Productive Thursday

I've had a productive day, today.

I went for a blood test in the morning.  The technician told me that I looked much better than before.  She recalled the times I'd gone in for blood tests when I didn't feel so good.  She said she'd ask me how I was and I'd always say I was fine, but she could tell that I wasn't feeling all that well.

Afterwards, I put gas to the car and filled the tank.  I usually try to keep the tank at least half full, so that if there is some kind of emergency and the power goes out, I have enough gas to get me through that period,.  However, since I don't drive as much currently, I had allowed it to go down to quarter tank.  But, a recent swarm of small earthquakes along the San Andreas fault let to a period of an elevated risk of a magnitude 7 or greater earthquake occurring being declared.  That period of an elevated risk of a major earthquake happening ended on Tuesday morning without any such earthquake (although a new earthquake fault was discovered!)  But it was a good reminder for me to keep my gas tank filled.

Next, I went to the bank.  Then, I went shopping.  There is a dollar store near the bank and they had the autumn leaf patterned paper plates I wanted, but the plates were rather small.  Too small to use for dinner.  Instead, I decided to buy plain white paper plates, which were a bit bigger (10.25 inch diameter).  I am not very happy with them and might still decide to use the glass plates, instead (my mother bought them especially for use at the first prayer gathering dinner I hosted).  The paper plates can be kept for use during the almsgiving and to plate up leftovers for everyone to take home.   I also bought a few other items, including two new fall themed kitchen towels.

After I came home, I did office work until 8:30 p.m.  Later, I video chatted with my daughter and spoke on the phone with one of my cousins.

Today, I am grateful for:
- the blood test went well
- a full tank of gas
- the availability of gas at a relatively reasonable price ($2.59/gal.)
- getting the paper goods for the prayer meeting dinner
- getting my office work done

Tomorrow, I have a follow-up appointment with my oncologist.  Later in the evening, I will attend a viewing, as a friend's mother passed away earlier in the week.  In between, I have to do some office work.

How was your Thursday?  What have you planned for Friday?

  1. I read about the new fault having been discovered and the heightened earthquake risk. I hope you're OK!

You did a lot on Thursday, it must feel nice to be able to run errands again :)

Can you order the plates you would like online?

My plans for today (Friday) are to withstand whatever Hurricane Matthew is going to bring us. It is now almost 5 a.m. in Florida and it is just a few miles away from Cape Carnaveral. Even though it weakened a bit and moved about 10 miles to the East, it is still a very dangerous hurricane, especially for those on the East Coast. We're just starting to get the first wind gusts here in South Lake County. We're far enough inland that we hope that we'll "just" get tropical storm-strength winds and rain. My family is still asleep. The worst of the weather should hit us in about an hour and last through 9 a.m., according to TV reports.

As much as I'm not enjoying this, I realize that earthquakes would be worse (for me) as you can't just watch a forecast on TV and get a estimate of how long they will last and when they'll be gone for good.

Make sure your earthquake emergency kit is ready, especially with your medications, Bless. Take care.

  3. Oh my, you had a full day. The doctor's appointment, banking and shopping probably would have had me done in. But you continued to work until 8:30 in the evening doing office work? I hope you found time to take a nap in between.

It's too bad you didn't find the paper plates you wanted. They make them so thin now; but I find that if you double them up, they're not too bad. On the other hand, I really do love the idea of eating from the glass plates. Ha...but I'm not washing them.

    1. The good thing about working from home is, I can keep my medical appointments and run some errands during the day without taking sick time or vacation time off. The bad thing about working from home is, I still have to do my work and put in sufficient hours to show I put in a full day.

I will make the final decision about which plates to use on the day of the prayer gathering. If I feel tired, I'll use the paper plates. If not, I'll go with the glass plates. :)

  4. Hi Bless. I'm sorry I have been so out of touch lately. I think about you all the time and I'm glad to hear you are doing so well. :)
I know what you mean about the reminder to keep yourself prepared for emergency situations. While keeping my mind on the hurricane in Florida right now I have found myself tallying up our house supplies and what we should have on hand in case we experience a bad winter here in WI.
I'm sorry to hear of the passing of your friend's mother. I will keep her family in my prayers.
I hope your oncologist appointment goes well. You are always in my prayers too, my friend! (Hugs!) XOXO
ps- my grandmother asks about you all the time and sends her regards to you and your daughter. :)

  5. What a lovely thing to be told you look well and also that the technician was as observant as she when you went for your blood tests.

Always having enough petrol in the car is one of our priorities. Mark never lets his go under half and mine under a quarter. It never fails to amaze me how many people are prepared to run around on empty, my SIL being a massive culprit of this. An emergency doesn't have to be as major as an earthquake either. I always think what if her children needed running to hospital with an injury that didn't warrant calling an ambulance out but required rapid transport. The last think you'd want to be doing is faffing around filling up with petrol or calling a taxi and hanging around waiting for it to turn up.

I hate buying things that I know aren't quite right so I hope you manage to find some plates that you are happy with, although using the glass ones sounds fine, apart from the washing up of course:)

We have Sienna staying over tonight (Friday). I've purchased a travel cot today as she is too big to sleep in her pram. I think the only things I'm short of now are a highchair and pushchair! Hope you have a lovely weekend. xx

    1. I agree, one doesn't want to have to think about stopping to put gas to the car when there is a medical emergency!

Sounds like little Sienna is fast becoming a regular member of the household! Having duplicate items at Grandma's house is a good idea. Hope you have a fun weekend with her.
