Summer on Monday!

Today, we had a day of summer!  The high today was 95F!  But, my house retained the coolness from last night and I was in sweat shirt, sweat pants, and socks, the whole day!

I had a fairly relaxed morning.  I made a couple of phone calls I needed to make and then, called a friend I hadn't spoken with in awhile and left a message.  In the afternoon, I washed the dishes - some by hand and the rest in the dishwasher.  I also scrubbed the sink, the stove top including under the burners, and wiped the counters.  I noticed something had dripped down one or two of the lower cabinet fronts, (I love my white cabinets, but they show every spot and splash!) but I will wash the cabinet fronts another day.

I also did two loads of laundry and hung them up to dry.  I debated doing my bed sheets, but I think I will wait and do them another day.

In the evening, I took the trash cans out and watered the front garden.

After that, I did a little cooking:

Chicken, potatoes, and broccoli

Inspired by my daughter, I cooked - honey/Dijon mustard/tomato-basil-garlic seasoned broiled chicken drumsticks, Southwestern Chipotle seasoned fried potatoes, and just plain steamed broccoli because, by then, I was tired and couldn't be bothered to make a fancy broccoli dish!  LOL!   The last of the strawberries for dessert.

I didn't cook the ground beef, however.  When I mentioned it to daughter, she said to stop the negativity right there!  But I told her that I was not being negative, just stating a fact!  The ground beef will be cooked, tomorrow.  I will take a sandwich for my lunch, tomorrow.

Today, I am grateful for:
- A warm summer day!
- A working dishwasher
- A working washing machine
- A productive day
- A tasty dinner (and leftovers for another couple of meals)

How was your Monday?  Is it warming up where you are?  Or, like Sharon in New Zealand, are you getting ready for winter?

  1. Cold weather keeps rearing its ugly head here. One day I will be in shorts and flip flops and the next day I need pants and a sweater. I am ready for summerlike temps.
Your meals sounds good and the ground beef will keep till tomorrow (at least I hope it will!)

    1. Yes, we are supposed to go back down to the 60s by tomorrow. It keeps fluctuating until much later. I will brown the ground beef and freeze it until I am ready to make whatever I am making with it!

  2. 95 and still in sweat pants! Your house must have some good shade around it.

    1. Live and Learn, very little shade other than the eucalyptus tree in front. It's just that the house stays cool and I feel cold!

  3. Everything looks delicious, Bless.

Today is is very rainy here. But yes, the temperatures are starting to climb. We're still in the 80s though. I remember that when my mom and grandmother came to visit back in 1994 right after I had Oldest Son (whose birthday is this week), our temps had climbed into the high 90s! They were so miserable.

    1. Thank you, Nathalie. We could do with some of your rain, over here! Our temperatures are fluctuating - in the 80s, today, supposed to be in the 60s tomorrow.

  5. Isn't it hard to clean the burners on a gas stove - one chore I duslike.

Your chicken, potatoes and broccoli look delicious. Agree about being grateful for all the time saving appliances we have today. Still cold today but a BIG warm up coming tomorrow with strong winds.

How did your first day in the new building go?

    1. Sandy, my stove has black "burner protectors" which I put in the dishwasher. Then, I spray the stove with my homemade citrus cleaner, which is vinegar which I have infused with orange peels. I let it sit for about 20 minutes and that helps to soak whatever has spilled and burnt and makes it easier to wipe up the area under the burners.

The first day in the new building went very well, thank you. I spent part of the morning unpacking and setting up my work space; many of my colleagues were doing the same.

  6. Sigh. I wouldn't want it that hot but I'd like to be done with the snow lol. I can't wait until I can actually just hop outside without being all bundled up in long undies, hat and gloves.

    1. Sharon, I hope it warms up quickly for you. I remember those days of bundling up to just collect the mail or throw the garbage!

  7. That meal looks so yummy! I was going to do something with mince tonight, but I have some chicken drumsticks that were on special this week so might do something similar and just brown the mince and freeze it, yes I know I am a copy cat! Lol.

    1. LOL, Sharon, I am always getting ideas for meals from what others are making! I browned the ground beef, today, and will freeze some of it.

Glad you were able to shop for clothes, today, and had fun doing so. You'll have to post some pictures, so we can see what you bought. :) Keep warm!

  8. SOS! Please send some heat up here! It's over a week into April and we have had snow and are predicted lots more snow next weekend. I'm hoping that the meteorologists are just winding us up! Time will tell.

    1. I'll do my best, Bushlady. Today's temperatures were a little cooler - high of only 72F, but we are supposed to warm up to the 80s on Saturday.

  9. It is 5 degrees Celsius and raining....again. (April showers?) Well, I shouldn't complain because it is supposed to turn to ice pellets and then blowing snow tonight and tomorrow. I have postponed my trip to Elliot Lake yet again until Tuesday. Elliot Lake had another huge snow storm yesterday and North Bay is supposed to be hit hard this weekend. I just got my snow tires changed this past Wednesday....drat. Winter is holding on with its icy embrace. Okay Bless, I want to hear how you would turn that into a gratitude? I am not as practiced as you.

    1. Brr! That is cold! I remember how tired I'd get of snow and cold by April, when I lived in Wisconsin, and my mother would say it was in the 70s or 80s in California, so I understand what you say! Hm, the biggest gratitude would be - you weren't already on the road without snow tires when the storm hit. Additional gratitudes: you have a few more days in which to prepare for the trip; hopefully, you'll have lovely weather when you do travel; and rain for the garden (and the snow, when it melts, will also provide more water for the garden). How's that? :)

  10. That's very good. I knew you would have a way to turn this into something positive. I wasn't traveling on those roads is the greatest gratitude of all. We got lots of freezing rain and ice pellets, and it is still coming down. My trip will be postponed for even more days this week....maybe Thursday?

    1. I am glad you are home, safe and dry and, hopefully, warm! Hopefully, there will be lovely weather later this week and you can take your trip safely, without having to drive on icy roads. Hope you've had a good weekend, Susan.
