March Balanced Life/Monthly Goals

Here are my goals for a more balanced life in March.  The basic areas in my life remain the same.  The goal is to achieve something in each area so that I feel each area is being attended to and not neglected.  However, as I still strive to regain my health, I realize that I need to continue to focus more on this particular area of my life than on others.  So, if I am not able to do everything I'd like to do, it is still OK.

Spiritual:  The goal is to live a spiritually meaningful life.

- Continue with daily prayers and gratitude
- Continue to re-read the Dhammapada (a collection of Buddhist verses based on sayings attributed to the Buddha) with the intention of applying the wisdom contained in them to daily life.
- Continue to focus on joy, gratitude, abundance, and blessings

Environment:  The goal is a clean, tidy, uncluttered house and a well-maintained garden.
- Do only what is needed to maintain the house

- Weed and mulch the flower beds

Daughter:  The goal is to continue to have a close relationship with her.
- Celebrate her birthday!

Family:  The goal is to keep in touch with various family members.
- Sister's birthday - make and send card; call and wish
- 2 cousins' birthdays - make and send cards; call and wish

Friends:  The goal is to keep in touch with friends.
- Call and/or email friends on a regular basis

Career:  The goal is to continue to do work which I enjoy (for the most part) and which enables me to support myself.
- Continue to work from home as needed due to health

Finances:  The goal is financial security.
- Continue budgeting and spending mindfully
- Get the taxes done, if possible
Health:  The goal is good health.  This is going to continue to be the focus, this month.
- Attend the appointments with my various doctors - 1 scheduled, so far, in March; no doubt there will be at least one more.
- Continue to monitor blood pressure and sugar levels as requested by primary care
- Continue to focus on a healthier diet (more vegetables!), drinking enough water, exercising regularly, and getting sufficient sleep

Time Management:  The goal is having enough time to do all what I want to do!
-  Organize myself and put routines into place so I have a more regular schedule!

Leisure/Crafts/Hobbies/Me-Time:  The goal is to relax doing something I enjoy doing for the pleasure of it.
- Read a book (or more)
- Make some cards
- Take naps!

    1. Thank you, Nathalie. No, no party for her this year. I'm not well enough for that. We'll probably go out to lunch and in the afternoon, visit the tax accountant! Oh, we know how to celebrate, don't we? :D

  2. I really like how you organize your goals and the give yourself specific tasks to help meet the broader goal.

    1. Thank you, Laura. The specific tasks help to break it all down to more achievable bits, I think.

    1. Thank you, Judy. Yes, health comes first and foremost, doesn't it? Early birthday wishes to your daughter, too! I guess they always stay our babies, no matter how old they become. :) Hope you have a lovely day.

  5. Sounds like a great list! It's a great goal to obtain balance but it's not easy. It seems like you're focusing on the important things - health, friends and family.

I love reading your lists and updates. I really need to focus on setting goals and writing them down. I make lists in my head but tend to get distracted or forget. If I write something down it's so much easier to reach that goal or at least remember to tackle it!

  6. A Balanced Life/Goals is very hard when you are not feeling well. By focusing on your health everything else will fall into place.

I follow your spiritual life with interest. I have never met a practicing Buddhist. Is your gentle spirit as a result? Is there a Buddhist Temple where you live? If this is too personal please ignore my questions.

I wish your daughter a happy birthday and imagine her to be a gentle person like you. Take care.

    1. Hi Sandy, yes, the health segment will be my focus this month. I can't do much in the other areas when I am not feeling well enough to do so.

Well, I don't know about a gentle spirit, but one of the tenets of Buddhism is to live as much as possible without harming another living being. I am not quite successful in that area as I could be; for example, I'm not a vegetarian, but I try not to intentionally hurt or harm anyone.

Yes, there are several Buddhist temples, where I live; some of them are Sri Lankan Buddhist temples (established by monks who are from Sri Lanka), some are Thai or Vietnamese or Japanese Buddhist temples. I tend to attend the Sri Lankan Buddhist temples. I don't mind the questions, at all, Sandy, so feel free to ask. I will try to answer them to the best of my abilities. :)

    3. Not at all. I had just published your comment and was getting ready to respond when daughter borrowed my computer and then we went out to get lunch, etc., so the response got delayed. But I was not offended, at all. :)
