Recovering on Friday

I felt very sleepy last night, so, as soon as I had taken my last antibiotics dose for the day at 12:30 a.m., I went to bed and slept quite well.  I woke up once around 6:00 a.m., this morning, but I went back to sleep and slept till the alarm went off at 8:00 a.m.  I lay in bed for a bit, rinsed my mouth with warm salt water, and took my first dose of antibiotics at 8:30 a.m. along with a dose of Tylenol as I was experiencing some discomfort.  I look a bit like a chipmunk, because my right cheek is swollen.  But the swelling will go down in the next day or so, I am sure.  The bleeding continued till later in the morning, but it stopped in the afternoon.

I had a meal replacement drink for brunch.  I had some cream of chicken soup (from a can) for dinner.

This morning, I unpicked the puckered bias bindings on my new blouse and resewed them.  It came out better, this time:

New Blouse

Doesn't look like much when it is hung up, does it?  Didn't help that the ceiling fan was causing it to flutter while I was trying to photograph it, either.  Can you see the band I attached at the bottom of the front?  Not too noticeable because of the pattern of the fabric, I think.

Worn With Matching Skirt

It looks better when worn with the matching skirt, I think, with the blouse tucked into the skirt.  (It doesn't look good when worn untucked.)  I think I need to buy or make a blue belt.

That is one more unfinished project completed and one less piece of fabric left in the stash!   This is all that is left of the fabric:

Leftover Fabric

It is a piece approximately 3 inches by 22 inches:

Not Much Left!
Had it been cotton or a cotton blend, I might have been able to use it for my patchwork.  Since it is synthetic, I will probably just toss it.

Some of you might recognize the skirt from a previous post when I tried out different combinations for it:

The Combination I Picked to Wear

Now I can wear the matching skirt and blouse together with perhaps the navy cardigan and have another combination.

It was another hot day, today.  108F according to the news.  The house remained relatively cool until about 3:30 or 4:00 p.m.  Then, it heated up and I had to have two fans going - a ceiling fan and a stand fan!  I didn't check how hot it got inside in the afternoon, but it is 10:00 p.m. now and 88F in the family room.  Cooler outside and I have the windows open to try and cool down the house a bit.

My gardener friend set up the window air conditioner up in my bedroom, today.  Ideally, I should have switched it on and cooled the bedroom and stayed there.  But that's boring, as I don't have a TV in my bedroom and the a/c unit blocks half the window and makes the bedroom dark.  So, I sat in the family room and watched a TV program ("Ancient Aliens" on the History Channel) and took a nap on the sofa!

Later in the evening, I watered the front garden and put the sprinklers on at the back garden.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Relatively pain-free recovery
- Tylenol
- Meal replacement drinks
- Finishing another blouse to wear
- Fans (and the room a/c)

Friday's To Do List
- Do the dishes
- Unpick and resew my blouse - DONE
- Have gardener friend set up the window a/c unit - DONE
- Water the garden - DONE
- Water the indoor plants - DONE
- Repot the papaya seedlings in a bigger pot (too hot to plant them outside!)
- Pot up the avocado seedling

Eek!  I didn't do the dishes!  Need to do them tomorrow!  Didn't pot up the seedlings, either!

Saturday's To Do List:
- Do the dishes
- Repot the papaya seedlings in a bigger pot (too hot to plant them outside!)
- Pot up the avocado seedling
- Cut out and sew another blouse?  (I pulled out the piece of fabric!)
- Wash the sofa dust sheets and cushion covers

It is supposed to be another hot day, tomorrow.

How was your Friday?  What are your plans for the weekend?

  1. It's good to read you are recovering well Bless.
The blouse looks lovely and worn with the skirt you would think it was a dress. I wouldnt have recognised the skirt from the previous photographs. It's surprising how different it looks when worn with something else. X

    1. Thank you, Jules. I was going for the dress look, but with the versatility of being able to mix and match, as well.

  2. I love separates because you can do so many things with them. Love the blouse with the skirt!
Glad your mouth is on the mend now.

    1. Thank you, Anne. Separates tend to double and triple ones wardrobe, don't they? Recovery is coming along well, I think. Still a bit sore and swollen, but that is to be expected.

  3. Another lovely top and perfect for the hot weather! Happy to read you now have your window A/C in place. I can't sleep if it is hot. In our very early married years before we had central A/C we had a window unit and it was not in the bedroom. I remember hubby taking the mattress and putting it on the floor where the window unit was and that is where we slept! We usually keep our A/C between 79 and 80 which is not really cool enough for me but hubby is cold if set lower. We have ceiling fans in all the bedrooms, living room/dining room and family room. I admit to also running a box fan directly on me when I sit and watch t.v. As a Brit I have never adjusted to hot weather.

Best wishes for a lovely pain free Saturday.

    1. Thank you, Sandy. Yes, the outfit is cool for the summer and I can wear it with a cardigan to the office or when it is cooler.

79/80 is barely cool, especially if it is hot outside, although I'd be quite happy at those temperatures. I have ceiling fans in the bedrooms and family room and 3 stand fans that get moved around as needed and a table fan on the kitchen counter!

I experienced some pain this morning, but I took another dose of Tylenol and am feeling better, now. Still a bit swollen, though.

Hope you are having a nice, relatively cool weekend.

  4. Your blouse is so pretty -- glad you were able to fix the binding! Do you have any white or navy fabric? You could use that last little scrap to make a sort of patchwork belt/tie; it could even be reversible. I am impressed with all your sewing accomplishments lately.

    1. Thank you, Laura. I like the way you think! Yes I do have white fabric and a length of solid blue a shade darker than the blue in the blouse. And I haven't disposed of the scrap of fabric, either. I think I see a reversible belt in my future! :)

  5. That's a very pretty blouse/skirt combination and so useful to be able to separate them and use with other garments, too. It does make a pretty dress.
I'm in the middle of a bit of frugal renovating of a favourite fleece top belonging to DH. The knit neck and cuffs were in bad shape and I went to a fabric store and managed to buy a length of knit material that I am replacing them with (less than $3 Canadian and it is a huge piece!) The cuffs are done, now I need to start on the neck. Looking at the leftover piece I am wondering what I might make out of it! I may need to replace the bottom knit band as well, though, so maybe I shouldn't get too ambitious.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. Sounds like you are busy with a sewing project, yourself! Good job with replacing the worn out cuffs and neck! If you replace the bottom knit band, then you'll have a good-as-new garment for $3!

    1. Thank you, Judy. This particular blouse gave me a little trouble, but I managed to put it together, eventually.

  7. The blouse and skirt together look lovely. It was definitely worth persevering with the top. A belt would look nice but it looks fine without as well. xx

    1. Thank you, Suzanne. It was fabric my mother had bought (for herself), but I wanted to make use of it. I'm glad I made the top, too, because the skirt by itself looked a little forlorn!
