'll hide - they'll never find me here!"
Today, I am grateful for:
- Daughter helping me with decluttering my closet!
- Phone calls with aunt and cousin
- Fresh pomegranates from my tree
- Frozen puff pastry dough
- What I was able to accomplish today.

Thursday's To Do List:
- Alter the dress and skirt for daughter
- Change my bed sheets
- 1 load of laundry (bed sheets)
- Take Dancer to the vet's
- Get packages ready for mailing

How was your day, today?  How often do you go through and declutter your closet?  How do you decide what to keep and what to donate?  What are your plans for tomorrow?

  1. Well done on the crunches. I wouldn't be able to manage 60, let alone keep it up over the month.
My wardrobe is in desperate need of a good tidy, I even managed to 'lose' a pair of jeans in there over Christmas. Maybe tomorrow 😉

    1. Thank you, Jules. At one time, I used to take dance classes and aerobics and 100 crunches were no problem! But, yesterday was the first time in over 5 years that I did any crunches, so I was glad to be able to do 60. I thought I might be sore today, but I am not, so that's a good sign, isn't it?

I hope you find your pair of jeans!

  2. Sounds like a really busy day! That's quite an organised way to sort out your clothes.

    I love the photos!

    1. It was a good day; I ran out of energy towards the end and couldn't change the bed sheets, but that can be done, today. My daughter was very helpful with the closet sorting. I tend to rationalize keeping things, even when they don't fit too well or I don't like the style (usually, a gift from someone). But she encouraged me to donate those items. It was helpful to have another opinion about how I looked in certain clothes.

      Thank you! :)

  3. Great job on the closet. I go through mine about once a year and it's time again. I need your daughter to come here and help with it. :)

    1. Ha, ha, I'll tell my daughter that her help is needed by you! :D She was very helpful to me. She'd ask me questions such as, "Do you like this? Do you like how you look in it?" Plus, she did all the physical work of pulling things out and putting them back! I just sat on the bed and had to make decisions and try on a few items; that's all. She'd make a great personal organizer, I think.

  4. You most certainly did have a productive day.... exercising, baking, decluttering your closet, tending to the garden and personal care. I am waiting to hear how you will be feeling on day 3 of the New Year, after doing 60 abdominal crunches. Ha.

    1. I am pleasantly surprised, Susan. I thought I might feel sore, today, but I don't feel any soreness, at all! Maybe I didn't do the crunches, properly? Although my daughter checked to see how I was doing them and said I was doing them properly.

  5. I am impressed by your crunches. I need to begin some weight exercises, but not today.
Funny, I was in my closet last night trying to make decisions about what to keep and what to donate. Since I have been doing the keto thing my wardrobe has changed. I did a massive purge and got rid of all of my spring/summer clothes, then eliminated more than half of my fall/winter clothes. What is left are clothes that do not fit quite right, but are still wearable even though I do look a little frumpy most of the time. I have a charity truck coming for a Wednesday pickup and need to make some quick decisions about what I will actually wear vs. keeping it "just in case".

    1. Thank you, Anne. I need to keep up with the exercises, but daughter is keeping me accountable.

You did a great clothes declutter! I think I've a little more to do, but, I made a good start, yesterday. :)

  6. When I first started to scroll down onto the photo of Dancer, I thought it was going to be a picture of your braided hair. Then I wondered if Dancer had managed to have his tail hairs braided! 😻

I like both of your photos for peel/peeling but I think the one of the pomegranate is more exotic and has almost the quality of a still life painting.

    1. Ha, ha, Dancer wouldn't consent to having his tail hairs braided! Thank you; I think I will go with the pomegranate peels for the final photo for that prompt. :)

  7. In April of last year I decided to do Keto and I lost 45 lb down to my ideal weight of 112 lb. I'm 5 foot 2 1/2 in. The end result was that I had to get rid of every single thing in my closet because nothing fit anymore. And things were hard to give up but they looked absolutely awful on me. I looked like a little kid in grown-up clothes. I feel so good at my current weight now that it was all worth it. I love Keto. My daughter provided most of the funds to buy a whole new wardrobe. Daughters are wonderful aren't they?

    1. Congratulations on the weight loss, Marylynn! You certainly deserve to have a new wardrobe! I'm glad your daughter was able to provide the funds for you to treat yourself to new clothes. Yes, daughters are wonderful! :) Wish you all the best in the New Year, Marylynn; to your daughter, too.

  8. 60 cross body crunches! I'm very impressed.
One of these days I'm going to see how many I can do. My guess is probably 10. LOL

    1. Thank you, Nil. I'm sure you could do quite a few of them without any problem!

Today's challenge was to do 100 double leg lifts! Daughter had to push herself to complete 100 but I could only do 10! LOL! I compensated for that by doing 40 crunches and 10 of the arm exercises we did the first day (which are also meant to help tone the abs). My daughter said it was fine, that it all counted. :)

  9. Please will you send your daughter over to help with decluttering my clothes?

Wow, well done with the exercise. Will you keep it up when your daughter goes home?

Thumbs up to the WPSH photos, especially the pomegranate peel.

    1. Eileen, I told my daughter that you needed her there to help you with your clothes decluttering! :D It is so much easier to go through stuff with someone else to help!

I am hoping that I'll keep up with the exercises even when my daughter goes back. If nothing else, I'd like to just do the crunches (without all the different variations) and maybe build up to 100. But, having her here is motivating as she encourages me to do them.

Thank you; I think the pomegranate peel will be in the final selection. :)
