A Slug on Tuesday

I had a very productive day, yesterday (Monday).  In total contrast, today (Tuesday), I have been a slug!  Practically all I've done today is, bring in the trash cans, water the seedlings, go to the office, attend a training session all afternoon, and make an appointment to see the dentist!

That last little bit, however, took a lot of effort on my part!  You see, I hate going to the dentist and I have postponed going for a long time (I am not willing to admit how long!)   In the meantime, I broke a tooth, a filling came out, my dental insurance changed, and I was assigned a new dentist that is covered by the plan.  I started getting a toothache on Friday and all weekend long, I've been dealing with it, rinsing my mouth with warm salt water, taking Tylenol, and chewing on a clove (clove oil is supposed to help relieve toothaches).  Today, finally, I called the dental insurer to double check if my former dentist was still covered by the plan (he wasn't) and to verify who my new dentist is.  Then, I called the new dentist's office and made the appointment.  The earliest time they had available is Thursday afternoon.  I asked them to let me know if an earlier appointment becomes available, but I doubt it.

Anyway, the long and short of it is, I didn't do anything related to housework after I came home.

Tonight's dinner was a scrambled egg, a potato diced and fried, and my first attempt at making cole slaw, which turned out pretty good, if I say so myself!

Today, I am grateful for:
- a relatively high threshold for pain which lets me tolerate the toothache!
- meeting a few office friends I haven't seen in a long time
- a safe drive to the office and back
- dental insurance
- a sunny and warm day

How was your Tuesday?

  1. The slugs in your area must be busier than in mine because in my book, a full day at the office is enough to qualify for a productive day. A full day at the office with a toothache is remarkable.

    1. Well, you know how it is - I want to be able to do a full day at the office plus all the things I'd do if I had a full day at home, never mind the toothache! LOL.

  2. Ugh, toothaches are the worst. I also hate going to the dentist. I haven't been back in years either although I know that I should. Good luck, Bless, I hope an earlier appointment opens up.

    1. Thanks, Nathalie. My fault for letting it go for so long, but other things seemed to take priority.

  3. Hardly a slug since you did go to work. Sorry about the toothache, really nothing worse in my opinion. Hope you feel comfortable with the new dentist and get all the necessary treatment you need. Once you are an established patient you should be able to get in quickly when something like this happens. The equipment they now use is much improved and you should feel no discomfort.

    1. Thanks, Sandy. I, too, hope that the new dentist will be someone who can help me! I've several extractions and a new cavity and bunch of work that needs to be done! The cost estimate I received for the required treatments has me having palpitations! It seems my dental insurance doesn't cover even 1/10th of it!

  4. Like you, the Dentist is not my favourite place to go, so I will be thinking of you. I spent my Tuesday making a case to reduce my hours at work to three days a week, keeping out of the way of our very nice builders in the hope that they will hurry up and finish ( this is week four of a 10 day job), avoiding the election news and consoling my poor cat who doesn't like the builders. At all.
Hope all goes well and your new dentist is a fine one

    1. That work you are having done seems to be dragging on, but that seems to happen quite a lot when remodeling, etc., doesn't it? I hope you are able to reduce your work to three days a week. Aw, your poor cat! Mine doesn't like people coming to do work in the house, either.

  5. It is fine to be a slug somedays. I think those are the days our bodies are telling us we need to slow down.

    1. Thanks, Anne. I'm not sure how much of it is my body telling me to slow down and how much of it is sheer laziness, but, I'll go with the body telling me to slow down! LOL.

  6. Good luck with the dentist! I have a dentist phobia too. I didn't go for a LONG time (I won't admit to how long either lol). I finally ended up having to go. I found a dentist who specialises in treating people who are afraid of going. They are really great! It's an all-female staff and they are really considerate. I do have to take something to relax me before I go though (it's that bad!). I still go to them even though I no longer have dental insurance.

    1. Thanks, Sharon. The new dentist seems OK, but, apparently my insurance doesn't cover anything! At least, none of the procedures I need! So, I will need to talk to the dentist about getting only the bare essentials done now and wait until I am able to change my insurance or come up with some sort of plan!

    1. Thanks, Judy. I used to have a really nice dentist, who had been my stepfather's friend, but he retired and I've not had a steady dentist since then.

  8. It still sounds to me like you have done quite a lot. Making a dentist appointment takes a lot of doing for me too and I do hope you're feeling pain free before much longer. X

    1. Thanks, Jules. I'm on antibiotics now to reduce the inflammation; hopefully, once it goes into effect, the pain will go away!

  9. I hope you did well with your appointment today. Toothache is no fun. I was only at the dentist two days ago for a cleaning. I was amused because they now have a coffee machine where you can have an individual coffee free. However, I think that when we are about to go in to have dental treatment, we have already cleaned and flossed and tried to be respectable, so we wouldn't want to drink coffee at that point. Afterwards, we either have sparkling clean and polished teeth or a face so numb that we couldn't drink without spilling all over our chins, so again, coffee doesn't seem appropriate. So I think the coffee must be for the staff and for the kind people who drive/accompany other people to their appointments!

    1. Sounds like a very posh dental office, Bushlady! Most places here don't have even water for the patients. The dentist took a lot of x-rays, told me all of what was wrong with my teeth and what he recommends I do. Unfortunately, my insurance barely covers any of it! So, I am looking at MAJOR expenses, unless I get a different type of insurance and postpone some of it until the new insurance goes into effect, which will be next year! In the meantime, he prescribed some antibiotics to get the inflammation down and I have to get medical clearance from my doctor before anything can be done!

    2. We don't have dental insurance in DH's retirement. So I balk at any suggestion of treatment that I consider unnecessary! We never used to have a coffee machine or water either, so I guess they are spending the profits that we make for them!

    3. I am thinking of maybe getting a second opinion, but, I'd have to pay out of pocket for that...Something else to think about.

  10. Mum is the same as you Bless. She hates the dentist after a bad experience when she was in her teens - several fillings on both sides of her mouth all done at once! Apart from once when she needed a tooth out in her 40's she's never been back. Until last year that is. We found a lovely dentist for her and she's as happy as is possible to go there.

How does your insurance work over the pond? I pay £12.45 every month as a private patient for myself, Amy and Thomas. Amy is covered until she is 18 then has to pay. Any treatment for the children is free and I get a 20% discount for mine. Included in the monthly fee is 2 annual check ups, 2 scale and polish and a set of x-rays every year.

Hope everything goes well at your appointment. The older I get the more I hate appointments of any kind :( xx

    1. Well, apparently, I have the wrong insurance for the type of treatments I will be requiring, because hardly anything is covered! I will be paying for treatment almost as if I have no insurance and it will amount to a pretty penny! I will be talking to the dentist to see if I can have only the most essential services done now and wait on the others until I change my insurance, at the end of this year, to be able to afford the rest of the treatment. I walked out of the dental clinic is a complete state of shock!

Hope your having a good day.

    1. Thanks, Judy. I was without internet from Wednesday afternoon till this afternoon! I am on antibiotics currently for the tooth inflammation and I need a medical clearance from my doctor before the dentist will do anything! I also found out that my dental insurance won't pay for any of it, since I have the wrong type of coverage! Sigh.

  12. I don't like cloves, but I have heard that they are meant to be good for toothache. My (English) grandad used them like this!

    1. My step-father was a dentist and he used clove oil as an analgesic on his patients when we were in Sri Lanka (back in the days when the drill used for dental work was operated by a foot pedal and numbing medications such as Novocain were not available to us).
