2016 Holiday Gift List

2016 Gift List

I have made my holiday gift list and checked it twice.  Most years, I set myself a budget and keep to it by making most of my gifts - jars of jam, table runners, placemats, etc.  This year, I didn't feel well enough to do so.  Also, so many friends and family members have been so kind and helpful throughout the year that a jar of jam wouldn't have been enough of a gift to give them.  I don't have the stamina to go shopping for everyone on my list and I am not comfortable ordering gifts on the internet.  So, I have decided to give gift cards to several people on my list, this year.  I bought some the other day and today, I bought the rest.  Tomorrow, I will wrap the few gifts I did make or buy and check the list again to make sure I have something for everyone on my list!

Today, one of my cousins called to invite us to her house for Christmas!  She apologized for the last minute invitation, but said she hadn't been planning to do anything (her mother and sister and sister's family have all gone out of state to celebrate Christmas with her sister's first grandson who was born last month), but decided to host Christmas dinner at her house, after all.  I told her I had already accepted another invitation, but promised to step in and visit her, as well.  So, Christmas day will be spent with family as well as friends, after all.

Today, I am grateful for:
- The shower of rain we had last night.
- My daughter had a safe flight home.
- My cousin has invited us to celebrate Christmas with her.
- Another cousin visited me, earlier in the day.
- My holiday shopping is done!

Have you made or bought all your holiday gifts?  Or are you a last minute shopper like me?

  1. Your list looks nearly as long as Santa's! I think gift cards are perfect and I'm glad you're still looking after yourself and accepting your limitations for the time being :)

There's no better way to spend Christmas than with family and friends and to do both is a double bonus.

I've had a quick look for silk baubles as the ones you showed on your last post are beautiful and I remember us having them when I was little. The only ones I can see are on Ebay as they are considered retro from the 60's/70's. They're definitely not retro prices though! I wonder if they will ever come back into fashion. I hope so. xx

  2. Ha, ha. Most years, my gift list has between 50-55 people on it! Last year and this year, I was able to cut it down to a more reasonable 30 (partly because I am not at the office and won't be giving to my colleagues, although I might change my mind in the New Year, when I plan to return to the office!) One year, I had 98 people on my list, because I gave to all of daughter's classmates, teachers and staff at her school, etc.

Yes, my silk baubles are from the late 1970s! Never thought of them being "retro"! :)

I wish you and your family a very happy Christmas, Suzanne, and all the best for the New Year.

  3. So nice to have two outings on Christmas Day! We make and buy gifts. Made the inspiration jars and the Lego tray. So much fun to make gifts! Glad your daughter had a safe flight. :)

    1. I loved both items you made, Carolyn. I enjoy making gifts so I am a bit disappointed I didn't get around to making more. Hopefully, next year. :)

Happy Christmas, Carolyn and may the New Year be a good one.

  4. It's great to have such caring family and friends. Glad your daughter made it back safely. I think I am done. I thought that yesterday but daughter let me know that MIL had invited someone else to the celebration - a person none of us know!

  5. Your handwriting is lovely!

I love buying gifts but in these days of so much 'stuff' and so much clutter sometimes I think the most thoughtful gift is to give a gift card/money. For the younger ones, sometimes you are giving the gift of a shopping expedition! Mind you, I would bet real money that the gifts you give are just right. x

    1. Thank you, Lyssa! My teachers were never satisfied with my handwriting! :D

My daughter assures me that the gift cards will be much appreciated as it allows the recipients to choose what they want.

  6. That is a long list and I can't believe that you had 98 on your list one year. BTW, you have lovely handwriting.

You are a very thoughtful person, so I bet each gift you give will be just right.

    1. Thank you, Live and Learn. I enjoy the whole process of giving gifts and I am happy to see that it seems to have rubbed off on my daughter, as well. :)
