Memorial Day Monday

Monday was Memorial Day in the US; a day to remember those who died while serving in the armed forces and a holiday.

I woke up a couple of hours before daughter and spent a relaxed morning, having my coffee, going online, checking my mail and blog comments, etc., while waiting for her to get up.  I also put away the dried dishes from last night.

Later, we went shopping for shoes, but, although we went to two stores, we didn't find what we wanted.  She needs a pair of high heeled strappy silver sandals to wear with the sari and I would like a new pair of dressy shoes but I can't wear heels anymore, so they'll have to be flats.  So, she will shop for shoes up in Berkeley, and I will shop for my pair, down here, between now and July when the weddings are scheduled.

In the afternoon, we drove to my friend A's house.  My daughter and my friend's two daughters had made plans to go and see a movie and I had been invited to stay and visit with A, her husband, and her mother who is visiting from Sri Lanka until the girls came back from the movie.  We had tea and cake while we visited and chatted.  Later, after the girls came back from the movies, I got up to leave, but my friend asked us to stay and have dinner, they will order pizza.  Since we hadn't planned anything for the evening, I said OK.  So, we had pizza and egg salad sandwiches which A made while we waited for the pizza to be delivered.  It was a pleasant afternoon and evening spent in the company of friends.

Daughter had wanted me to trim her hair, so I did that after we came home.  Then, she made us a cup of tea and now, we are relaxing, she on her computer, I on mine!

Cousin P had called and left a message while we were out, so I called her back and left her a message!  Later, she called back, to give me the funeral information.  It will take place on Saturday morning.  My cousin said her daughter will drive her and they can give me a ride.

On Monday, I was grateful for:
- A relaxed morning
- An afternoon and evening spent in the company of good friends
- An invitation to stay to dinner
- An offer of a ride to the funeral
- A sunny, warm day

Tuesday's To Do List:
- Take daughter to the airport by noon
- Tidy the house
- Do a load or two of laundry
- Put water to the garden
- Paperwork

How was your weekend?  What are your plans for the week ahead?

  1. Now that I'm on vacation I forget what day it is. :)
So every day is like a weekend.

Do sari shops sell accessories and shoes? If so they should have shoes appropriate for saris.

    1. That is just what vacations are supposed to feel like, Nil! Hope you are having a great time.

The shops we went to had some accessories, but, mostly costume jewelry type of accessories, not shoes. However, we could have looked for a shoe store and seen if they had any suitable shoes, but, we didn't think to do that! Poor planning on our part!

  2. I wonder if you sleep better when your daughter is in the house since you got up early? Good luck shoe shopping. That's something I don't like doing because my feet aren't happy in most of them.

    1. I am still going to sleep in the wee hours of the morning (my daughter stays up, too), but the difference is, I don't have to wake up as early as I do when going to work. So, I guess, I am getting more sleep when she is home.

Thanks! Why is it so hard to find a pair of shoes that is both stylish and comfortable? I mostly wear sneakers, these days, even to the office, as they are comfortable! But they won't "do" for a formal occasion!

  3. Even though it was a long holiday weekend, it sure did whip by incredibly quickly. It seems she just arrived and already you are taking her back to the airport. But it sounds like you had a great weekend, and so did your daughter. She got to go out on her own a couple of times. Sometimes a change of routine is BETTER than a rest.

    1. The long weekend went by too quickly! Daughter and I were just talking about it! But, yes, we did have a good weekend and we spent some time with each other, and she got to do a couple of fun things with some of her friends, and we got a couple of big things crossed off our to do list! We are already looking forward to her next visit home, which will be in July! She'll come down twice, then - for the 4th of July week and again, towards the end of the month to attend the weddings. :)

    1. Thanks, Sharon. Her flight is this afternoon, so I haven't taken her to the airport, yet. But, so far, her flight seems to be on schedule. :)
