Busy Tuesday

Today, I called the clinic, first thing in the morning, to find out about the antibiotic.  The nurse was not in yet, when I called, and the receptionist said the doctor was working at another clinic.  So, I left a message for the nurse to call me back, which she did, when I was not at my desk!  When I called her back, she was with a patient.  Eventually, however, we spoke, and she called the doctor and he prescribed a different antibiotic.  One which I have taken before, for another infection, and I had no allergic reactions to it.  The nurse called it into the pharmacy but the pharmacy texted me to say that they didn't have it in stock and needed to order it.  They will let me know when it is available.  In the meantime, I had to call in another medication refill (it was not on automatic refill for some reason).

After my first call to the clinic, I left the house and went to the office.  My supervisor was pleased to see me because she had brought me another big bag of aeonium cuttings from her garden!  At this rate, I don't know if she has any plants left, but she assures me she does!  LOL.  Anyway, I was happy to receive the cuttings and accepted them with a grateful heart.  I will not say no to free plants!  I have been wanting to make some jam to give her as a thank you gift, but I haven't made any, yet.  Maybe this weekend.

I went to the pharmacy on my way home from work and picked up my refills.  I asked the pharmacist when the new antibiotics might come in and she thought maybe tomorrow.  They will text me when it is ready to be picked up.

After I came home, I had a cup of coffee and then, watered the front garden.  I meant to water the newly planted calendula (some of them were drooping and wilting!) but ended up watering the whole front yard.  Then, I spent some time doing paperwork and looking for my lab work request form!  I had put it in a safe spot and forgotten where I had put it!  As I told one of my friends, I don't know if there is a method to my madness or if there is a madness to my method!  It's one or the other!  Had I been unable to find the lab form, I would have called the clinic tomorrow and asked for a new form and picked it up during my lunch break.  However, I managed to find the form without too much difficulty.  But, I really must sit down and do some filing and organizing, one of these days!

After that, I put away the dried dishes from yesterday and cooked rice and a chicken stir-fry for dinner:

Rice and Stir-fry Dinner

There is enough leftover for tomorrow's lunch and maybe Thursday's lunch, as well.

Later in the evening, I "chatted" on-line with one of my friends.  I wanted to ask her if it was OK to polish the mezuzah that is fixed to my front door post.  It was left in place by the previous owners of this house and I have kept it and read up on it.  Although I am not Jewish, I believe that it is one more layer of protection for this house and those of us who live in it.  I believe the case is brass, but, over the years, it has oxidized and turned black.   It bothered me that it has been left to tarnish.  Since Passover began at sundown, yesterday, I felt it would be a good time to try and clean the mezuzah, a bit.  So, today, I polished the mezuzah, very gently, with some brass cleaner.  It looks just a little bit better:

Mezuzah on the Doorpost

I shall continue to clean it, a little at a time.  My friend said to be careful not to damage the parchment with the prayer contained inside the case.

One of my cousins called me this evening to invite me to the April rosary gathering.  Apparently she is hosting it, later this month.  She's Catholic but this is the first time she's hosting the rosary gathering (her mother and her sister have hosted it for many years).  Cousin is after recent surgery, herself, so it will be a pot-luck dinner.  I asked her what she'd like me to bring and she said to bring a dessert, if I can.  That should be easy enough.

Later still, I video chatted with my daughter.  She is still trying to fight off a cold and sore throat.  I had her check if she had a fever, but she said she didn't.

Today, I am grateful for:

- Dr. prescribed a different antibiotic for me
- More plants from my supervisor
- The mezuzah on my front doorpost and all that it represents

  1. What a nice boss! I'm glad you had your antibiotic changed! (And it would be nice if medical paperwork, etc. went more smoothly!). One of my kids, when young, had an allergic reaction to a sulfa drug (You can get this allergic reaction from any antibiotic, not just sulfa). He had Stevens Johnsons syndrome which got worse and became TENS disease. He was miraculously healed. This basically makes you a burn victim from the allergy. It was awful, but we prayed to St. Faustina and Divine Mercy. That is neat your cousin is doing the rosary. We do it nightly (my family) and we believe in Medjuorje. My grandparents were from Croatia and Medjuorje is near that, an Apparition site. Andrea

    1. Andrea, thank you for telling me about St. Faustina and Divine Mercy, and about Medjuorje. I didn't know about them and have since looked them up. I once borrowed a book about the Catholic saints from the library and read it, but I'm afraid I don't really remember all the saints. Just a handful I know of for one reason or another: St. Anthony, St. Francis, St. Theresa, St. Jude, St. Peregrine, St. Thomas, etc. I am so glad your son was healed; that must have been very scary at the time.

The monthly rosary that my cousin will be hosting this month is said by a group of family and friends who meet once a month to say the rosary. Each one takes a turn to host the gathering. It has been continuing, without a single break, for about 35 years, now, if not more. I have been attending them on a more or less regular basis for the past 25 years. I don't recite the rosary, myself, but appreciate the opportunity for prayer and fellowship.

    2. Hi. Wow, that is impressive....35 years. I used to have a rosary group at my house years ago with my neighbors. Not all were Catholic but they still felt drawn to the rosary. Fellowship with neighbors (and family) is important and you do a good job with both! Andrea

  2. So glad you are having an alternative antibiotic. Like Andrea's son I once had a reaction to Sulfa, fortunately not as severe but I was warned to stay away from it. Now I understand why. I am also familiar with St. Faustina and the Divine Mercy, and prayed the chaplet the other day for a former neighbour who I knew was dying, to ease his suffering. His wake was today and tomorrow we will go to his funeral.

I was very interested in the Mezuzah. It is a beautiful object to have, to remind you of the God who loves all people whatever their faith. It is lovely that you respect it and not only allow it to remain but are caring for it.

We bottled 11 litres of syrup yesterday and discovered some sediment that didn't get picked up by the filter press, but it is harmless, and comes from the tree.

    1. Sounds like you had a busy day, with the syrup bottling, yesterday, Bushlady. Ah, organic maple syrup with fiber! It's bound to be a hit! Next year, you might have to add some sediment on purpose!

  3. It's very interesting to hear about how different people practice their faith. I hope your new antibiotic does the trick.

    1. Thanks, Live and Learn. Yes, how different people practice their faith is interesting, isn't it? I was brought up as a Buddhist, but was exposed to several other religions when growing up. Several of my relatives were/are Christian/Catholics, neighbors and friends were Hindu or Muslim, etc. I believe one can be a good adherent of ones religion and still be respectful of other religions as well.

  4. Glad the doctor changed the Rx - hope it gets you completely healed soon.

How very interesting to have a Mezuzah on your doorpost. So appropriate to clean it. Enjoy the potluck dinner when your cousin hosts the Rosary. You have been attending for a long time. I think people enjoy your company due to how open minded you are and your gentle spirit.

I am still pulling together things for Easter. I think I forgot how much there is to do when you are the hostess and I am not getting any younger! I know it will all come together and be fine but I have a type "A " personality with wanting things to be organized.

    1. Sandy, I am sure it will all all be quite perfect, but I know that the more organized you are and the earlier you prepare, the more relaxed you will be on the actual day. My mother always wanted things done a certain way, and, according to my daughter, so do I! LOL. I make my lists and go from there. I hope the lunch will be just as you'd want it to be.

  5. I don't think I have ever seen a Mezuzah in real life... I shall have to keep an eye open. I would like to see if I can spot the parchment hidden inside.

    1. The one on my doorpost seems to be completely sealed and the parchment inside can't be seen. But, I hope you will be able to see a Mezuzah, one day. According to my friend (who is originally from France), when she decided to put up a Mezuzah on her own apartment door, her father worried that she might be subjected to hostility from her neighbors.

    2. Oh I never thought of that. Good point, but sad.

    3. Yes. Unfortunately, it is something that needs to be kept in mind, especially these days.
