Daughter Comes Home on Thursday

My daughter came home for the Thanksgiving holiday, today!  She'll be home for 12 days, as she flies back on the Tuesday after Thanksgiving.

In the morning, I put away the washed dishes and the dried laundry.  I took the opportunity to tidy two shelves in the linen closet - the shelf where I keep all the bed sheets and pillowcases and the shelf where I keep the towels.  The bottom shelf and the top shelf need tidying.  I have quilts and some knitted items on the top shelf and crocheted table covers (made by my mother and my grandmother) and the dust sheets for the sofas on the bottom shelf.  It all needs straightening out.  I also remade my daughter's bed with fresh sheets and put the new cherry fabric pillowcases on her pillows.

In the afternoon, I drove to the airport to pick up my daughter.  She arrived a little after 3:00 p.m.  We picked up some Chinese food for a late lunch and came home.

After lunch, we went shopping at our favorite discount store.  They were having a 30% off sale because the store was closing!  I picked up two bathrobes to give as gifts (on sale for $5.59 each) and daughter found several items of clothing:

Daughter's Clothing Haul
She bought 3 dresses (top row - 1 floral, 1 black lace, 1 blue/grey print with long sleeves), two long skirts (bottom row, to the left - 1 blue/white print, 1 maroon & white "tie dye"), 2 sweatshirts and 1 knit top. 8 items of clothing and all for a total of $37 and some change.  The most expensive item was the floral dress at $7.  I need to alter it very slightly by moving the side zipper - a project I am planning to do, tomorrow.

After we came home, I made tea for us and daughter played the piano.

For dinner, I pulled out items from the freezer - two of the salmon steaks I had cooked and frozen, earlier, some rice, green beans, and cauliflower.  I reheated them with some of the soup I had made.  There were fresh raspberries for dessert.

Daughter liked the bottles of nail polish I had bought for her and, after dinner, she asked if she could paint my nails!  So, of course, I said, "Yes", and we played "nail salon"!  Apparently, "accent nails" are the fashion, these days - she painted my nails pink, with an "accent nail" (4th or ring finger) in dark purple!

Oh, and the house is nice and warm, because the first thing my daughter did after we came home from shopping was turn on the heater!  LOL.  It had been a warm day - it was 79F when I picked her up from the airport and she was in a short sleeved blouse, telling me how nice and warm it was, after Berkeley.  But, when we came back after shopping, it was almost 6:00 p.m., the sun had set, and she remarked on how cold the house was and turned on the heater!

Today, I am grateful for:
- My daughter is home for the holidays!
- She had a safe flight.
- She loves the cherry print pillowcases I sewed for her
- Bargains at the discount store
- A warm house!

    1. We do enjoy being together, Live and Learn. Neither of us have to be going places or doing something to have fun; just being together in the same room, doing our own things, but occasionally talking, is just as enjoyable. :)

  2. I hope you enjoy your time with your daughter! Mine comes on Saturday. She's driving as she's bringing her husky with her. It will be a long drive. I'm hoping the snow will have stopped by then so I don't worry too much! 79c sounds lovely. It just seems like yesterday that I was taking glorious Autumn photos, now everything is grey, cold and snowy. How quickly the weather changes!

    1. Thank you, Sharon. I hope your daughter has a safe drive home. Hope the roads will be clear and the weather nice, so she doesn't have to drive in the snow. That is a quick change in the weather, isn't it? Normally the first snow doesn't stay on the ground for long, does it? Hopefully, you'll have some lovely weather when your daughter is home.

    1. Yes, she did very well, didn't she? No, I didn't buy myself anything. I looked, but didn't find anything I liked and there's nothing I really need, as such.

  4. Your daughter is really going to miss her favourite discount store. Good thing she had the opportunity to find great deals in what may be her last shopping trip there. You also did very well finding those Christmas gifts. I am hoping that on your future shopping trips with your daughter, that you have continued good luck finding items for the rest of your Christmas gift list.

When will we see a photo of your manicure? It sounds as though the partying has already begun at your house. You guys have too much fun when you get together.

    1. We are going to miss that store, for sure, Susan. The cashier knows us because we go there all the time; she said to come back in 2 weeks' time because there will be deeper discounts then. But daughter will have gone back by then.

Ha, ha, I'll have to ask my daughter to take a photo of my nails, today! :D

  6. 8 items for $37 is such a great deal.
I too love to see your manicure. 😊
Once I saw one of my students had accent nails. Of course until I read your post I didn't know it was the style. I wondered why she had one nail in a totally different color. LOL I don't know much about the latest fashion trends. 😊

    1. I hadn't heard about the new style, myself, until my daughter did her nails and showed me. It looks a little strange to me, but she asked if she could do an accent nail for me, too, and I said OK. :)

  7. I can almost feel your joy at having your daughter home once more.
I chuckled at the nail painting, as Lily is insistent I paint hers again, the existing colour having worn off.
Enjoy your precious time together. X

    1. Giving each other "beauty treatments" used to be a fun thing to do when she was small and it continues. :) I think we might do a facial and a pedicure before she leaves. Hope you paint Lily's nails for her; one day, when she's older, she might return the favor and do your nails for you!

  8. What a successful day, I am happy for you both.

We have lots of snow! No longer can I hope that it might just go away for a few weeks. I shouldn't really be surprised at the weather, as it has been kinder than last year. At least we morphed into winter more gradually. Last year around the same time, we went from no snow, to so much snow overnight that we couldn't get out in the morning, and with a power outage as well. I consider us more fortunate this year, and it does look beautiful and bright after the sad appearance when the leaves were gone.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. Sounds like winter has arrived in your area! As far as I am concerned, snow is best viewed from inside a warm house! :D
