Wednesday: Medical Check Up and Blood Tests

I had an appointment with the physician assistant, today.  She ran a lot of tests on me.  The EKG, lung capacity, blood oxygen, hemoglobin count, blood glucose levels, etc. were all normal.  My pressure was good, overall, but she also checked my pressure while lying down, sitting up, and standing.  There were some slight changes when I changed my positions; she was a bit concerned about that and told me to get up slowly when I am at home, not jump up right away.  She checked my vision and had me follow the movement of her finger with my eyes, tested my hand-eye coordination, reflexes, etc.  She was a little concerned that I didn't have a knee-jerk reaction on the left knee, so tapped my elbows and shoulders, as well.  She is going to refer me to a neurologist for further tests for that.  She also said that if I hadn't been scheduled for an MRI already, she would have ordered one.  She also ordered more blood tests.  I have a follow-up appointment with her next week to go over the blood test results, etc.

I was at the clinic for almost two hours. It was almost noon when I came home.  I had brunch (some of the rice and curries a friend had brought).  Then, did some office work and called and spoke with my supervisor, as well.  Later in the afternoon, I went to a different lab to do the blood work my oncologist had ordered for my visit on Friday.  After I came home, I had a cup of tea and did more office work.

Dinner was a bowl of soup with four saltine type crackers (but with unsalted tops) and a ripe persimmon for dessert.

Throughout the day, I texted with my daughter and my cousin; in the evening, one of my friends called to check on me and so did one of my aunts.  I also video chatted with daughter and exchanged emails with a friend.  So, lots of family/friends time.

Today I am grateful for:

- A fairly thorough medical check up
- Most of the immediate test results seem normal
- I was fine driving myself to the appointments and back
- Safe drives (saw several accidents on the freeways)
- Concerned family and friends

    1. Thank you, Live and Learn. Hopefully, we can figure out what caused the fainting; if not, at least rule out some possibilities. Hope your day is going well.

  2. The length of your 'to do' lists are looking a lot better Bless :) You certainly were given a thorough going over which is good. Your Doctors seem very on the ball at pushing tests etc through. Praying everything comes back normal for you. xxx

    1. Thank you, Suzanne. Yes, the doctors are really doing all that they can to check things and I am very grateful for that.

I am trying to keep my do to lists to only the very essentials, at this time. I gave myself a bit of a scare with this latest episode! Don't want to overdo and push myself. :)

  5. I agree. The doctors have been very thorough. Hopefully, everything will come back perfectly normal and you will be able to chalk the experience up to dehydration. Notice I didn't say anything about "just" dehydration, because my son was taken to Emergency for dehydration. It is very, very serious. He was also given the neurological exam because the symptoms are similar. At least with a diagnosis of dehydration, you know that the "cure" is pretty simple. This was just the wake-up call you needed to slow things down a bit. Positive thoughts.

  6. The physician assistant was certainly thorough, which is good to hear. She was right to warn you about not getting up too quickly. It's something I am particularly aware of at night, being a senior, and I like to take time to sit on the edge of the bed and get steady before the inevitable trip to the bathroom in the middle of the night!
You have a lot of traveling around so it is good that you manage to get the pharmacy trips and the blood tests fitted in when you did.

    1. Thank you, Bushlady. I am very pleased with the level of medical care I am receiving. I tend to be rather low key about these things, preferring not to make a fuss, etc. So, very grateful that the doctors are being proactive.

  7. Praying all went well with your MRI Thursday and that you were just really dehydrated and that caused the fall. Did they check your sodium levels? My MIL had a similar incident and her sodium levels were way out of whack.

    1. Thank you, Debbie. I'll find out the results of the MRI next week. I don't know if they checked my sodium levels - I know they did a whole bunch of blood tests. I will ask the physician assistant about sodium levels when I see her next week. Thanks for bringing that up.
