Lazy Saturday

Today was sunny and quite warm.  It would have been a good day to go shopping for that pair of pants I want to buy.  But I didn't feel like going out and about.  To begin with, I don't like clothes shopping on the best of days.  Today, just the thought of getting dressed, driving to the store, trying on pants which always seem more trouble than trying on blouses, seemed overwhelming!  I decided that the pair of pants I was wearing in the pictures I took last week didn't seem too bad.  Yes they are a bit loose and faded, but I could probably get by with wearing them a couple more times to the office.

I probably should have gone grocery shopping, too, but I decided I could manage with what I had on hand.  After all, I am supposed to be eating from what's in the pantry and freezer, this month, anyway.  However, when my gardener friend called me this evening saying he was at the grocery store and could he pick up something for me, I asked him to buy me a small bunch of bananas, which he did.

There was a time, not too long ago, when I would have pushed myself to go and do the shopping I should have done, knowing that I'd be fine once I was out and about.  But that was before I fell.  Today, when I didn't feel like going anywhere, and didn't have to, I stayed home.  It will be different on Monday and Tuesday, when I have to go to medical appointments, and on Wednesday and Thursday, when I have to go to the office.

So, after I made the executive decision to stay home, today, I took it easy.  I read blogs and played on the computer, rested on the sofa in the afternoon (I don't think I napped, but I might have dozed off a bit), read a little, listened to a lot of music (gospel songs were my music of choice, today, although, later, I had to listen to my neighbor's party music as they always celebrate in their back yard and play amplified music!), and even sang a bit.

I wasn't totally unproductive, though.  I did a load of dishes, today, and I cooked another fish curry and more dhal for my dinner.  The fish was from the freezer and the dhal was from the pantry.  I realized that I was out of onions when I went to cook, though.  I usually have some in the freezer, but it looks like I used it all up!  So I cooked the fish and the dhal without any onions!  The fish curry has tomatoes and a yellow chili, which I deseeded so it won't be so hot.  I ate rice, fish curry, dhal, and the last of the leftover sauted zucchini for dinner.

That was the last of the fish I had in the freezer.  It is a type of fish called seer fish in Sri Lanka and is also known as king fish.  I buy the frozen fish steaks from the Sri Lankan store.  I will buy more when I next go to the Sri Lankan store, although I don't know when that will be.

Today, I am grateful for:
- A sunny, warm day.
- My friend bringing me bananas.
- A working dishwasher!
- A well stocked freezer and pantry.
- A restful, relaxed day.

How was your Saturday?  Was it as lazy as mine was or were you more productive?

  1. We all need a low-key day at home then and again. Especially if the alternative is going shopping for new pants. I don't know any woman who likes that.

    1. Thank you, Live and Learn! :D Someone suggested on-line shopping, but I don't know my size anymore and pants are something I feel I really need to try on before I buy them. After I find a pair that will fit me well and I find comfortable, etc., then, I might be able to order more like them on-line.

Hope your weekend is going well and you have a lovely week ahead.

  2. I agree that it is often a pest to go shopping for clothes and have to undress and try things on. It isn't so bad if the new items fit, but sometimes they look good until they are tried on and then they turn out to be a bad fit, perhaps even badly cut. Pants are especially important to be decently cut, although I must admit I am addicted to comfortable baggy ones when I can get away with them!

I regularly have days when I decide that there is nothing so urgent that I need to head out to shop. I am usually tired when that happens so I figure a restful time puttering will be more productive.

I like to sing to some music and also don't enjoy other people's loud music, but we don't have that problem where we live. We have been in a hotel sometimes where there was a major celebration, and the amplification made it hard to endure. I've never understood why music has to be so loud that you can't really hear it, just a noise! We gave up on local dances for the sake of our hearing.

    1. It was easier to shop when I knew my size, but even so, the fit seems to vary even when the size is the same. For a long time, I didn't shop because I had a lot of clothes and I really didn't need any more. Now, I have a valid reason to shop and I just don't have the energy to do so! But it will happen, eventually. I'll manage until then. It's weird how my tops still fit (for the most part).

  3. I never try on clothes in the store. I take a guess and live with the consequences.

I'm glad you had a relaxing day, and not pushing yourself is sometimes a good thing, especially as you are still on that mountain. I think that something did get injured when you fell - your confidence and to be honest (and having seen what father got up to) taking it slowly is probably one of the best ideas you can have. Hugs, prayers and good vibes. x

    1. Maybe I should do as you do and just buy a pair of pants one size down! They'll probably fit better than the pair I am wearing now!

Yes, you are right. I have injured my confidence. I am afraid of fainting and falling again. I remember how it was with my mother (she, too, kept falling the last few years of her life). It didn't help to hear that a member of the extended family triggered a multiple car accident when he blacked out while driving, recently. Now I am afraid to drive! :(

  4. So understandable that you're apprehensive about driving. Perhaps you could order several sizes of pants online and return those that don't fit?

Or perhaps you could shop on your commute home from work ... when you're already out and about and don't have to make a special trip?

Having properly fitting clothes to compliment your new thinner figure may give your spirits a lift too.

    1. Thank you, Carolyn. I almost went shopping today, on my way back from visiting one of my friends, but decided to come home and have lunch instead. And then, I didn't feel like going out again, afterwards. I really, really don't like to shop for clothes! But even the nurse practitioner at the oncologist's clinic was telling me about the psychological benefits of a new wardrobe. Maybe I'll shop tomorrow afternoon, after my visit to the neurologist's office. :)

    2. So glad you'll treat yourself to a few new clothing items. They don't have to be costly ... and I agree with your NP that you will likely be thrilled with your new clothes. You deserve it! :)

  5. I'm glad you had a good day at home. I hate clothes shopping. Bottoms are the worst. They are either too small on the hips or too big on the waist. Luckily I still have enough clothes for a while. Shirts always seem to be too short too! In winter I basically wear whatever keeps me warm as it gets so cold.

    1. Thank you, Sharon. Comfort and warmth are what I am looking for, too, but they have to be suitable for office wear, as well. I am short and dumpy, so finding clothes that fit can be a bit challenging.

  6. Can you go shopping with a friend? Make that a nice outing, perhaps go to lunch or to the Sri Lanka store at the same time? Having someone with you might help with the driving jitters and also the shopping anxiety. Plus she could provide feedback on the fit of the pants.

I think you did just as much as you needed to, Bless. That's not being lazy or unproductive, that's taking care of yourself. There are days when even those of us who love to shop just don't feel like getting dressed and getting out of the house!

I hope you had a good Sunday. Off to read your next post :)

    1. Thank you, Nathalie. Yes, I could ask a friend to go with me. We'll see - if I don't go shopping by myself this week, I will call one of my friends and ask if she'd go with me, next weekend. :)

Yes, I guess I am still taking things easy for the time being. I did have a good Sunday; hope you did, too.

  7. Have you considered skirts or dresses instead of pants? Getting the right size should be easier especially since your top hasn't changed.

    1. I love skirts and dresses, but then, I feel I need to wear them with dressier shoes than the very comfortable pair of black lace ups/walking shoes that I tend to wear with pants! I know some women wear their walking shoes with dresses and skirts, but I don't like to. But I do have a lot of skirts - I need to go through them and see how the waist bands fit. :) This will be a very good time to go through my closet and declutter!

  8. I am glad you had a lazy day. It is good to have one sometimes. I hate shopping so I will invent every excuse under the sun to not have to go!

  9. LOL, Anne, I think that's what I am doing, too! Making excuses not to shop! :D

  10. It would be easier to try on shoes than pants. Plus a nice pair of comfortable shoes worm with a skirt or a dress would make you feel pretty which is important at this stage of the game.

    1. Well, I do have dress shoes, so if push comes to shove, I'll wear them with a skirt to office. Or, maybe my boots. :)

  11. I'm glad you made the choice to stay home and rest my friend. There is wisdom in listening to those small nudgings and inklings. What are some of your favorite Gospel artists to listen to? Years ago I sang in our church's choir and I so miss doing that. :)

    1. Thank you, Debbie; I'm learning to listen to my body, little by little. I'm doing when I can and resting when I can't. I tend to have favorite songs more than favorite singers, but I do like listening to Mahalia Jackson, the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, and Elvis Presley singing gospel. :)
