Monday

Monday was another sunny and warm day, with a high of 88F.  I love the fact that we are having such a lovely, warm autumn.  The weather is supposed to change, later in the week, but I am enjoying the warm weather while I can.

I had a relatively quiet day.  I did office work and met with my financial planner.  Later in the evening, I emptied the waste baskets and took the trash cans to the curb for trash pick up in the morning.

I received a phone call from the clinic in the afternoon, telling me that my primary care physician is no longer available and my appointment with her, scheduled for tomorrow afternoon, needed to be rescheduled with another doctor.  I was not happy to hear that, but this is not the first time I've had to change doctors.  My appointment, with a new doctor, is now scheduled for next week.

I had a phone call from one of my cousins, as well.  Her daughter's baby was born prematurely, but both mother and baby are doing well, although the baby hasn't been able to go home, yet.  My cousin also told me that she and her husband had been in a car accident, last week.  Fortunately, no one was hurt, although the car was badly damaged and the airbags never deployed!

But later in the day, I received news that one of my second cousins, who was my age, perhaps a few months older, died of cancer, on Friday.  Her older sister, who sent me birthday greetings, said she didn't want to tell me on the day because it was my birthday.

I also found out that a friend of mine suffered a major stroke while visiting her younger daughter and baby granddaughter, who live in another state; her older daughter, who is a nurse, has flown out to be with her.  I spoke with my friend's niece and she said she'll keep me informed.  At her request, I called another mutual friend to give her the news.

I have felt sad since I heard the news of my cousin's death and my friend's stroke.  Life is so fragile, isn't it?

I am grateful for:
- The sunny, warm days.
- I was able to get another appointment with a different doctor.
- No one was injured in my cousin's car accident.
- My cousin's daughter and grandson are doing well.
- My friend is receiving excellent medical care.

  1. That seems like an avalanche of tough news! I know that the baby is good news, but so worrying that the poor little one isn't home yet. I hope you get a new doctor sorted out soon! Sending hugs and good vibes.x

    1. Thanks for the hugs and good vibes. They are much appreciated. Yes, a lot of tough news at once! Reminds me of Shakespeare's quote: "When sorrows come, they come not single spies but in battalions" (Hamlet).

    2. I quote that a lot! (did Hamlet at school, it rocks!). The 'slings and arrows of outrageous fortune' don't come in small doses. But you have managed the mountain. Sending more hugs and good vibes x

    3. Thank you. I did Hamlet, too, and so did my daughter. She had to write a poem as part of her project; maybe I will do a post about it. She also took part in a school play called "Meanwhile in Elsinore", which is Hamlet from the perspective of the female characters in the play.

    4. Oops! The play is called "Elsewhere in Elsinore", not Meanwhile in Elsinore! LOL.

  3. We've had a lovely autumn this year in the UK although not as warm as yours.

Hope the transition to your new physician goes smoothly. I don't know if it's a sign of age but I like continuity these days especially where my health is concerned.

So sorry to hear about your cousin and your friend. Life is very precious indeed and things can turn so quickly. It was good news that nobody was hurt in the car crash and that the baby, although premature, has arrived safely and is doing well. All we can do is embrace the positives. Unfortunately, the rest is out of our hands. Hugs to you. xx

    1. Glad to hear you've had a lovely autumn. Hope your winter will be equally pleasant. Do you get a lot of snow where you live?

I, too, like continuity when it comes to health care. One tends to develop a relationship with ones doctors over time. But change can be good, too, so, hopefully, the new doctor and I will have an equally good relationship.

Yes, embrace the positives and count our blessings. That's what I try to do.

Hope you are having a lovely week, Suzanne. Take care.

  4. I agree, life is so fragile.. We must appreciate the days we have and enjoy our friends and family. My DIL's mom died this past July.. sudden heart attack..It was just devastating to them.. She was only 63 yrs old. And seemed to be in good health. It makes you think...
Sorry about having to get a new doctor ..I really hate when this happens, learning about them and them learning about you.. Hope you will get a really nice one.
    Hope you feel better soon..Hugs.

    1. Yes, one never knows what the future holds; all we have is the present. I try to appreciate each day. I always give thanks each morning for waking up, well and alive. No matter what the day holds and how it turns out to be, I give thanks each night, for the day's blessings and for being alive and well. :)
