January Balanced Goals - Update

Spiritual:  The goal is to live a spiritually meaningful life.
- Continue with daily prayers and gratitude; focus on being positive - I have been praying daily and trying to be positive.
- Take time for meditation - I have been meditating during walks, while waiting at the doctor's office, when I say my prayers, etc.
- Cultivate non-attachment  - declutter 3 items/day - Did so during the month and decluttered 100 items.
- Attend the monthly prayer gathering, if possible - Did so on 1/13
- Also, attended a special service at the temple, during which 1,000 candles were lit in an offering of light, followed by the chanting of blessings, etc.
Environment:  The goal is a clean, tidy, uncluttered house and a well-maintained garden.
House
- Focus on decluttering and maintaining cleaned areas - I was able to get the house cleaned to a certain degree and the cleaned areas have been maintained for the most part.  I decluttered 100 items, plus daughter decluttered two huge bags of items from her closet and dresser drawers.
Garden:
- Maintain
 - succulents cuttings were planted
 - 2 grape vines were planted
Daughter:  The goal is to continue to have a close relationship with her.
- Continue to enjoy her visit during the first week of January - Had a wonderful visit with her
- Daily texts, phone calls, emails , and video chatting when she goes back - Have been doing so and she has been sharing her weeks in drawing with me which I have posted.

Family & Friends:  The goal is to keep in touch with various family members and friends.

- Call, email, and send belated New Year greeting cards to family and friends - Did so, although I didn't send as many cards as I had planned to.

- Weekly calls with neighbor T - Spoke with her on 1/1, 1/7, and 1/14; called to check on her on 1/16 as well since she is recovering from stomach flu, and on 1/28

Community:  The goal is to become more involved in my community
- Finish knitting the hats for newborns for the Heart Association - I made what I could for this year; I will be making more for next year.
- Visit neighbor S- Visited her on 1/7 and had lunch with her and her daughters and exchanged gifts
- Continue to participate in the blogging community - On-going

Career:  The goal is to continue to do work which I enjoy (for the most part) and which enables me to support myself.
- Continue to do my assignments in a timely manner - I think I am doing well with this.
Finances:  The goal is financial security.
- Continue budgeting and spending mindfully, with purpose - prepare a new budget for January - Did so; budgeting and spending mindfully is on-going; came under budget on the grocery budget.

Health & Well Being:  The goal is good health.
- Attend the appointments with my various medical doctors - Saw primary care PA on 1/16; saw the doctor on 1/29 for pre-ops; did the chest x-ray on 1/31
- Continue to go for additional screening tests, as needed - did so - blood tests, EKG, chest x-ray
- Continue to monitor blood pressure, sugar levels, and weight - On-going; blood pressure has been under control with medications; blood sugar levels have been under control and my medication levels have been reduced in half; my weight has been fluctuating (I lost 40 lbs. during my treatment but have regained some of it with the return of my appetite), but I am hoping it will eventually settle at a weight that will be both healthy and sustainable.
- Continue to focus on a healthier diet (more vegetables!), drinking enough water, exercising regularly, and getting sufficient sleep - In progress; have been trying to eat better and drink my water; but still not getting sufficient sleep!
- Focus on accomplishments - FOCUSING

Time Management:  The goal is having enough time to do all what I want to do!
- Procrastinate less - Ha!  Easier said than done!
- Implement routines and schedules - A work in progress!

Leisure/Crafts/Hobbies/Me-Time:  The goal is to relax doing something I enjoy doing for the pleasure of it.

- Knit my grey sweater - I need to get back to knitting it.
- Finish my Mountain Climbing quilt! - Work in progress!

  1. You are so detailed and exact about all areas of your life 😊

If you are comfortable talking about the daily work you do I'd be interested in hearing about it and how you came to accept your position.

You put most of us to shame with what you get done.

    1. Ha, ha, I have always described myself as being "detail-oriented", especially when I've interviewed for jobs! :D

It has come in handy, especially when I worked as a proof reader, when I worked in accounts receivable, when I processed medical billing and workers' compensation requests for payment, when I did payroll, when I had to measure square footage of open space/recreation areas on plot plans to verify the numbers were accurate when I had to calculate payments and when I administered a $20,000,000 budget and had to account for it to the penny. :)

I currently work in the environmental field, preparing, reviewing, and analyzing environmental documents for various projects. A lot of reading (I just finished reading a 600+ page report for a project I am working on), some writing, a lot of keeping up with current environmental legislation, dealing with various people, meetings, and, yes, deadlines as people want their documents processed yesterday even though they can't get it to you until tomorrow! :D

    1. Thank you! I tried to be positive! There were a couple of areas where I started out writing, "I didn't go as much as I wanted to" and then, had to go back and change it to write what I was able to do and leave out the rest! :D

  3. I can see you're making progress in all areas. Does it seem that way to you?

    1. Live and Learn, what I see is that I continue to do well in certain areas (Spiritual, for example); better in some areas (Health, for example - I am really pleased that I have been taking the time to incorporate that daily walk), and not a whole lot of progress in other areas, especially Time Management and Leisure.

I can come up with a 101 reasons why I didn't do certain things, but it all boils down to one or two main reasons: I didn't have/make the time and I was tired/didn't have the energy/motivation.

No doubt I am trying to do too much! So what else is new, right? :D

But I will keep at it. :)

  4. What a good month! As I get older and older I have learned to cut myself some slack when goals have to move beyond my anticipated date

    1. Anne, I've been thinking maybe I should reword some of my specifics to "work on" instead of "finish"! :D And consider 15 minutes a day or week, depending on the task, as achieving that goal! :D

  5. I'm glad you feel it was a good month. You continue to amaze me with your positive attitude, you are an inspiration. I often worry you put a lot of pressure on yourself to meet your goals, when in fact, you put me to shame with your achievements. X

    1. Aw, Jules, that's a lovely thing to say! Thank you! Believe me, when I was writing up the update, I found myself starting off many sentences with "I didn't do as much as I wanted to", which, according to my daughter, was being negative! So, I went back and reworded. The hats, for example - as many as I was able to, instead of, I didn't do as many as I wanted to! :D A positive spin on things! I should work in advertising! :D

  6. Wow - you are really detailed with your goals! I love seeing all you've attempted and accomplished. It gives me hope to keep going with my goals though I don't seem to achieve half as much as you. Well done! I like how positive you are about your goals.
