Thursday's Doings

I had a relaxed morning, today, as I am in full vacation mode!  I replied to comments on my blog, read other blogs and commented on them, etc.

Today, my daughter showed me how she does sudoku puzzles and I had a go at one, myself.  But I couldn't explain to her how I arrived at the numbers!  She does them very logically; I, on the other hand, was guessing or going with an intuitive feeling, and it was driving her crazy!  LOL!

Later in the evening, we went for a walk together, and this time, we walked for the full 30 minutes.  I still slow down towards the last 10 minutes, or so, but I think that's OK.   This time, the route we took was just over 1 mile. I am going to try to continue walking 1 mile, every day.

I called one of my cousins this evening, to remind her that her Christmas gift from our friend who hosted the December prayer gathering is still here - I had given it to cousin on January 1, but she left it in my car, saying she'll collect it later in the evening, and I guess she forgot!

One of my aunts called, too, to ask me if I knew about the 4.4 earthquake in Berkeley, this morning.  It had happened early in the morning, but daughter is down here, so she didn't experience it.  The Hayward Fault goes right below Berkeley (it runs under the Berkeley campus and its football stadium!); there have been a cluster of small quakes, recently, but of course, no one knows if they are a forecast of a big one to come!

I had daughter put away the Christmas china, today.  Although I took it down, it wasn't used!  Now I am wondering if I even need the set, but I'll keep it for another year.  I actually have two sets of Christmas china - a set of 8 for the big dining table and a set of 4 for the small dining table - both of which were gifts from my mother.  We've used them in previous years, but not this year.   Tomorrow, I plan to put away the few other decorations I put out, this year.

Today's decluttering included:

1/4 Decluttering
- 1 black skirt I bought years ago but never wore as it was too tight at first, felt too short to wear to the office (although it was knee length - I like my skirts to be longer), and is now too loose!
- 1 old wallet (daughter bought me a new one)
- 1 old pocket planner
- 1 empty tissue box

Today, I am grateful for:
- Another day of vacation
- Relaxing and enjoying daughter's company
- Learning to do sudoku
- Being able to go for a 1 mile walk with daughter
- Keeping in touch with family and friends (phone calls with aunt and cousin; email with friend)

Today, I said my daily prayers, meditated, was grateful and positive, and cultivated non-attachment by adding a garment to the donations pile (spiritual), did my daily decluttering and took out the kitchen trash (environment), learned how to do sudoku from daughter and went out for a walk with her (daughter), spoke on the phone with a cousin and an aunt (family), exchanged emails with a friend (friends), participated in the blogging community by reading and commenting on blogs and posting blog posts of my own (community), checked my blood sugar levels, etc., walked for 30 minutes, drank my 8 glasses of water, and had three servings of fruits and vegetables (health), enjoyed another day off from work (career), received a reminder about organizing my tax documents from the tax preparer (finances), prepared a To Do list (time management), relaxed, completed a sudoku puzzle, read, and enjoyed my day (Leisure).  By doing these things, I worked on my goals and touched on all the areas of my life that are important to me.

I am going back to posting a To Do list, because tomorrow is my last day of vacation and I want to get a few things done before I go back to work, next week.

Friday's To Do List:
- Take down and put away the remaining holiday decorations, including the cards
- Pay the gas bill
- Pay the water and power bill
- Grocery shop for milk, fresh produce, cat food
- Discuss garden plans with gardener friend M
- Take daughter to spend the evening with her friends
- Pick up daughter and bring her home
- Do a load of laundry (my bed sheets)
- Remake my bed with the flannel sheets
- Dusting and vacuuming
- Clean the litter box
- Go for another 30 minute walk
- Maybe visit neighbor S (if she is free)

That should keep me busy and out of trouble!

How was your Thursday?  What are your plans for Friday?

  1. Enjoy your last day of vacation. I'm back in the work grind, but it's good to have a routine to the day again.

  2. I heard about the earthquake and was wondering how your daughter fared because I had a brain fart and forgot she was still at home with you! I'm glad she missed it.

Sudoku is not for me. I don't like numbers and math and only deal with them when I HAVE to, and certainly not for fun. I do hear that it's a good way to exercise your brain as you get older, so I suspect that I'll probably have to at least try it. But honestly it sounds like pure torture. So good for you to have tried it and, I'm guessing, been successful at it!

And great job on not only walking the full 30 minutes but also decluttering a little more!

    1. Thank you, Nathalie. I am dreaming of the day when I, too, can go on those 6-7 mile hikes you do!

Sudoku definitely makes you think! I, too, don't like math, but it is good brain exercise, from what I have read. So, I want to try, because, well, I find myself being forgetful at times and something that makes me think is probably a good thing!

  3. Have a great last vacation day!
My extra set of sheets for my bed is now beyond salvage so I am headed today to purchase a new set of flannel ones in addition to a regular set. I know this cold wave will be over soon, but I want warm bedding before the next cold snap.

    1. Thank you, Anne. I haven't even started work, yet, but I am already looking forward to next weekend (13/14) because, with the 15th being a holiday and the 16th another day off for me (I work a biweekly schedule where I work 9 9-hr. days during the 2 week period and get the 10th day off), I get a 4-day weekend! Not to mention a shorter work week, the following week. I do have a doctor's appointment scheduled for the 16th, but, even so, it will be a nice break!

  4. Good for you learning how to do Sudoku. I can't do it, or I should say I don't enjoy it. I also don't enjoy jigsaw puzzles or word finds. I would much rather do crossword puzzles. I think any kind of puzzle activity is great for the brain and a way to relax.

Look at you accomplishing all facets of your goal building. I would be happy to do one thing on my list. Way to go.

    1. I love crossword puzzles and carry one around with me in my tote bag, in which I take my lunch to the office. I like word finds, too, and jigsaw puzzles. But sudoku is more challenging, I think. :)
