The Avocado Seedling Christmas Tree

The Avocado Christmas Tree

I managed to find a picture of my avocado seedling Christmas tree!  I had apparently emailed a picture of it to a friend and retained the email.  :)  The year was 2012!  I guess my daughter was at university, not high school, as I had initially thought.  That's Dancer inspecting the decorations!

Here's what I had said in my email:

"Dancer checks out the Christmas tree, which is my avocado seedling (still in it's jar of water!)  :D  Daughter and I didn't feel like dragging out the fake pre-lit tree and decorating it - too much work, she said - but I still wanted a Christmas tree.  So, I decorated the avocado.  It's live, it's evergreen, it's our Christmas tree!  :D"

Yes, I put my gifts to my daughter under the avocado seedling Christmas tree!

We are having a quiet day, today.  It's grey, drizzly day; a major storm is expected to move in tonight.  I am not complaining, since we need all the rain we can get.  I did office work most of the day; it is all done and sent off before I take some time off, next week.

I received the sad news that my neighbor's husband passed away, today.  I called and left a message of sympathy.  I will need to rethink my gift to her.  I don't think she'll be in the mood to celebrate Christmas under the circumstances.

Today, I am grateful for:
- Each new day.
- The blessing of rain for my parched garden.
- The packages that are arriving, as each one means that someone cared enough to send them.
- The holiday greeting cards I am receiving as they, too, mean someone cared enough to send them.
- Being able to celebrate this holiday season with my daughter.

How was your day?  Hope it was filled with blessings.

    1. Thank you, Angela. The avocado seedling eventually died during the heat of the summer. But it made a nice little Christmas tree for us, that year. :)

Yes, it is going to be a very difficult Christmas for my neighbor and her children.

I hope you have a very happy Christmas, Angela, and celebrate it with family and friends.

  3. I love the avocado seedling as a Christmas tree. Such a sweet idea.
So sorry to hear about your neighbour. Bereavement just seems even more difficult at a time when everyone else seems to be celebrating.
Blessings of the season to you and yours. X

    1. Thank you, Jules.

Yes, it is hard to lose someone so close to the holidays, but I spoke with my neighbor this morning and she seems very composed.

Wish you and your family a happy Christmas and a wonderful New Year.

  4. so sorry to hear about your neighbour's loss. I think this time of year makes those losses harder somehow.

I love the idea of the avocado seedling - did it survive? Or did Dancer have it? x

    1. Yes, losing someone is hard, but especially so during the holidays, I think.

The avocado seedling survived Dancer (he didn't try to eat it), but not the heat wave during the following summer. Should try to grow another one.

I am just having 5 minutes with my favourite blogs before I turn the lights out. I expect we will be up early as usual tomorrow even though there is no FC here any more.

Wishing you and your DD a happy Christmas, hope you have a lovely time Xx
