Friday After Thanksgiving

No Black Friday shopping, here. Actually, I have nothing against Black Friday shopping, but I don't like shopping when it is so crowded and frantic.  That kind of excitement is a bit too much for me, especially these days.  Also, there's not much that I want to buy.  Yes, I want to buy a new washer and dryer, but I can wait a bit longer to buy them.

It was another, hot, summer-like day, here.  In the morning, I did some knitting.  The sweater is coming along, slowly.  I joined the shoulders and did the ribbing around the neckline.

In the afternoon, I played chauffeur to daughter and her friend.  They had made plans to see a movie and her friend was going to pick up daughter, but something happened to the friend's car so, daughter asked if I could drive them.  Daughter couldn't drive herself and her friend because I've taken her off my car insurance while she is away from home since she doesn't need to drive me from chemo treatments, anymore.  So, I drove daughter to her friend's house to pick her up, then, drove them both to the movie theater, drove home for a couple of hours, then, drove to pick them up from the movie theater, dropped her friend off, and drove back home!

In between driving them around, I knitted a bit more (started on the first sleeve), watched some TV, watered the front garden (several days of 90F+ weather and the garden is parched!), ate a piece of pumpkin pie, and tidied the dining table.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Another warm, summer-like day
- A reliable car
- Daughter is able to get together with some of her friends
- Time to knit and to relax
- Leftovers for dinner

How was your day?  Did you go Black Friday shopping?  If so, did you get some good bargains?

  1. No BF shopping for me either Bless. Same as you the thought of all those crowds fills me with horror. Still did my usual shop with mum in the local shopping centre though which was No different than usual thank goodness.

Amy is having driving lessons but as she's away to university next year she won't go on our car insurance either. Not least because it's ridiculously expensive for youngsters. We could be talking well over £1,000!!

Hope DD enjoyed the film. Xx

    1. Glad the local shopping center wasn't too crowded, Suzanne. Yes, it cost me about $2,000 to insure my daughter; it was worth it when she was coming down practically every weekend to take me for my treatments, but not now, as she's down only 4 or 5 times for the year. She doesn't have a car up at Berkeley and doesn't drive when she's up there. She loved the movie - it was the latest Marvel comics movie.

  2. I have never understood 'must do my Christmas shopping' on what us now called Black Friday. I like a bargain but certainly not under those conditions.

What movie did your daughter and her friend see? Does she recommend?

Yes we had a lovely Thanksgiving with all the usual foods here in sunny/hot San Diego. We missed last year due to health issues. So good to spend time with our youngest son who has now lived here for 14 years. Where did the time go!

Tomorrow will visit Ocean Beach and eat some delicious fish. Up early as I have not adjusted to the time change. Gives me time to read a few blogs.

    1. Sandy, so glad you were able to enjoy your Thanksgiving with your youngest son. I know you are not a fan of hot weather, but, store up that sunshine for the cooler, darker days of winter. :)

Daughter and her friend went to see the latest Marvel comics movie (can't remember the name). She thought it was both sweet and funny, but told me I probably wouldn't have liked it due to all the "action" (I was invited to watch the movie with them, but I declined). It might be something your grandsons might enjoy, if they like the Marvel comics and characters.

  3. Very nice of you! When one of our kids was in a military academy for college, he wasn't home more than a month out of the year. So I called our State Farm insurance agent and explained that we were paying for him on our car insurance and it seemed unfair for just a month and a couple of days that he might use our car for holidays (and we were paying an extra $60/month for him). They said I could take him off as you could have him covered as a guest driver as insurance in on the car, not the driver. Andrea

    1. Yes, the insurance agent said I could reinstate her when she comes down for the holidays, just for the duration of her visit, but she usually manages to get about by bus or her friends give her rides, so I'm not inconvenienced that much. I might consider getting insurance coverage for her over Christmas, since she'll be here for two weeks.

    2. I don't know if my other comment made it as blogger said it didn't load. I will try to re-write it. I meant State Farm said the car is automatically covered by anyone who might drive it. Such as if a neighbor or your child borrowed your car. The coverage follows the car, not the person. Of course we bought coverage for all our children for all the years until they finished a regular college. But then, this child who went to a military college, which doesn't give much leave for him to come home, and he would only use our car a couple times a year, State Farm said we could drop him as he would still be covered as anyone else who would borrow our car on a very limited basis. They said there was no need to add him onto our insurance. Andrea

    3. Andrea, thank you for explaining it in more detail. I have insurance through the Auto Club (AAA); I will check the coverage I have with them and call them to ask for clarification. It maybe that my daughter might still be able to borrow the car! Of course, she doesn't like to drive, but that's a different problem, isn't it? :D

    4. Hi! It is worth looking into. I wish I would've looked into it earlier as I had paid for the first 3 years of this son's insurance while he was in the military college...of course different states might have different laws also. Andrea

    5. Yes, I will check into it. :)

    1. Glad you got some Christmas shopping done, Judy. Definitely not as fun when the kids just want money, but it means less shopping to be done.
