Tuesday: Mammogram Appointment and Tomato Harvest

I should have known that taking a 4-hour nap, yesterday afternoon, was not conducive to falling asleep at a decent hour at night!  I didn't fall asleep till after 2:00 a.m., last night and even then, I kept waking every so often.  But I couldn't sleep in because I had an early morning meeting at the office that I had to attend.  So, when the alarm went off at 6:30 a.m., I got up, had a cup of tea, showered and dressed, took the lunch I had packed the night before, and left the house a little after 7:00 a.m..  I was in the office by 8:00 a.m., in good time for the morning meeting, which was delayed by almost half an hour because the person who called the meeting was delayed!  But, the meeting wasn't delayed due to me being late, so I was happy.

There were actually two meetings, in the morning, one after the other!  So the morning went by very quickly.

There was an event at the office, so lunch was provided!  Even though I had taken a packed lunch to work, I decided to eat the lunch that the office provided, and brought home the lunch I had packed, and had it for my dinner, instead.

When I came home, there was a message from the oncologist's office saying that my mammogram has been scheduled for Thursday afternoon!  That is quick!  I already have an appointment with the radiation oncologist earlier in the afternoon, on Thursday; the mammogram is scheduled for a couple of hours after that earlier appointment.  It's convenient as the hospital is adjoining the clinic.   Things are moving quickly!

Tomatoes on the Vine
My poor tomato plant is all but dead, but there are a few tomatoes on it, including a few that were ripe!

Ripe Tomatoes

This evening, I picked the ones that were ripe.  They are not very big, but, I am happy to have them:

My Tomato Harvest!

There are about 5 or 6 green tomatoes still on the vine.  I'll give them a few more days to see if they'll ripen.

I brought in the trash cans, spoke with my aunt and cousin and a friend who called, video chatted with my daughter, and washed the dishes.

I don't know where the rest of the evening went!

Today, I am grateful for:

- Being able to wake up, this morning.
- Getting to the office on time.
- Free lunch at the office.
- Mammogram has been scheduled.
- My tomato harvest!

How was your Tuesday?  What are you grateful for, today?

  1. Thanks goodness you have your mammogram scheduled for tomorrow. I hope there is no more appointment confusion like has happened in the past.

Not a bad harvest you got from a dead tomato plant. What's your favorite way to eat them?

    1. Yes, I'm glad it was scheduled so quickly. I still haven't received the usual letter of authorization from the insurance company, so I hope there won't be any problems! I will call the clinic this morning to see if I need a paper copy of the authorization and, if so, I can go during my lunch break to collect it. Usually, the hospital requires some type of paperwork...

I know it's practically sacrilegious to say this, but I don't like raw tomatoes! My favorite way to eat tomatoes is as a chutney. But 4 small tomatoes aren't enough as I need at least 1 lb. for chutney. Most probably, I'll use these tomatoes to add to one of my curries.

  2. You can't beat free lunch at work and glad you were not the one holding up the meeting.

Happy news about the mammogram scheduled quickly and without fuss.

Congratulations on your tomatoes. I would be happy with those. Our plants are and have been dismal this year.

Grateful for our A/C which is very old still working, son coming home for a visit in August and a good variety of food to eat.

  3. You must have tiny hands because those tomatoes look huge to me! That might be because I only plant grape tomatoes these days so I have a chance to harvest them before they split or get rot, somehow.

I also hope everything goes smoothly with your mammogram tomorrow, from the paperwork to the results. And yay for free food at work!

I'm grateful that I have enough food in the house so I don't HAVE to go shopping today because I really don't feel like going. Also that Greg and Youngest Son will be home tomorrow night, a day ahead of schedule!

    1. He, he, I don't know if I have tiny hands or not, but the largest of the tomatoes is about two inches in diameter!

Thank you; I, too, hope the mammogram goes smoothly.

Good list of things for which to be grateful! I'm sure you'll be happy to have Greg and Youngest Son home a day early. Hope they have a safe drive home.

  4. I hope all goes well with your two appointments tomorrow. It is good that you have the mammogram lined up so soon, as waiting is not fun when you have symptoms that you hope to have a good prognosis about.
I'm sure those small tomatoes are delicious raw, but will cook nicely. I just chopped a store bought tomato, a piece of red pepper and a mushroom for supper and sauteed them in olive oil with some oregano and basil and added a spoonful of frozen tomato paste, and ate the resulting sauce with some thawed and heated leftover pasta. (DH was away so just me to feed). It turned out well and was quick and easy.
I picked some wild blueberries on the front yard by the road until it started to rain, but I got enough for dessert and only two mosquito bites!

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. I'm very happy that the procedure was scheduled so quickly. The sooner I know, the sooner I can plan how best to deal with the results.

Yum, your tomato sauce reminds me of the time I made fresh pasta sauce from an earlier crop of homegrown tomatoes. My daughter loved it because it tasted so fresh (she doesn't like the jarred or canned pasta sauce I normally use).

Yay for picking enough wild blueberries for a dessert and only two mosquito bites! Have you tried any of the natural, homemade mosquito repellents using essential oils?

  5. I hope things go well at your appointments. I'll be thinking of you!

I actually have tomatoes on my plants this year. I kept them in pots and put them on deck and so far the deer haven't ventured that close. I won't get to taste any as I will be in England when the tomatoes finally ripen!

    1. Thank you, Sharon. Glad you have tomatoes on your plants, but too bad you won't be there to taste them! Maybe your husband can pick and freeze some of them for you?

Enjoy your trip to England. I hope you have a lovely visit with your Mum.

  6. How wonderful to know that your plants produced the beautiful tomatoes ... even if small. I thought of you at dinnertime this evening ... hubby was in the city and brought dinner home for us from a South African restaurant we enjoy. I had chicken curry and there was s side serving of tomato chutney. Had never tasted it and now I understand why you like it so much. It's wonderful!

Keeping you in prayer and positive thoughts for a favorable outcome from your tests. (((Hugs)))
