Root Canal on Thursday

Today, I had a root canal done and made a complete fool of myself crying at the dentist's after it was over!  I don't even know why I cried.  I have had root canals done, before, and this one didn't hurt all that much, either.  But, there I was, crying!  I think it was because the dentist said that the root canal will preserve the tooth for another 20 years and I wondered if I'd be alive that long.  I have a follow-up appointment in two weeks to complete the root canal.  Hopefully, I'll be a little more composed at that appointment!

Anyway, the dentist prescribed an antibiotic and pain medication (prescription strength ibuprofen), so I went directly to the pharmacy to get them filled.  Wonder of wonders, they filled them after only a short wait, without any drama!  I was told it would be a 30 minute wait.  I sat in a chair just outside the door the employees use to go into the pharmacy area (same area where I sat that previous occasion when the 30 minutes wait stretched to a couple of hours!).  One of the pharmacy workers who was returning from her break saw me waiting there and  asked if I was waiting for a prescription.  I said, "Yes" and that it was a new prescription (in case she thought it was a refill and went to look for it in the refills area).  About 5 minutes later, she opened the door and told me the prescription was ready!    I had barely opened the magazine I had taken off the shelves to look through while I waited!

I had just come home when my half-sister called with the news that the younger of our two surviving brothers had suffered a stroke.  He's in hospital, recovering, but they don't know the extent of damage.  I will be calling his wife, tomorrow, to get an update.

One never knows what each day holds, or what's in store for us, tomorrow, does one?

Today, I am grateful for:
- Time off from work to attend to my various medical appointments
- Getting the much neglected dental work done
- My half-brother is recovering from the stroke
- Phone calls from aunt and cousin, emails from friends
- Being alive

How was your Thursday?  What are your plans for Friday?

  1. Best wishes to recovery for your brother, Bless. Does he and his family live near you or are they still in Sri Lanka?

  2. You have been under a lot of stress for so long, it needs an outlet. And crying is good for that wherever it may be.

    1. Thank you, Live and Learn. Yes, I suppose it was that. Or, perhaps the price I had to pay, because my insurance didn't cover the whole procedure! :D

    1. Oh, Anne, I am going to have to borrow your friend's saying! Actually, every morning, I do say a prayer of gratitude at the altar for keeping me safe through the night and enabling me to wake up in the morning! :)

  4. Bless, I so understand the out break of crying at the dentist office. When we have pent up frustrations/worries/ etc... Then, the sound of any type of kindness makes the emotions overflow.. Proud your ok.. and understand your concerns.. Hugs and prayers my friend.

    1. Thank you, Judy. They were very kind at the dentist's office - the receptionist led me to a chair and offered me a glass of water, etc. I think it was a combination of relief and just feeling overwhelmed, I guess. :)

  6. Ha, I agree that the thought of the bill for a root canal might be enough to set one off crying! Glad they looked after you well, and that you got that treatment done with. What a change to get a prescription filled so quickly.

I pray that your brother will make a good recovery.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. I spoke with my sister-in-law today; they still don't know the extent of the damage, but I told her I'm keeping them both in my prayers. Yes, I was glad to get the prescription without any drama, as the anesthesia was wearing off and I wanted to take the ibuprofen before the pain became too bad.

  7. I'm sorry to hear about your brother -- I hope that his injuries are minimal.

I don't think you made a fool of yourself! But I do know how an emotional outburst that catches you off guard can be unsettling. As others have mentioned -- you have had so much stress, lately! I'm glad there were kind people to help you when that happened.

Also I'm glad the pharmacy had their act together today!

    1. Thank you, Laura. I felt rather embarrassed for crying, but I guess it was a stress release. Yes, it was wonderful to have the pharmacy fill the prescription without a fuss! Almost unheard of, isn't it?

  8. I do hope your brother will be OK Bless.
And I hope you're alright now following your trip to the dentist. I imagine it was an outpouring of your recent stress and worry on top of the actual treatment.
Much love. You are always in my thoughts. X

  10. If you're anything like me the crying was just a release after being so wound up and anxious. I'm glad it went well. I hate the dentist!

    1. Thanks, Sharon. I'm OK with dentists (my step-father was one!), but the root canal was the last straw, I suppose. Hope you are having a wonderful time.
