The Last Day of February: Sunshine and a Stubborn Lady!

Tuesday, the last day of February, was a lovely, sunny day, with the afternoon highs in the mid-60s.  It felt warmer because it was so sunny and bright.

I had a bit of a hard time falling asleep, the night before.  It was 4:00 a.m., when I last checked the clock.  I decided that if I didn't fall asleep by 5:00 a.m., I'd get up and have my cup of tea and start my day!  But I must have fallen asleep soon after that.  I woke up once at 8:00 a.m. and decided to sleep a bit longer, waking up again, at 10:00 a.m.

I felt quite well, this morning.  I was still coughing a bit, but I felt that the cough was getting better, too.  I spent a quiet morning and then, got dressed to go to my doctor's appointment.  My appointment was for 1:30 p.m. and I left the house by 12:30 p.m.  Traffic was fairly light until I got close to downtown.  I got to the clinic in good time and there wasn't a long wait.  I had lost another 4 lbs. since my last visit!  My doctor was very pleased with my weight loss, the daily blood pressure and sugar results, etc., and she is going to further lower one blood pressure medication.

Then, she asked me how long I've had my cold and I told her, since last Monday.  I told her I didn't come in earlier because I didn't have a fever and that I felt much better now.  She sort of shook her head at me and said if this is better, then she was afraid what it must have been like, earlier!  She said my lungs sound "horrible"!  She said it is either asthma or pneumonia!

She gave me a breathing treatment and wants me to come back on Friday for another check up.  She said if it is asthma, then the breathing treatment would have cleared the lungs.  If not, I'll need to get a chest X-ray to rule out pneumonia.  Oh, dear!

I don't think it's pneumonia, though.  It can't be when I am feeling so much better now, can it?  I've had pneumonia before, though, on two previous occasions; both times, I had gone to the office and worked, because I didn't feel bad enough to call in sick, until my colleagues insisted I saw the doctor because I was coughing so much!

Anyway, she scolded me in a nice way for not coming in, earlier; told me I was a stubborn lady; and said she'll have to call my daughter on me if it continued!  Ha, ha!  She and my daughter will get on very well.  Daughter calls me a stubborn lady, too!

I was at the clinic until 3:30 p.m.!  It was 4:30 p.m. when I got home and I still hadn't eaten any lunch!  I considered buying something to eat on the way home, but I couldn't decide what, so came home and had one of those meal replacement drinks.

Love how the front flower bed looks.

Earlier, I had thought I'd be able to do some grocery shopping after the doctor's appointment, but I decided not to.  Instead, I went to the pharmacy to collect the cough syrup the doctor had prescribed and decided it was enough shopping.  I was starting to get tired and I thought it was best to go home and rest.  Yes, I'll miss out on the sale on the chicken drumsticks at $.49/lb., but this week's grocery ad has chicken leg quarters on sale for $.59/lb. and the 10 cents difference per pound isn't that much and certainly not worth the risk of getting a relapse because I pushed myself too much.

I went home, brought the trash cans in, picked another orange from the tree, and returned some phone calls, including one from one of my friends.  She said she had made some soup, if I'd like to come over and get some.  I thanked her, but declined the offer since I wanted to just stay home and rest.  Five minutes later, she called back again, saying she and her husband were on their way with some of the soup she had made!  In fact, she brought me a whole dinner: soup, buriyani rice and curries, and some mixed vegetable pickles!  Have I mentioned that I'm blessed with some very good friends?

I had some of the soup with a slice of bread and butter for dinner; everything else is in the fridge.

I watched some TV in the evening, including the President's speech.  My aunt called to ask how the doctor's visit went and I spoke with her for a bit.  Later, I video chatted with my daughter.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Feeling better (even if the doctor is not convinced!)
- Caring medical personnel
- The best friends a stubborn lady could have!
- The sunny day
- Flowers blooming in the front flower bed

  2. It was good that you had to see the doctor, you can't get away with thinking you are better when the stethoscope says otherwise. I hope that you really will get rid of this problem very soon.

I'm glad your friends, neighbours and relatives keep coming along with good food for you, to encourage you to eat. I do understand how it can sometimes be too much bother to cook for yourself on a day when you are tired.

The flowers look wonderful! I'm so glad you have had some rain to inspire them to grow and bloom.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. Yes, I admit it was good that I saw the doctor. I told her I felt silly to come in just because I had a cold, but she told me not to feel that way. So now, I am going to call in the minute I get a sniffle or scratchy throat! The flowers do look lovely, don't they? Spring is here!

    1. Sometimes, we have to be stubborn, don't we? You are heading for the cooler seasons; we are heading for the warmer seasons. :)

  4. Your primary doctor sounds like a very caring person. Prayers that you continue to feel a little better each day.

Your flower beds are really nice. Clearly love the frequent rain.

So pleased to read your dear friend and hubby came over with soup and other food just when you needed it.

    1. Thank you, Sandy. This doctor is relatively new to the clinic and I've known her only since last November, I believe, but she does seem to be very caring. I just hope she continues to be at the clinic for awhile (they seem to have a revolving door when it comes to their medical staff).

I hope you are having a good day and things are going well for you. Take care.

  5. I come from a long line of stubborn people too. It is hard to decide if Dad was more stubborn than Mom or vice versa. Though they were both very stubborn, I prefer the term tenacious when referring to myself.

  6. I'm very stubborn when it comes to going to see a doctor, but you need to remember that your body has gone through a lot and your immune system is still weak, my dear. I hope it's not pneumonia, although I'm not sure asthma would be any better.

Congrats on losing 4 more pounds! You're going to need to take in all those skirts again if you keep on losing weight, hahaha.

Your flower bed is gorgeous! It must be so nice to see all these colors have a long drought :)

    1. Nathalie, I told the doctor that I am going to turn into a hypochondriac! I'll be banging on the clinic doors the minute I think I'm getting anything! LOL.

Yes, I am going to have to put draw-strings on my skirts! I never thought I'd have this particular problem! But it is a good problem to have, isn't it? :)

  7. You sound just like my Mum, she's a stubborn lady as well where doctors are concerned. We daughters have a lot to put up with :) Thankfully after her bad cough Mum seems to have acknowledged the need to nip things in the bud in future. As she said, "it's harder to shake things off the older you get". I really hope you don't have asthma or pneumonia. Fingers crossed you are in tip top condition by the time you get the results.xx

    1. LOL, Suzanne. I just don't want to make a fuss, you know? But yes, your Mum is right; it's harder to shake things off as we get older. I do, actually, have asthma and I take puffs from a daily inhaler for it and there's what they call a rescue inhaler, as well, to be used as needed. I don't think it is pneumonia, but it might be that the asthma was aggravated due to the cold. Anyway, I go for my follow up tomorrow, so, we'll find out.

  8. That top photo is beautiful! As to the curries: I don't suppose by any chance they are still in the fridge? I could pop over tomorrow and collect? (Essential travel is still allowed, don't worry!)

    1. Thank you, Lady Ella. Yes, the front flower bed looked really nice in that photo, didn't it?

Ah, no, I'm sorry, but the curries are just a memory now! However, it won't take me long to make a few curries for you, if you let me know your arrival time! :D
