Sunday's Activities

Flowers from the Garden and a Photo-Bombing Cat!

I had a fairly quiet day, today.   I slept in a bit, then, called my half-sister, since she had called twice and left messages asking how I was.  Put away the laundry, cleaned the other bathroom, washed the dishes, took pictures of the garden and picked some flowers and pine branches to bring in.  Swept the kitchen, too, since some of the pine needles fell on the floor.  The kitchen floor needs mopping, but will do that another day.

It didn't rain, after all, today, although it remained overcast for the most part.  So, later in the evening, I put the sprinklers on and watered the back garden.  The front doesn't need to be watered yet because my gardener did that on Friday.

Later in the evening, one of my cousins called and brought over Christmas gifts from another cousin, who was going to be out of state for Christmas.  Since I haven't put up a Christmas tree, yet, this year, and really don't know if I will (all depends on the state of my health, I guess), I swept the living room fireplace hearth and set the bags of gifts there.  Even if I don't do a lot of decorating, this year, the fireplace will look festive.  I also made my initial gift list; I have managed to keep it to 30!

Today, I scrambled an egg and had that with a slice of toast for my breakfast.  Later, I had a bowl of tomato soup for my lunch.  A cup of tea in the evening, with a handful of pistachio nuts.  Dinner was two pieces of breaded frozen fish fillets, baked, with rice and green peas, followed by the last of the grapes for dessert.

Today, I am grateful for:
- The garden still growing and giving me flowers and fruits to enjoy
- Having an internet connection, again!
- Eating the pine needles didn't make Dancer too sick!
- Gifts from my cousin
- Speaking on the phone with my sister, aunts, cousins, and a neighbor; exchanging emails with a friend; video chatting with my daughter

  1. I'm glad you're having a nice, relaxing day. I felt quite lazy as the snow was still coming down and the roads bad so we didn't go anywhere. Hubby did get out the snowblower - for all the good it did - as more snow came down and everything snow covered. We're supposed to get a break on Monday!

    1. A snowy Sunday is a good day to stay home and relax; sorry it continued to snow even after your husband cleared the paths. Sounds like you are going to have a white Christmas!

    1. Thank you, Jules. Yes, the appointment went well.

I will post pictures of the fireplace once I've done it up. As for the gifts, I used to give upwards of 50 gifts, in years past!

  3. I went to church in the morning. In the afternoon I got into baking mode and made some mincepies with the pastry I made on Saturday, and then I decided to make some kind of a tart for dessert. I have a treasured paperback, "The Archers' Country Cookbook" which is written by the actress who plays Martha Woodward in the series, as if it is Martha writing it from her store. I looked at the recipe for treacle tart but was too lazy to make breadcrumbs, so instead I made another recipe using the same golden syrup (a very English flavour) and dates and a little oatmeal. We had some for dessert with frozen vanilla yogurt and I saved some for today and put the rest in the freezer.

    1. Yum, mincepies and tarts! I love golden syrup - we used to spread it on buttered bread for teatime snacks! I buy the cans of Lyle's Golden Syrup at the Sri Lankan store, even now.

    1. LOL, I love to give gifts! Not big, expensive gifts, but smaller, token gifts that are mostly homemade. This year, however, I haven't made any of my usual jams, so, I shall have to see what else I can do.

  6. I love a decorated mantel. I think long after I stop putting up a tree at Christmas, I will still make the effort to put some lights and garland on top of the fireplace. We don't have a real fireplace. It's electric, but I love the look and feel of it.

    1. A decorated fireplace is a lovely thing, I think. I've never lit a fire in my fireplace, but I love how it looks. :)

    1. Thank you! I wanted something that said "winter" but, not necessarily "Christmas".
