Climbing Resumed and Grocery Shopping Update

I went for my radiation treatment, this morning.  The nurse looked things over and said it was okay to resume treatments, but I am to continue applying the ointment that was prescribed, twice a day.

On the way home, I stopped by the grocery store to buy the three cans of condensed milk I wanted.  Each can was priced $1.79; my total came to $5.37.

August grocery shopping spending to date:  $15.65 + $5.37 = $21.02

Amount left in the August grocery budget:  $88.21 - $21.02 =  $67.19

I worked on office work in the afternoon and early evening.  Later, I watered the front garden.

My stomach is better, today.  Not quite well, yet, but better.  I've been doing a modified BRAT diet since Monday (modified because I don't like plain rice by itself) of banana, applesauce and toast.  But today, I had some egg salad, as well.  So, breakfast was a banana; lunch was an egg salad sandwich (made with one slice of bread cut in half); dinner was a half cup serving of applesauce and another egg salad sandwich (again, made with one slice of bread).  Hopefully, my stomach will be fine, tomorrow.

Today, I am grateful for:

- My stomach is better
- My skin has healed enough to resume radiation treatments
- Caring healthcare professionals
- Being able to watch the Olympics on TV
- Video chatting with my daughter

How was your day, today?

  1. I hadn't heard of the BRAT diet, but it sounds wonderful. I shall file it away for next time DH has a bad tummy (he really suffers sometimes). Thank you x

    1. I, too, hadn't heard of it until I came to this country. Back in Sri Lanka, bananas are supposed to be a laxative! :D

  4. You did well with the special on condensed milk, that stuff is expensive and I usually look for specials and then put a can or two away for when I need it. Here's my favourite recipe, for an easy dessert for company:

    Crunchy Lemon Pie.

2 1/2 cups ginger cookie crumbs
    1/3 cup melted butter
    1/2 pint whipping creem
    2 lemons
    300ml can condensed milk

Make base or 10 inch pie crust with butter and cookies.
Mix lemon juice and grated rind with condensed milk. Add lightly whisked cream and pour onto well-chilled base. Chill the pie and if desired, decorate before serving with chocolate dragees or lemon candy slices (or just whipped cream piped around the edge?)

I'm starting to crave some now! :D

    1. That lemon pie sounds delicious! Thank you for sharing the recipe. Do you just mix the cookie crumbs and melted butter and press into place to make the pie crust and chill it or do you have to bake it, first and then chill? I might make this pie when it is my turn to host the prayer meeting.

    2. I don't remember ever baking it. I guess when I wrote on the recipe card I didn't specify. Some crumb crusts do seem to require baking, perhaps those with added sugar. Sorry I can't be specific.

    3. No problem, Bushlady. I can try it without baking the crust and see how that works out. :)
