Slow Thursday

I've had a fairly slow day, today.

Last night, before I went to sleep, I double checked my calendar and I realized that the podiatrist's appointment was scheduled for next week, Thursday, not today!  But, it was scheduled for the same afternoon as the follow-up dental appointment, just two hours apart!  That's not enough time for me to go from one appointment at one end of town to another at the other end of town, especially if there was a delay at the first appointment or slower than usual traffic on the freeway!  So, I called the podiatrist's office, this morning, and rescheduled the appointment for the following week, as I didn't want to reschedule the dental appointment.

I went to the office today, but decided not to go to the farmers market.  I thought it would be too much to have a croissant on top of yesterday's hamburger and sundae!

I dozed a bit on the sofa after I came home.  Cousin P's phone call woke me up and after we chatted for a bit, I called neighbor E to tell him my decision to go with a regular water heater.  He said he will be able to install it on Saturday, but he wasn't able to tell me what time.  I said it was fine, whenever he could spare the time would be fine with me.

Then, I called cousin P to let her know that I needed to be at home on Saturday as neighbor E was installing the water heater then, and, will not be able to go to the funeral, in case she was counting on riding with me.  I suggested she asked one of our other cousins for a ride, but she said there won't be room for her.  I am sorry I am not able to give her a ride, but getting the new water heater installed is kind of important to me - I am not that fond of cold showers!

Later in the evening, I watered the front garden and video chatted with my daughter.

Today, I am grateful for:
- My eye and tooth are feeling better, today
- I was able to reschedule my podiatrist's appointment
- A safe drive to the office and back
- A drive through the park on the way to and from the office
- A cool evening after a rather warm day

Plans for tomorrow include going to the office and maybe a trip to the bank.

How was your Thursday?

  1. Is you neighbor going to pick out and deliver your hot water heater for you or do you have to have it there by Saturday when he's ready to install it?

    1. He will pick it out and deliver for me, he said. I wouldn't know one water heater from another, all I know is I want one the same size as what I now have, but I could go to one of the store websites and take a look. I asked him how much he wanted for installing it and he just said he will do it for me. I will, however, give him something.

  2. I'm glad to see you putting your needs first :) And also that you didn't drive all the way to the podiatrist for nothing! Good luck with the water heater. Is your neighbor going to go get it at the store for you too or will you go together?

    1. Thank you, Nathalie. I felt a bit guilty, but I really do need my water heater and since, my neighbor is more or less doing me a favor (he doesn't want to charge me for it, but I will give him something), I need to be available when he has the time to work on it. He said he can get the heater for me (he has a van). I could go with him, if he wants me to, but most probably, I'll just give him the money to buy what is needed.

  3. It is not your responsibility to provide transportation for cousin P - your first responsibility is to yourself and that means being available when your wonderful neighbor man is available to replace your water heater. It is a given that you would have given cousin P a ride under different circumstances. Do not give this a second thought.

Thursday my youngest son arrived. It is so good to see him again. He has a good flight but he was hot and tired. He is 6' 2" and you really are crammed into the small seats. We had our usual first night meal of IMO's pizza (which is peculiar/speciality of St.Louis) and chicken wings, plus salad. This is similar to my tradition of having fish and chips on my first night back on British soil. He then went out with a long time friend who lives locally. Tonight he is meeting up with one of his old college mates who is driving 2 hours to see him. I do hope he has a fabulous time.

So much to be grateful for.

    1. Thank you, Sandy. :)

So glad your son had a safe flight home! Sounds like he's having a good time catching up with friends. Much like when my daughter comes home for a visit! If we are lucky, we get to see them for half an hour in between them getting together with friends! LOL.

  4. Always good to double check appointments! I can tell stories of showing up with a bottle of wine for the wrong day for a dinner party, and a friend did the same thing, or realizing that an appointment is not the next day, as you did.

I wish I could sent you some of our rain. I did get some yard work done this morning, but in the afternoon a storm arrived and plenty of downpour to go with it. I was in town and decided that it would be more fun to shelter in the Charity Shop before the rain eased than to hang out in the grocery store! I only came away with one book in the end, but it was fairly quiet and at least I had a good look round without it being crowded.

    1. A charity shop sounds like the perfect place to wait out a rain storm! Much better than the grocery store! You did well to come out with only one book!

  5. I'd go with the water heater too lol. Dont think I could stand too many cold showers!

    1. Yes, but those cold showers are very good for conserving water, as you are in and out in no time flat!

  6. Since stye results from staphylococcal bacteria, I encourage you to make constant use of the waterless hand cleaner at reception at medical offices and pharmacies on arrival and departure. There are so many people likewise touching surfaces; you are more susceptible in recovery mode.
Did anyone talk to you about special hair care particularly in hotter weather?

I'm looking forward to your crafting, baking, Buddhism, SL culture, preserving, gardening, budgeting sharing.

    1. Hon, thank you for the reminder to use the hand sanitizers. One of the first things I do when I get to the office or return home is wash my hands with soap and water, but the hand sanitizers in between is a good idea.

No, nobody has said anything about special hair care. I just shampoo when I shower and that's all.

Thank you; I will be sharing my crafting very soon as I complete my projects. No baking in sight, yet, as it is too hot to turn on the oven! Hope all is well with you as you continue to recover from your own health challenges.

  7. So nice of your neighbor to do that for you! What a blessing he is. It's not a super easy job for one person ... especially moving the old one ... they tend to be heavy as I recall. Know you'll be thrilled to have hot water again!

    1. Yes, Carolyn, it is a blessing my neighbor was able to install the new water heater for me. It is lovely to have hot water on tap, again. :)

  8. I've been having a catch up with your posts and am happy to read you're feeling better today. You're right, you really have been through so much and the intensity of happenings the last two weeks must have been a bit overwhelming. I hope you manage to take some time out for a while and put yourself first. X

    1. Thank you, Jules. Sometimes, I feel like I am on a roller coaster and I don't like roller coaster rides! But I am doing OK, now. Hope all is well with you, too.

  9. Wooohooo, delighted you have the convenience of hot water once again.

I'm not sure how to proceed with information about hair because it's an individual combination of factors like age, chemo residual, climate and more. I don't want to turn you off! [I'm very protective of my hair as all these new super drugs + age does mean things].

Our medical systems are so different, the emphasis and support for patient go in different directions. The Cancer Clinic's pink ribbon support organization has wonderful referral, somewhat like GON opportunities to discuss issues

If you have a regular hair dresser, she'll be more direct. I'd look at highly rated on-line, like Mayo clinic, Talk to knowledgeable staff at Sally's [or similar that specializes in product] for serum for warm weather having had chemo as we want healthy hair as we age.

    1. Thanks, Hon. I don't have a hair dresser - I think the last time I went to a hair dresser was about 15 years ago, when my cousin persuaded me to go to her hair dresser to get my hair trimmed! My hair has grown out without any special treatment, so far; hopefully, it will continue to grow without any problem.
