Friday

I had planned to go for the lab tests in the morning, but I received an email from a colleague and I ended up working from home, all morning.  As a result, I didn't go for my lab tests until early afternoon.  But, according to the technician, it was for the best.  She said the morning had been very busy and I would have had a long wait.

After the lab tests were done, I went to the fabric store and bought the quilt batting.  The pre-cut packaged crib size batting (regular price: $9.99; on sale for 40% off) was more expensive than the batting being sold by the yard (regular price: $5.99; on sale for 40% off), so I bought one yard of the cheaper batting.  It was manufactured by the same company and it was thicker, too.  With tax, it came to $3.93.

I looked around the store a bit, but didn't buy anything else!  I still have too much fabric in my stash.  I am determined not to buy anything unless I need it for a project.

I was hungry when I came home (I had eaten only a banana in the morning).  I cooked a meatball curry using a bag of frozen meatballs and sauted some okra.  I ate it with rice I had cooked earlier, and had a slice of papaya for dessert.

Later in the evening, I sat down to sew my quilt and I got the top finished:

The Quilt Top

Then, I couldn't decide what color I should use for the border.  I considered using the blue, but I was going to use it for the back, as well as the binding, and I wanted something different.  Eventually, I decided to use the rest of the yellow fabric for the border.  There was only about 1 yard of yellow fabric, to begin with; but there was just enough for the borders.

Then, I basted the edges of the top to the quilt batting.

Dancer gives his seal of approval!

All I have to do now is attach the backing and either quilt it a little bit or tie it with some yarn.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Being able to work from home
- Friendly staff at the lab
- Quilt batting being on sale
- Not breaking my fabric diet!
- A long phone chat with my aunt

How was your Friday?  What are your plans for the weekend?

Dancer loving the quilt!

    1. Thanks, Nathalie. I was debating whether to buy a couple more yards of it for the other two quilts that I am working on, but decided I'll buy more when I am done with those quilt tops. I don't want to buy and stash any more.

Dancer was just squirming all over the quilt top and just loving it! My cousin has cats and I believe her daughter does, too, so, hopefully, they won't mind a stray cat fur on the baby's quilt!

  3. What a sweet kitty Dancer is. Expect you enjoy his company. Is he excited when your daughter comes home?

    Quilt is looking wonderful.

I have done a little cleaning this morning but still so hot which makes me not really feel like doing much of anything. I have been watching The Open in Scotland and I would love their weather, rain and wind included. Mad Brit eh!

    1. Thanks, Sandy. He usually pouts a little bit when she comes home, for the first few minutes, to punish her for leaving him and going away. He might just ignore her or go and hide under my bed. But, she ignores his pouting and picks him up and cuddles him and after that, he's always trying to get her to pet him! LOL.

Ha, ha, one of my cousins is in Scotland (her husband is from Scotland) and she loves the weather, there. I can understand you wanting that weather, yourself.

Good idea to get the cleaning done while it is still relatively cool in the morning. Don't try to do too much when it is hot. You can do the deeper cleaning, etc., when it gets cooler.

    1. Thank you, Laura. I based the colors on what was on the patterned fabric and what I had on hand. Have you had time to do any quilts, lately?

  6. Well, I might have guessed that Dancer would get into the act when it was all pieced together. What fun it must be to be a much loved cat and be able to get involved with everything, whether necessary or not!
You did well to miss a busy morning and have your lab tests later.
Today I looked in several stores to see if I could find a cord for DH to hang his sunglasses around his neck when not wearing them. Nothing - until I suddenly thought of the local dollar store, and there I found exactly what I was looking for, plain black and only $1. I could have saved time by going there first, as they have so many useful little items that other stores don't have.
The wild blueberries are doing well around our yard and road front, and DH has been picking them. We eat them with frozen yogurt but I also put some in the freezer and he reminded me this afternoon to pull some more rhubarb rather than let it go to waste, so I stewed that for dessert for a change.

    1. Ha, ha, he's always there, lending a helping paw. He had to test how soft the quilt is, you know. ;)

Glad you were able to find the cord for DH's sunglasses. I should look for something similar for my "reading" glasses, as I seem to require them more and more often!

Mmm, wild blueberries! Blueberry muffins and blueberry pancakes! Love rhubarb, too. I tried growing it here, but didn't have much luck with it. I, too, stew it with a stick of cinnamon (and sugar) and have it with custard or ice cream! :)

    2. I must try cinnamon in the rhubarb for a change. One thing I do is put a little salt in as well as sugar, as I seem to remember reading that it makes it possible to reduce the sugar a little.

    3. Yes, I think the salt cuts down on the acidity. We used to add salt to things like lemonade, sprinkled it on fresh pineapple, etc.
